For all you who collect near or beyond the point of obsession... what would you consider to be the "gem" (or gems) of your collection.

For me it would either have to be my Sega Saturn development system... or my PS2 TEST debugging system.

What about you?

I'm not a game collector, but the gem from my small collection is black-label copy of Final Fantasy VII. Funny thing is I still have yet to play it after buying it 3 years ago. :-/

Haha... if it's still sealed... (and in some cases even if it isn't)... you could probably sell it for a pretty good chunk of change.

Yeah. My copy is open, but a couple years ago even the used ones were going for $70+ on ebay. Although the asking price has gone back down significantly nowadays.

Well, not from an incredibly high collector's value standpoint, but by far my favorite piece is the Zelda Ocarina of Time Collector's Edition complete (the first batch, gold cart/shiny box and all). I never see it in people's collections, and I hardly see it listed on Ebay. Anyone know the average price it's worth?
This is the only "real" entry I see on Ebay of it
I'm actually tempted to grab a second copy, because my version's instructions are worn as is the box to a slight degree on the edges, and the cartridge cover is worn slightly due to sunlight or whatever. Now, factory sealed...this must be worth a lot lot more.

I have plenty of rare games that are worth money. Off the top of my head, Chrono Trigger complete, Megaman X1, X2, X3 complete, Super Metroid factory sealed, Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence Limited Edition (should have kept this sealed and just bought a regular version of MGS3S...)...sorry I would name more retro titles but I am tired now. There's plenty I haven't listed here. Refer to my collection link in sig for more...

Are the gems in your collection what you consider rare? Or valuable?

Radient Silvergun is not rare, if you have the cash you can aquire it no problem, same with alot of 'rare' games. I wanna hear about some real rare shit

Very interesting, but of course 70% of these are unrealistic to obtain from a collector's standpoint

My gems would probably be, Suikoden I and II, Panzer Dragoon Saga, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time gold cart edition, my Metal Gear Solid 4 PAL Limited Edition with Snake figure (it's selling for upwards of 100 pound on eBay already!) and finally my Final Fantasy VII Ultimate Guide which seems to be highly sought after and goes for quite a bit on eBay for some reason.

These are only some of the things I own that I can think of off the top of my head right now. :P

I don't really having anything that rare, but I suppose it might be my Metroid Prime 2 Demo disc. I got it in an issue of Nintendo Power, never seen one on Ebay.

But in terms of the most important thing to me, probably either Space Station Silicon Valley for N64, or Taiko No Tatsujin DS. Silicon Valley because I consider it the most obscure game in my collection, and it's nostalgic for me, and Taiko because it's my first and currently only imported game.

The "gem" of your collection would be what YOU consider the best thing, not necessarily what will sell for the most or what is the hardest thing to find (although it may be).

My "Gem" is sadly just a old Snes with Super Mario World... Its not much, but it is the one piece of gaming memorabilia I would grab incase of fire.
You know you are a gamer when,
- Everytime you need to take a pill, you can't help saying, "Waka, Waka, Waka"
- Whenever someone complained about a blister, you show them the scar you got from the rafting minigame in Mario Party 1.
- You have watched 24 "Let's Plays" and are damn proud of it.

I'm also not a big game collector, but because of Pete and other users like the Happyconsolegamer, have inspired me more to pick up some old favourites whenever I come across the cash. Lately I've just been collecting GBA games.

I guess my gems would be Lunar 2 Eternal Blue the complete set
FFVII black label.

Many might not consider this a gem, or worth a mention, but I do since it's a gem to me. A pink gameboy Micro.

lol!

Oh man, that's rough, I would get severely pissed off. It's so tiny that I could see why it would be so easy to just fall into a space where you can't get it back from.

It took me a while to get my pink version, so I'm going to be extra careful with it.

I feel the same way my gem is my old Amiga 500 along with collection of Bitmap Brother games (they are seriously good, if you've never heard of the Amiga or the Bitmap Brothers you would be doing yourself a four to check them out)
people say video games are bad for you, they also say rock n roll is bad for you ...... people sure do say stupid things
speaking of rock n roll and video games check out my youtube channel where you will find very little of either but a lot of award wining comedy http://www.youtube.com/welcometomydomain

Sonic 2 is my gem...I have other games that are far rarer and worth a lot more then Sonic 2 but its my original copy from back in the day...my very first game ever and the game I have the most memories with. So without a doubt my gem is Sonic 2.
