Buy/Sell/Trade board? --- Poll Added

This thought just came to mind, so I decided to post and see what everyone else thinks. A Buy/Sell/Trade board where collectors and non collectors can buy, sell and trade video games. Say for example I have two copies of Donkey Kong Country, and I want to get rid of one. I post on the BST board and ask if anyone is in need of it. Billy Bob says yeah, I need that game, and I'll trade you my extra copy of Mario Kart for it. Billy Bob and I have both been here at the forums for awhile, so everyone knows we're reliable. We each ship the games and PM each other the tracking codes for the packages, our games arrive, and we are happy!

I really think this could be something we could take advantage of. It would be good because maybe I buy a lot of games off of Craigslist, and I wind up with some duplicates. I could sell them on eBay, or I could offer them here first to my fellow forum members and collectors.

this is something I was highly considering adding in, glad you took the time to make the topic for me, lol. If there is interest in this I will add it in, not right away though people definitly need to show interest in this. I am sure people will be hesitant to buy stuff at first, but users could post links to their feedback history on other sites, or just build up a reputable feedback by starting off by buying/selling low cost items. I would add a feedback forum to keep track of member transactions so you know who the good sellers are. I personaly would not use this forum to buy/sell unless it is with a person I really know for personal reasons.

Up to you guys, I think I am going to see if I can edit in a poll for this topic.

this would be sweet, especially for new collectors
You know you are a gamer when,
- Everytime you need to take a pill, you can't help saying, "Waka, Waka, Waka"
- Whenever someone complained about a blister, you show them the scar you got from the rafting minigame in Mario Party 1.
- You have watched 24 "Let's Plays" and are damn proud of it.

Yeah, there could be a new category created under video games, something like "The Marketplace". Under that you could create a "Buy/Sell/Trade" board for people to offer and request stuff, and you could create another board titled "Feedback". After two people complete a transaction, they each create a topic on the Feedback board explaining how their transaction with the other person went. Replies would be disabled on this board because it's not a place for discussion, but a place to post feedback.

If a older, more established member wanted to deal with a newer person that had no reputation, the member with no rep would either send the money or the game first, then the older established member sends their end of the bargain. That way fraud is prevented.

And yes that is basicaly how it would be setup yes. Only thing is replies would be enabled because each user would have their own topic with just their name where other members would go to and reply to it to add their experience in a transaction with others. Of course nobody or myself can have any responsibility to do with anything you choose to buy or sell, so if you happen to deal with someone that never sends you a product, theres really nothing we can do. Best thing is if you feel hesitant to deal, setup a skype call or talk on xbl or psn or something, might help.

I think something like would definitely prosper, and would get better and better just as the community grows. It can be a great little resource besides the obvious Ebay, for rare games and older games, straight from the enthusiasts themselves.

honestly Pete I would avoid. Just encase something did happen were somebody scammed somebody else. This would all come back at you which you don't want on your plate. Ebay is always the safest thing.

Like I said, scamming could very well happen, however if you see a new user with no feedback or credibility selling a PS3 for $300 you would be really foolish (or brave) to buy it from them. Start small...if a person is selling mario bros 3 for $5 and you want it, buy it. If you get the game, leave them feedback. 3 weeks later when they are selling a dreamcast for $40 chances are you will feel a bit more confident in buying from them.

The best way to build credit is to sell things yourself but ofter buyers a means of seeing any credibility you have (link to ebay feedback with a way of proving it is your account if names dont match, links to other forum feedback, offer skype calls to talk about the sale or XBL/PSN chat).

Like I said this works on other forums and once a commuity of buyers/sellers gets established it can be a very fun place to buy sell and trade, but I leave it up to you guys. If say 20 or so members show definite interest in this I think that is enough to start it up

Yeah I think everything PeteDorr is saying is right and the perfect way to do things. I've found some stuff on CraigsList and have some extra stuff of my own which I'd really like to sell or trade, and I'd like to do it here where I know it will go to good use (contributing to someone's collection).

I added a poll to the topic, everyone vote!

If this poll gets 25 "Yes" responses I will open up The Marketplace as a new forum section.

Pete, how about a "Deals" board, that details weekly Gamestop sales and such or anything that is of note? I know I missed pretty much every special sale because I was never in the know, and just buy used games when I go whenever.

I voted no, there area quit a few places that people can go to do this. (Tho I don't see it as a bad thing by any means)

Also feel as the board gets "older" this would just happen on its own threw PMS etc.

My vote is NO. Not that I wouldnt love to do that but the security issues involved and the liability that would fall on Pete is just too much.
