I think you are still looking at more at quantity rather than quality, but that's besides the point.

If you want to break it down into a matter of ratios, you said that the N64 has around 300 games released in North America. You also said that the N64 has around 25 undeniably great games, not to mention games that are still good, but just not as universally agreeable. If you were to work it into a ration, then by those numbers, one in every twelve N64 games was undeniably great.

Apply that to say, the GameCube, which as you said had roughly 300 more American released titles. If you were to do a ratio count for that, it'd wind up being around 20 to 600, which is one in every 30 games. I even went through a list and looked through all the games, even giving some games the benefit of the doubt. And if you think I'm being unfair, even if I said the GCN had 30 universally great games, the ration would still be 1 in 20 as opposed to the N64's 1 in 12. The GCN would actually need 50 universally GREAT, not good, but great titles to match the ratio of the N64.

Like I said, it's not necessarily how many games, it's how good the games are. And if you were to stick to the whole ratio deal, the SNES had around 700 games in North America, which makes matching the ratio, or improving on it even harder. It would need around 60 games that are universally considered great to match the N64's 1 in 12 ratio.

And again, I just want to reiterate that I'm not saying that the NES/SNES/GCN have bad games, I'm just saying that in numbers, which is what you have been basing your argument on, the N64 has better numbers. It may not have the largest library, but in terms of good games to it's library, it's hard to beat.

I am not breaking things down on a ratio value and saying that ration is how you define a better game library. I am saying the Nintendo 64 has a boat load of really awful games in a pool of games that is paltry compared to every Nintendo machine made since the NES save for the Virtual Boy.

I am also saying that the gamecube sold less units worldwide and it had not only twice the library but at the very least it had twice the amount of good titles.

You find the 64 to have games that captured you and have hold you hostage. I have the same experience with the TG16. I am not talking your opinion. I am saying that your statement that the N64 had an undeniably great library of games is a statement you cannot backup. It has gotten a pass because it has some of the worlds favorite console franchises in 3D for the first time and they weren't bad games. Arguably worse than their 2D counterparts in my opinion but they weren't horrible games.

It also was a great party system. But if you look at the platform's history it is a black mark. When dollars talk, the Gamecube suffered because of lost confidence in Nintendo because of the 5th generation's pedigree.

I don't know why the N64 got so many votes in this poll. Compared to the NES and SNES, the system was vastly inferior. The first party games are great but the third party support with the exceptions of Konami and Treasure was terrible. Not to mention a few genres in the library are nearly absent (fighting, RPG, shmups, light gun games) Maybe either most people on this forum completely missed out on the 8/16-bit era or this forum has a lot of wrestling and James Bond fans. :-/

Alright, I see what your saying. So you're saying that while the N64 does have some undeniably good games, the fact that it's library is so small still hinders it as compared to the others. That I can respect as a viable reason as to why you think the other systems are better.

My opinion is that I'd still take the N64 over the others, but I see where you're coming from.

Yes, as a platform as a whole. However, in my personal opinion is that I'd take any Super Nintendo variant of the N64 titles except for games like Killer Instinct and Doom. Going into 3D had a lot of drawbacks. Vibrant color and a consistent camera angle was a staple of the SNES and the N64 games were far and few in between that mastered that.

Now the 64 gets props because it was the experiment that the Gamecube would master. Star Fox Adventures, Metroid Prime and Wind Waker got the formulas right.

I have to go with the SNES. The Nintendo 64 had great games and the system was capable of many great things, but that controller was absolute garbage. It was a whole bunch of good concepts poorly executed.

Thank goodness for the Virtual Console. Makes N64 games control so much better. :P

N64 wins over SNES by a sliver, I am mildly young, so I never had a SNES, but I had an N64. Interestingly, some SNES games are my favorites of all time, and that's WITHOUT nostalgia, so DAMN they must be good!
However, I still choose the N64, alot of it for nostalgia, but also because it was more groundbreaking with the pseudo analog stick and true 3D games. Plus, imo, it's underappreciated.

N64, that's the system I played growing up, and it has some of my all time favourite games on it. Super Mario 64, Super Smash Bros, Donkey Kong 64, Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Rocket Robot on Wheels, Pokemon Stadium(s) and much more.

I would definatly have to say the Super Nintendo because, it was the first ever gaming system I ever played, there were tons of great games for it, plus I have alot of great memories with it. But the Nintendo 64 is a close second just to add there!
