Forum News Guru's (Now taking new applications!); Dedicated members to post news stories

THIS FEATURE IS NOW DISCONTINUED AS OF 1/10/2012. The information below will remain in tact just for reference to the discussions in this topic.

What is a Guru? They are volunteers, helping to gather and share gaming news stories for everyone to discuss on the forum. They are dedicated to finding news for a particular system, but not limited...they can still post news stories wherever they like :)

List of current Guru's:
(Guru's are subject to be replaced if they are inactive for an extended period of time. They will be contacted 48 hours prior to the replacement, a response is required to maintain Guru status)

Retro Guru
Kharnivore2099

PS3 Guru
bediger

PSP Guru
Obelisk94

Wii Guru

360 Guru:

DS Guru
KingJames88

I was thinking it would be good if we could get some members to volunteer to be forum "news gurus". What do I mean by this? well say you love the Xbox 360 and find yourself reading news and articles about it on websites almost everyday, it would be your job to post interesting news stories in the forums.

Guru's will receive their very own specialized group on the forum (so instead of "Group: Member" it will read "Group: Guru" for example). You will also have your very own name color in orange. I am also granting Guru's limited moderator control over the forum they are a Guru for, such as pinning topics, editing topic titles, moving topics, and a few more.

Whats required:

NEW RULE(!):
If you are a fairly new forum member with a relatively low post count (as in under 100 posts) and are interested in a Guru position, you will be under closer watch for your activity as a guru and are more likely to lose the role if you go inactive for a good amount of time (lets say 1 week). This is only to prevent new members from just jumping on a position and sitting on it, thus not allowing a forum regular interested in the same position to get a shot.

-That you have a geniune interest in the system and would not mind posting links to some of the best articles or news stories for forum members to discuss.

-You really dont have to type your OWN written story, a simple link or embeded video. You can embedd youtube videos by using this BBC code: (IMPORTANT: Remove the spaces contained in the brackets!) [ flash=250,210 ]http://www.YoutubeURLgoesHerecom[ /flash ] go that members do not even haveto leave the forum to view a video. Though I do reccomend at least saying a quick something in the post to let members know what the link is about first.

-No need to feel pressured to have to post like 10 news stories a day. 1 a day is fine by me and as little as like 2 a week if there is really nothing worth talking about, as long as you think the forum community would find it an interesting story to read or better yet discuss. This isnt a job but rather something you WANT to do to help.

If you are still confused as to the role of a Guru, simply put: you search the internet on sites like Gamespot, IGN, Joystiq, whatever and say you are a Wii Guru, it is your job to post topics with links to news stories and such that you found to be interesting. For example: A new Zelda Wii game is announced, so you post a topic with link to the news story you found and then we discuss it. Get it? you are like a news reporter.

I think this will help keep forum content fresh and new to keep people checking back during the day for new topics stuff, and allow us to have some great discussions on all kinds of topics.

If you are interested just let me know in this topic with the system of your choice, but PLEASE do not make me give you Guru status just so you get a name color or something, you really must WANT to do this for the sake of helping out the community. I think this is a really good idea so let me know guys.

I would love to do this for Retro games... there are more "new" things to read about retro consoles than I think many people know. This community seems to have many more current gen gamers than retro gamers and it would be nice to enlighten people on current topics dealing with retro systems.

I like the idea, it will be nice to have "experts" on certain areas that everyone can go to/slash read what they find out. More and more great ideas keep surfacing around here! And congrats e4g, looking forward to some Retro news!

Thanks,

I think if we get some dedicated news Guru's the site will really stay alive because as long as they are finding the new topics to discuss, people will have a reason to keep coming back.

Remember, each forum will have about 2 maximum gurus so if someone either goes inactive on the forum or just doesnt seem to be keeping up I can pass it off to someone else, no hard feelings. If you wanna take a break from it for a bit just let me know and you can stay guru as long as it isnt a very long break.

I'm not sure if anyone is as fond of the PSP around this forum as much I am. I'm willing to Guru it up on that specific handheld as long as its life cycle takes the next year or so. I do alot of research on the PSP specifically because I'm interested in its collection, and check up GameStops database online on a weekly bases for price drops and locations. I also GameFAQs the rather underrated games such as Dead Head Fred and Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology, as well as completing the games.

I'm also huge on the Gamecube, but as I can tell Retro games are based as a whole as they don't carry as much fresh info.

If the spot hasn't been filled yet I wouldn't mind filling in as the Nintendo Wii Guru. I always try to stay up to date with the latest games, and news....(even though nintendo seriously dropped the ball in 2008)

I can be a 360 guru. This is my so 3rd account so ignore the low Gamerscore connected with my current gamertag. I am always reading reviews for 360 games, reading OXM, and doing everything 360. Also, I can be on to add 360 news at least twice a day if needed.

I'd love to be a Retro Guru. I just love the retro scene and to be able to inform people about retro games they may not have heard about would be great.

ok new forum name color is orange, it is much cleaner than all the crazy symbols and colors. I have to look into getting you all some mod powers for your specific forum and not all forums. Also a list of gurus is now located at the top of the first post with a small update in terms of inactivity.

i would like to be apart of the DS guru, i'm always looking for new things about the DS. Plus i have an R4DS, so i can download a popular title(if available for download) such as japanese imports that aren't in america yet and put up some info about the title.(not that i'm supporting downloadable content, please buy the games and use roms as a backup)

I would best fit for the Retro Guru but it's full. I would request DS Guru, but I'm usually reading up on retro style games for the DS like the dungeon crawlers, shmups, platformers, etc. I'm sure the others who requested the DS Guru status would do a better job as I'd be too biased towards certain genres of games.
