so this is a thread where u talk about a video game franchise and discuss things about it like where it started off or where its going and whether or not u hate or love the changes.

For example u can talk about how u hated when u heard Halo being turnd into an RTS
or RE5 going co-op during the day

so thats it

Really, the only thing I can think of right now is what happened to Banjo-Kazooie when Nuts and Bolts was released. I mean, it's a pretty cool idea for a game I guess but the Banjo series needs to stick to the Platforming side of things.

Mario and the million variations of mario games to sell them.

What? Tennis games aren't selling? well I bet if we add MARIO to the mix it will!

It's not that they're bad it's just, severe marketing

and The direction of sonic is worrisome.

And as TolstoyKafkaEvsky mentioned in a video, Games are starting to focus way too much on graphics, and not enough on just making a great game with a great story and great gameplay. Sure, graphics are nice, but some of my favorite games are on past systems because the elements that matter the most are the strongest.

Nintendo is going downward. Where is their originality that they used to possess. All they do now is dish out a new Mario or Zelda. They aren' trying to pull in new people. I mean I love mario but why can't they come out with a new big hit?

You're dissing Nintendo for not being original and not trying to pull in new people? Have you not heard of the Wii or the DS? Games like Wii Sports and Nintendogs are all about pulling in new people. Also, why would they not dish out new Mario and Zelda games? They are two of the biggest and best video game franchises of all time.

Agreed. The Wii, even though Im not a big fan of it, is one of the biggest things to hit gaming in a while. It's also the biggest selling next gen console. The Wii brought something new to the table and it's a big success.

Sonic's latest renditions weren't horrible, needless to say Sonic isn't at his best... but I couldn't agree that genesis sonic games were the apex of the series since I preferred Sonic CD and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle the best.

One series that seriously needs to be reinvented is the Zelda series, the evolution from Zelda to Adventure of Link to Link to the Past to Ocarina of Time were enormous and innovative. After that, I feel the quality of each game individualizing from the rest of the games went down seriously. Windwaker, Link's Awakening and Oracle of Ages / Seasons were okay, but then The Minish Cap and Twilight Princess weren't too fresh.

Lol. I'm sorry but it's true. Wii and DS are very innovative.

I'd have to say Sonic has really hit rock bottom. Sonic Dark Brotherhood I hear was good, but they need to relax and quit trying to make Sonic so up to date. Maybe take a Megaman 9 approach even.

Ok I'm sorry but the just isn't appealing to hardcore gamers. I mean I don't call Wii Sports a new innovation. Its not like they are the only people to ever do motion sensing. I mean no doubt Mario and Zelda are great but why not leave a great series to be great? Don't let it burst into flames by abusing it like Sonic.
I don't know I just haven't found the Wii or DS amazing. IMO, Microsoft or Sony could have done the same thing. I'm not trying to start a flame war with the Nintendo fans. it's just my opinion that Nintendo hasn't produced anything in the "games" franchis(ex. Zelda, Mario) in awhile.

Im not a fan of the Wii, but that doesn't mean it is not innovative. Unfortunately, creating a major game franchise and character is not easy. So in the mean time, Nintendo will stick with their classic titles and try to make them better while some game company makes an amazing game, which could take a VERY long time.

It's hard to start up new franchises this generation. Development costs are expensive and the current state of our economy has game developers that have made clumsy decision in the past now defunct. Mario Galaxy was phenomenal, and twilight princess was more or less more of the same, it still stuck to the classic Zelda formula that makes those games great.

If you're wanting new franchises and original games, there's not much out there that Microsoft Game Studios or Sony Computer Entertainment has done themselves.

Agreed. I love Mario just as much as the next gamer(ok i dont LOVE it but i like it a lot) but the overall causalness and kid games they have turned me away. I really thought the Wii would be amazing. I am in NO MEANS bashing Nintendo I just thought the Wii would turn out better.

I'm going to say what is happening to gaming in my point of view. Gaming started off as a casual thing to do with family and friends and enjoy some relax, chill out time. Now, it seems as though it's all about fanboy wars and graphics. Developers need to take the focus off graphics this generation and make the #1 priority gameplay and replay value. The PS2 had some great titles that focused on gameplay, and even though the graphics weren't too good, I didn't care because the gameplay was awesome. Take a look at the GTA series, the gameplay used to be so good, and with the most recent release of GTA IV, they focussed too much on graphics and the gameplay and story lacked for me. This post is getting a little long so I'll sum up the rest. Gaming is now all about which is better and what looks the best, instead of the gameplay which is lacking.

exactly what I was saying.

And other than graphics I think fanboys really take away from it. You can't just have fun playing a game anymore without someone critisizing the console you own. Fan boys are flawed because their priority clearly isn't the games, but the system that plays them. At the end of the day, it doesn;t matter what your system CAN do, it's the games it has.

Of course mario games will sell but it would be nice for them to give people new titles. Not just mario wearing different outfits lol.
