Trolls on Youtube

As much as I love Youtube, I can't help but feel that the "user comments" section is fast becoming the dumping ground for trolls to post stupid and juvenile rants, complete with the standard poor spelling and abundance of F-bombs and other colorful expletives (since when did calling everything "gay" become so fashionable.)

Take Pete's channel for instance, the comments sections of his videos are littered with people posting spiteful comments like "get a life", "nerd", "get laid", etc. In some cases, if his choice of games differs from that of another user, they try to start a flame war. It's a huge drawback to unmoderated forums and I've always found it annoying. Ironically, people who say that Pete has "no life" should try looking in a mirror; posting stupid comments online for no reason other than to stir things up is the act of a total no-lifer.

This kind of crap is a sad reality of the internet age, but I am glad that Pete is not responding to the flamers; it only encourages them and diverts his energy away from more important things....like making videos.

I totally agree, it's a real shame to see things like this but i guess theres all kinds of idiots out there. It's a shame there isn't something like a comment approval or something like that on Youtube. But Pete has some superb videos and i love watching them, especially as he has some unique games which not a lot of people heard of, fair play to him for ignoring the comments :)
It's not what we do in life that we are remembered for, but what we do with the time that is given to us

You can't expect people to all have the same opinions on things. If some people think Pete has no life and he should get laid then they're entitled to say that. Some of the most thoughtful, interesting and in depth discussions I've seen on YouTube have started with someone calling someone a "cu*t" or similar. It'd be a bit boring if everyone just agreed with each other and licked peoples arses all the time.

I think the YouTube commenting system is fine just the way it is.

Yeah, it sucks, but it's the internet, don't take it too seriously.

Have to agree with this topic. I wouldn't mind at all if Pete disabled commenting completely due to how it's abused.

I'd rather have more videos from Pete than have him waste any energy trying to filter out all the spam and derogatory comments.

There is a difference between sharing opinions and simply being an idiot. If I take issue with what a person does, I express myself like an adult and provide solid backing arguments and show the other person the proper respect. That's how discussions go in positive and constructive directions. Sadly, the trolls on Youtube are incapable of this. They post negative comments for no reason other than to be spiteful and nasty. Users who behave like that should be banned permanently.
