How do you guys feel about casual gamers; do you think they positively or negatively effect the gaming industry?

I think that, for the most part, casual gamers have a positive influence on the gaming industry. Before casual gamers existed, video games were usually viewed by non-gamers as a nerdy hobby that children/teens did for fun. Now thanks to games like Guitar Hero, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Rockband, Mario kart(especially for wii), Dance Dance Revalution, and brain age, gaming has become such a mainstream thing. Most 65 year old people love the wii and the ds(if they played it before). Casual gamers have also caused video games to be viewed more seriously. Things like the wii, guitar hero, and more recently Natal have been mentioned on the news, and they weren't saying something like "So tell your kids about this !" Another thing that their doing is keeping gaming alive. Whats the one thing that stops something from being produced? SALES! I understand that video game production won't end for a very long time, but you have to agree that casual gamers are helping to keep gaming alive. Because right now, in america, people are most likely a gamer of some sort.

OKAY, theres my opinion on the subject, what's yours?

They can't hurt gaming, they can only help

If they r supporting the gaming industries then you cant be negative to them

They really do help us because they buy games & they help morph the image of gamers everywhere

I would say help, because it introdues games easier to new gamers. But i'm not really one for labeling games as casual or hardcore.

The great thing about the 360 isn't beating the games. It's showing everyone online that I did

It's good in the sense that they supply sales and some casual games can be pretty fun. But it's bad in the sense that now there is a lot of emphasis on casual gaming and bringing families together instead of creating cool games.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but I've had my Wii since launch, and it's only been recently that there have been multiple releases that I want, other times I would walk into a game store and Wii games would either be old good ones which I already have, cheap no name games, or casual games which only had an average score of 50. Only been recently that I've started buying games a lot recently because now more "gamer" games are hitting the Wii shelves again.

I pretty much quit gaming at the start of last year because there was nothing being released basically.

Companies are making more and more games for the casual gamers. It's not necessarily bad, but I don't think that it takes anything away form the hardcore gamer.

I think that casual gamers have a positive impact on the gaming industry as a whole. In this struggling economy, any money being spent on games and gaming-related products can only help. Plus, the demographic of casual gamers is expanding thanks to systems like the Nintendo Wii and the DS.

I personally am not a hardcore gamer, but I wouldn't identify myself as a casual gamer either; I fall somewhere in between. I enjoy my Nintendo Wii but I also play my Xbox 360 a lot, so I can appreciate both ends. Some might say that the increase of casual gamers has resulted in more shovelware being released to accommodate them, but that's subjective.
