I have an addiction to a website, but whenever I go on it, I feel guilty about it and want to quit going on it. I've been trying to quit going on it for about a year now, but I usually go without it for a month, then I go back onto it for a day or 2, then feel bad about it. I think about what I could had done with the time I wasted on it. Please don't be all like "what site is it? What's wrong with it?" The point is that I want to quit going on it. The sun was clear today and I thought to myself that when I get home I would go outside and work out, but instead I went onto that website and by the time I got off it, I had wasted 2 hours and it was dark outside. I'm just going to post here every so often about how I'm going with not going onto it, because I really want to quit going onto it and I know that if I have to report back to people about it, I will have a better chance of rethinking my decisions and getting a hold of my mental addiction to it. From your description, my guess would be that it's an online gaming site that is taking up all your time. Social networking is another possibility, but I won't press you for details. I had a friend who was addicted to video games and he was able to solve it with the help of his friends and family. If you own your PC and nobody has the authority to stop you from using this it, you may need to have a friend or family member assist you. Install a parental control program on your PC that will limit the amount of time you can spend online; most newer PCs have these tools built in. Agree to a time limit and have them set the controls and the password. That way, you won't be able to spend extended periods online. If you want to quite cold turkey, block the site altogether so that surfing it from home is not even an option. Over time, you will get used to these restrictions and you won't feel the compulsive need to keep going onto this site. That is what worked for my friend, anyway. If that doesn't work, seek therapy. Web addiction is a real problem and it affects many people. Whatever you decide to do, good luck! |

Yeah, just block the website from your computer. I'm not sure how it works, but I guess you use some program to block it, and you use a code to get in it. Tell a close friend/family member to make the code and keep that code to themselves. Hope this helps!

I've wasted many hours of my life on Myspace. Lol But now it's YouTube Haha. But it's ok. I have fun on Youtube whereas on Myspace I felt like I was just wasting time. Youtube doesn't feel like a waste of time for me since I learn stuff from every video I watch. |

I tried blocking it once, but the blocker on my PC then requested the password for EVERYTHING for some reason. But so far, it's been 18 hours since I've been on it. I'm going shopping in an hour to get Klonoa on Wii and hopefully some CD's and there's also been a book and a giant Donkey Kong plushie I've had my eye on. So I'm doing good so far. Also I feel that getting over the addiction without blockers will be more of an acomplishment. I will post back here later on about how I'm doing, and share my purchases, too. |

I already have a feeling what site You're going on. But anyway, Try popping in a game when you think about it, that's what I do, I get so caught up in the game I seem to not want to do any other thing but to beat it. |

Social sites can be addictive, that's for sure. The best thing to do is keep yourself busy in other areas and wean yourself off of the site. But don't beat yourself up if you cave in and go back on. Just set boundaries for yourself and you'll do fine. |

I also beat my brothers MineSweeper score. Somehow I managed to beat his beginner score of 13 seconds in 3 seconds because I happened to click the mouse without thinking in 5 areas which cleared up the board. CHAMPION OF THE UNIVERSE! |

Well it's been two days now. I feel more confident about myself now and I used the avaliable time today to make a new YouTube Poop - a Superman one. I'll upload it sometime tomorrow, when no one else is home so the internet wont slow down and die out. |

go to the craft store and get a big thing thing of plastic craft beads, and then get an big old sauce jar like a tomato sauce jar or something. every night before you go to bed put 1 bead in the jar each day you don't go to the undesired website and when the jar fills all the way to the top take yourself out for lunch at your favorite restaurant or something. it will be really encouraging to watch the jar slowly fill up as you distance yourself from the undesired habit, esepcially if you can keep a calendar nearby and count up the days as you go. and if you mess up, dump the entire jar and start from zero, no cheating, basically treat slipping up as though its absolutely not an option. |

I've marked on my calendar for the 5th - 8th September because I have a four day weekend then, if I get to that time and haven't been on the site, I plan on going for a full day of shopping. |

No, it isn't 4chan. But so far doing well. Been 4 days now. But then again, I've gotten to a month - 2 months then randomly had the random urge. So one day at a time.

I find the more you try to force yourself not to do something, the more you want to do it, usually addictions whatever it maybe are very hard to get over. I don't really think anyone fully gets over an addiction, you more so replace it with a different behaviour. I find people who quit smoking will eat hard candies, or chew gum much more often. I'd say your best best is to stop putting so much sweat and pressure on it, acknowledge that it is a problem, but weigh out what else could be done in that time, and what else you enjoy, fill it up with other things you enjoy doing. As more time passes you find the craving for doing what you were lessening since you are occupied with other things. I use to be really addicted to chat rooms, it was becoming a problem so I started doing photoshop work, started collecting comics, going outside to read them, writing, playing games. I felt much less antsy since I replaced my time with something else that I found to be entertaining and that held my attention. Edited by Porcelain, Aug 6 2009, 08:21 PM.

Well I can't believe it's been a week now. The extra thought about coming back here to talk about how i'm going so far is helping me. I went to the library today, got a Witcher book, Pete has the game based on it. I also made a new YouTube vid. Which has 95 views in just over 2 hours and considering I only have 18 subs, that's pretty cool. |

Most of you prob don't care anymore but posting here is helping me. I've decided that if I make it to a month, there is a KISS box set I really want, so I'll buy it. And since my birthday is a few days off being day 100, if I make it to my birthday without going on the site, I'm going to use the money I get to buy myself a PSP!
