I want a GAME CONSOLE not a home theatre centepiece and I can do all those things BETTER without ever touching a PS3. And for me, those features are nowhere remarkable, Blu Ray is nothing because you still have to install the big games into the HD, the 360 can do that as well. Why would I use it's terrible web browser if my computer can do it better. And from my experience, the free PSN is terrible, so paying for your Xbox live is really worth it. The 360 has many flaws, that's the fact, but as long as those flaws can be fixed, I'm sticking with it. In MY opinion, all these new stuff on the PS3 is overrated, because all those features too, has flaws.
How can you say PSN is terrible if you don't have a PS3? Yes it's a game console and can do much more. PS3 exclusives are just amazing to say the least. The ps3 webrowser is great if i'm in a chat and my friend and I are arguing aout something, I just bring up the browser without having to start up my computer. Added the PS3 and Xbox 360 are about the same price, but the PS3 has more features, and better exclusives. But I mean if cross game chat and party chat are that amazing then well I guess you should get a 360. I don't have a PS3 of my own, but my brother next room, 5 steps away from me has one and I play there every once in a while. Sometimes I watch him play online, and he himself would say that Xbox live is much better, not to mention that he supports the PS3 as much as you do. The better games and better exclusives part is a whole new argument so I won't get there. But how can the PS3 do much more? Yes the 360 has no web browser but that's about it. The PS3 can play movies, so does the 360. The PS3 can install games, so does the 360. I can't see how adding blu ray and free online gaming make sthe PS3 "can do more".

The great thing about the 360 isn't beating the games. It's showing everyone online that I did

I have about 3 games that required an instilation. Most either just loaded up like normal or just needed a system update.

Basically MS tried to pull a Sony. I see alot of you calling the ps1 reliable. Well the 1st gen systems werent. That would be launch systems. The systems in the first year of release. Then the ps2 came along and guess what? Oops DRES all over the place. I had a luanch ps2 from 2001 and it was total crap. It finally stopped reading discs in 2003-2004. I had to buy a new system. Its one of th reasons why I wont buy a ps3. At least not now.
Also sony denies these problems for years afterwards. Just like with MS and the 360 people threatened sony with lawsuits, the better business bureau and so on. Yet it did nothing much. Sony kept selling defective systems. the ps2 sold 120+ million systems and part of those sales, maybe even 60-70% was made up of DRE replacements.
So thats what MS did. They releases a system with defects and planned on people throwing thier system out and just buying a new one. Several factors come into play and ruined this. 1 is the price. The 360 was far to expensive for people to just throw out. So the calls started coming into MS customer service line about defective 360s. The other factor is the economy. About the time of MS releasing the 360 and when the first few RROD cases came about the economy started going down pretty much around the world. So that means money became short. People were broke and didnt have the money for a new system. Which caused MS trouble. The ps2 was releases at $300, the 360 at $300-$400. The $400 was $100 more then the ps2.
I also believe the ps3s failure rate would be higher as well if it had sold more systems. Everyone knows the arguments about the ps3s price. I have my own theories about that. Given the ps3s high price I would suspect mostly adults bought it. Sure they might play games but they work as well so that means less time playing on the ps3 which cuts back on wear and tear on the system and other effect which could lead to a malfunction. It has been proven that ps3 gets less play time then the other systems. Im not saying all ps3 owners are adults. I know kids own ps3s as well. But I would say slightly more adults do.
My other theory involves ps3 as a BR player. Also linked to the adults theory. Anyone 18 or older is an adult. So just to clear that up. Its also a well known fact that the ps3 is used mainly as a BR player. This is proven by the low game sales for even major ps3 exclusive titles like resistance 1 and 2 and the high sales numbers for BR movies when compared to game sales. So if someones using the ps3 as a BR player that means they may watch 2-3 movies a week. Maybe less. Maybe a little more possibly given thier schedule. But that means once again the ps3 is still getting less wear and tear or use. The system cant lafunction if its not used.

As for the failure rate it's not even close the the 360's, only one model can get YLOD it's been proven the 60 Gig is the only model to get YLOD. So your being pretty ignorant not buying a PS3 because of it may getting YLOD.

So your being pretty ignorant not buying a PS3 because of it may getting YLOD. I think its pretty ignorant to call people ignorant, seeing as I havent said anything negative to anyone here. Yes I was talking about the ps3s price. It was still $400 when it was having problems and $500-$600 during the worst days of its life. Even at $300 its still more expensive then the 360s arcade model. MS will drop the 360s price soon and the ps3 will still be much more expensive then the 360. The $400,$500 and $600 price tags are what have hurt the ps3 the most.
Also Im speaking of more then YLOD. The ps3 could have DRES like the ps2 did. Who knows. Because the ps3s havent sold enough to give a reliable insight into its reliability. Its also known that ps3s dont get heavy usage either. Seeing as most people bought them as BR players. So the ps3s failure rate seems low now. But if it sold better Im sure the reliability problems would have increased. I havent bought a 360 yet because I dont have the extra cash to spare and most importantly reliability. RROD is the biggest reason though. I would expend the money to get one, but the fact that reliability isnt good makes me wary of it.

A failure are of 45% is rather alarming, however statistics are not an exact science. I now many people who own a 360 and only a small number of them have experienced problems. I bought my 360 (Elite Jasper model) in April and, aside from one time when the console froze during an update, I have had no problems with it. Fingers crossed that this continues to be the case.
Next to the Wii and the PS3, the 360 has a bad repuration for failing on people and this is unacceptable given the amount of money that Microsoft makes from it. But that's the problem; cheaper technology and a competitive market has caused companies to rush out their products, fully aware that there are problems with them. That's why I never buy systems at launch, both because they will go down in price and most technology issues are sorted out during the first year or two of the production cycle.

The elite is 299 so its the same as ps3, it hasen't sold enough to know if it's reliable? 23 million is not enough? 23 million compared to the 360s sales, Yes 23 isnt enough. That extra 10-11 million the 360 has over the ps3 really makes difference with reliability. More systems out in homes means more chances of malfunctions and errors. Less systems means less malfunctions.

@Wolfshelmut;
Saying the PS3 may have problems and isn't proven to not have problem IS ignorant. The PS3 has 23 million system, yeah maybe a couple million of those sales were to be used at BR players, but there are at least 15 million consoles being heavily gamed on by gamers. The 60GB is the only one with the YLOD problem. You complained about the PS3's price and how the arcade is cheaper, yeah the arcade is cheaper but what do you get with the arcade? Basically nothing that you need. And dude, saying how the 360 is proven more unreliable because it has more sales is ignorant as well. The PS3 has been proven to be a reliable a system. Sony learned from their PS2 mistake whilst MS didn't learn from their Xbox mistake. Now I'm not saying the 360 is a bad console, no not at all, I love all 3 next generation consoles. But nobody can deny that the 360 has terrible hardware, the system design is just off the charts horrible.

If there are less systems in homes then there is less chance for malfunctions. It like the ps3 hasnt had a real field test yet. Sure it ran the obstacle course and came through. But it hasnt seen any real action. There isnt enough systems sold getting heavy playtime is what I mean.

The 360 has a 33% failure rate in it's first year, what does that tell you? I bet only 10 million consoles were sold in the first year and if 3.3 million of those break, well again you can see for yourself. You're just being ridiculous.

Like I said in the "Has the PS3 failed this gen" topic is you have read that is I think we should close both topics, it has brought out a lot of fanboyism in some of us and that should not be promoted on this forum, especially from us moderators, this one though we can make a new topic just for information on the subject, but put it in general gaming and maybe even add the failure rated for ALL consoles if we can find them? Anyone else agree?

Mods, we should not tolerate fanboyism, but as far as I'm concerned everyone here is making a point in defending their views and I don't consider that fanboyism but rather a smart debate. Let's keep it clean and NO PERSONAL ATTACKS.

Oh you silly boys, it simply comes down to preference and what you think of each console and how it preforms to your standards, sometimes it can be unfair to project those opinions onto others, than again sometimes it helps and furthers knowledge with others on what some key points are, and what are some things to keep an eye out on.
Individuals who are passionate about one certain console will back it up and often just provide pieces of information that benefit their side and will point out flaws on other systems and overlook flaws within their own preferred system.
Others like myself are pretty neutral, I won't protect or smother any console, I'll tell you how I see it!
There are many things flying back and forth in this topic, and it's no longer becoming a budding discussion but more of who gets the upper hand in the argument. Not to say that there were not useful pieces of information but sometimes it comes off a little too strong or bashing.
If you look at it the 360 has had it's multitude of problems, it's notoriously known for it's RRoD that spawned off it's own name and phenomena to explain the problem of it malfunctioning. This should not deter people from ever buying a 360, this problem is slowly being worked out, it took 3 models to get to the 360 now with the Jasper unit but it's certainly being worked upon.
Ps3 has a little less known problems, as with EVERY system, especially launch systems they tend to be more prone to these malfunctions since technology being used behind them is new so people need to learn and tinker with them to see what are short term/long term effects that they may cause. This goes with any new Tech, not just consoles. Again, this should not deter people from buying a Ps3, the systems are generally solid units, again it comes down to what you are LOOKING for.
About 23 million units not enough to predict if a system is reliable or not? Come on, especially since the PS3 has been out since November of 2006, that is plenty of time to work on bugs and improve it. We are not talking about 23 million units sold within a year, with time comes more facts and knowledge on either how to prevent or improve what is impeding a console.
In the end arguments will still remain, people will still side with their own preferences and continue to provide information that will further prove their point on either the PS3 or 360 side, topics like these can really bring out the stubbornness in many of us. If possible try to refrain on bringing up the same points over and over, arguing price points are pointless now since both systems mirror eachother there.
Sometimes I swear, some of you guys just need to sit down, get your sisters or cousins or whoever my little pony toy and comb their rainbow hair! Go do it, it's calming! I'll let you borrow mine.

I don't find this accurate at all because the way IGN did this survey was stupid. All they did was ask around 5000 people to do a survey on how often does their console fail.
First off, 5000 people isn't even half of how many people own an Xbox 360, a PS3, or a Wii so that alone makes this finding inaccurate. I mean that's like saying I ask 10 friends who's ps3 failed and four of them had theirs failed and meaning that the PS3 has a 40% failure rate.
Second, when you're dealing with fanboys, they will most likely lie and make the other consoles look bad compared to the one they are soo attached to.
Third, the results themselves are very shocking if this is true. What I mean is that the end results are very high even for the 360. The wii having a 6.8% failure rate!?!?! For a console like the wii doesn't even brake that much. Even the PS3's claimed failure rate is outrageous!!! I have never met anyone who has a PS3 and told me that their PS3 failed on them.
I am still surprised that some people actually believe these findings even though this isn't even 10% true. People will believe anything these days. LOL

LOL Well I find it believable from personal experience. I have many friends on XBL who's 360s have broken 3-5 times. I have 1 friend on PSN who's PS3 started freezing on him and he had to get it replaced. I've never even met or talked with anybody who's Wii has failed on them. I really don't like how Microsoft is even handling the situation though. If they knew their product was faulty when they released it, they either should not have released it, or had a recall on the console and fixed the problem. I don't respect Microsoft as a company, they made a console with garbage hardware, at least XBL is amazing.
Not saying Sony is perfect though, PSN is pretty terrible and they should have matched XBL's features 2 years ago.

Not saying Sony is perfect though, PSN is pretty terrible and they should have matched XBL's features 2 years ago. So you are agreeing to some of my statements a little bit. But I forgot to state this however. When it comes to the Xbox 360, IGN failed to ask the following questions:
When did you get your 360? How much do you play on it? What motherboard does it use?
As the years go buy, Microsoft is trying to deal with the RROD problem every year by giving the newer 360's a new motherboard so that the chance of having the RROD is smaller. It's not the best way to solve it but at least they are trying.
You can find the manufacturing date on your 360 at the back of your console and look up what motherboard it uses.
I believed that if they had asked these questions as well, the failure rate would be much smaller and they might even split the 360's official failure rate by years from 2005 to now.
