In his 'August 2009 Video Game Sales Preview' Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has said he believes Nintendo must cut the price of its Wii console to under $200 no later than November 2009 if the platform holder intends to meet its sales forecast. "We do not think that Nintendo’s Wii hardware forecast is achievable without a price cut, and as long as the Wii remains at its November 2006 launch price of $249.99, we expect continued year-over-year declines for that console’s sales," said Pachter. He added: "… the Wii remains at its November 2006 launch price of $249.99, which should continue to negatively impact that console’s sales until the company decides to cut price below $200, which we expect no later than November." Regarding hardware sales in the US for the month of August, Pachter estimates 240,000 for the Wii, 205,000 for the Xbox 360 and 160,000 for the PS3. However, he does predict substantial growth for PS3 sales in September following the launch of the PS3 Slim and the introduction of a lower price point. I think it's imperative for them to drop the price if they are to remain the dominant console. Both the PS3 and 360 have had recent price cuts and this levels the playing field. They will need to either drop the price or start releasing console-game bundles in order to stay competitive. |

They MUST drop the price in order to compete properly, if you think about the PS3 and the Elite Xbox only being just another what..50 bucks more for 120GB of space, Live capabilities, Blu Ray (ps3), better specs the public will start to catch on and go towards the big houses. Though Nintendo has established so much of this family get together atmosphere where the Wii caters to everyone and their dog that they still would sell copies without the price drop. The Wii has brought on the era of "casual" video gamers. Where you can be 3 or 63 and own and be able to play a wii. It would be a smart move though, of course they want the price dropped around the Holidays, and yet again the Wii will be harder to find than a Moogle in a starbucks. Thats cool that it will get a price cut although I don't think Nintendo really needs to cause Wii's sell like hot cakes but this should really stiffen' the console war up. |

The Wii is selling too much now-a-days is it? I couldn't see why it would keep pulling huge numbers every week, not saying the Wii isn't good but how can it keep pulling big numbers each week for so long? The Wii's sales wil eventually start declining if you ask me, most likely this January. |

I agree with the PS3 now at $299 the sales will go down, but the Wii is a casual gamers best friend & there are tons of casual gamers still out there without a console, but I do agree the price cut will help. |

I don't think the Wii needs to drop its price at all because there has been almost no signs of the 360 elite or PS3 Slim catching up to the Wii's humungous sales at all even with the price drops. Nowadays it is just the 360 competing with the ps3 for second. That's just my opinion though. |
