Putting movies onto the PS3; Will this work?

Would I be able to take a DVD, put it on iTunes and then transfer it onto an external harddrive, hook that external harddrive up to my PS3 via USB, and put the movies directly onto my PS3 without having to put in the disc? Does anybody know if this will work because I'd really like to have most of my movies digitally on my PS3 so I can easily watch them.

That sounds like a lot of work to me! I don't know from personal experience since I have yet to put any video/movie media on my ps3, so I asked a buddy, but don't quote me on this.

What he does is Rip the DVD onto his PC, or he just downloads them from torrent. He uses a file converter to convert the movie into a file extension the PS3 reads if the movie he downloaded isn't already.

He puts it on a USB drive, and than just transfers it onto the PS3.
Though I heard that much like the Xbox it won't let you transfer Data from your USB to be stored on the hard drive, but he seems to be able to do it!

Give it a try, let me know, I am too curious about this, I just don't have my USB drive right now in order to try it myself.

I'll be sure to keep you posted, first I need to buy myself a larger harddrive and an external harddrive, I'll proably buy a 500GB harddrive for my PS3, or 300GB, not sure yet.

All you would have to do is rip the DVD to your computer and use a PS3 video converter to make it .mp4 then put the converted file on your USB flash drive then plug it into your PS3 and copy the file.

If you don't know how to rip a DVD I can give you the correct procedures but in a PM.

**WARNING, MAJOR N00BAGE**- Wait, what about itunes? You can rip movies from a dvd using itunes? Or were you saying that you would put it on itunes for a conversion?

Use Handbrake

It's for PC, Mac and Linux

It's will convert directly from a DVD to the best format/resolution for the PS3 in the presets.
