I have seen alot of people talk about the ps3 slim and how great it is. Its great that sony dropped the price. Also it does look good compared to the larger ps3s. But what I hardly see anyone mention is how these slim down, less costly systems are generally released at the end or very near the end of the systems life. Some have more changes then other systems. But 99% of the time this is done near the end of the systems life. I can see this as a bad sign for sony and the ps3. Sure it might not be taken off the market completely, but surely the ps3s life span must be ticking down for sony to do this and that quickly. The ps3 has been around since 06. Its been about 4 yrs. MS killed the xbox 1 off in 4 yrs. Maybe sony has the same plan. Maybe the ps4 will be here quicker then everyone thinks. Ok more like 3.5 yrs. Edited by wulfshelmut, Sep 13 2009, 09:26 PM.

I'll just cut strait to my point I disagree completly. The cost drop was so people would actually buy the Ps3, not because there making a PS4. I am positive that a PS4 won't come until at the earliest 2013. |

I'm sorry but I have to LOL. What company released a slim model in the last 2 generations? Sony. The PS1 had a slim model I believe 6 years before it got cut off. The PS2 had a slim model released in 2004 I believe and the PS2 is still going. Sony cut the price of the PS3 and made a slim model so people can actually afford to buy it. The PS3 is no where NEAR the end of it's life cycle, Sony has so many franchises to cash in on and so much going for it making a PS4 would be so stupid and unnecessary, not to mention expensive as hell. I don't see the PS3's life cycle ending until the earlier 2016. Sony has a 10 year plan and sticks to that plan for all their consoles, PS1 - 1996-2006, PS2 - 2000-2010, PS3 - 2006-2016. The reason Microsoft cut off the Xbox is because the Xbox was a failure and couldn't compete with the PS2 so they dumped it and rushed to put out the Xbox 360 because Sony could put out the PS3 because if the Xbox 360 and PS3 were released on the same day, the PS3 would have killed it off very quickly because of the huge following the Playstation brand had/has. I'm getting a little off-topic now so I'm going to end it here, but no way in hell will we see a PS4 come out any time soon, maybe in 4-5 years. |

Was the ps1 really being supported in 2006? I was still buying games for it in 2000-2002 and it seemed pretty dead then. I dont remember many new games. Not many quality games. Maybe a few. But no where near its early on support. Same thing for ps2. Is sony still really supporting it? I havent bought a new released game since GTA SA and Metal Gear solid 3. The last two kind of new games I bought was GTA LCS, VCS and God Of War 2. Thats it. The ps2 if it isnt declared dead already pretty much is. No new ames released have interested me. So sony has stopped supporting the ps2 for me. I buy mostly used older games for it now, also some games I missed out on. Also I highly doubt the ps3 will last to 2016. 2013 sounds more realistic. 2012 at earliest for them to pull the plug. But I would say 2013. Also if they want to get a head start on MS they will have to release the ps4 before them and I dont see them juggling an already costly ps3, thier financial problems and the cost of the ps4. Although I see your point, and usually for Sony if signifies that something new is close by, I don't think that is the case this time. Sony knew that their PS3 was not doing as well in the market and needed a price cut, what better to not only give a price cut but re introduce a new version of the PS3, it's like re launching the console all together again, it brings so much more attention than just a price cut. It's working so far! Also Sony has lost a lot of exclusive developers, I think by trying to get their console into more homes they can start negotiating better on getting new licenses back since it will be more appealing for the game company to potentially make a lot of profit. The PS3 is slightly more difficult to manufacture for, so that puts a lot of developers off, but the PS3 is truly a powerful system, they are just getting the gist of how to make a game for it from the ground up, I don't think they would want to create another console in which the whole process is repeated again and it's difficult to develop for. So no worries from my side! Honestly I didn't even think of the possibility, I guess for myself it still feels like the PS3 just recently came out since it's had quite a slow climb. It would take Sony far too much money at this point to try and create a new superior console, I think they will want to focus on the PS3 for years to come. |

I know sony cut the systems size for cost. I think its great. Its what they should have done from the start. But it just seems odd to me. I didnt see the ps2 slim till the ps2s life was almost over. The Genesis had two different system models as well. The 2 and 3. The 2 came almost before the launch of the ps1 and then end of the SNES and Genesis generation. The Genesis 3 came when the system was pretty much dead almost. I dont think there were any new games for the system at all by then. The ps1 slim came when the ps1 was pretty much dead as well. The ps2 is the only system that has lasted this long. Except for the Genesis and SNES. They lasted long as well. But still when thier time came, the were phased out. |
