TGS09: RE5: Alternate Version To Incorporate PS3 Motion Control

More news straight from the land of giant robots, Sony announced today that they’re releasing a new iteration of Resident Evil 5 for the PS3. The game incorporates not only new content, but also the PlayStation motion control that’s coming this spring.

Titled Resident Evil 5: Alternate Version, the game is reminiscent of the Nintendo Wii port of Resident Evil 4, which allowed users to use the Wiimote to aim Leon Kennedy’s weapons. Will the game take full advantage of the new technology to justify a repurchasing of the awesome game? It’s worked in the past…

If tacking on some motion-based controls isn’t enough for you, there is a rumor that the game will be receiving some Jill Valentine-flavored content. The character’s voice actress recently spoke with IGN about some recent voice work she did, and also alluded to a “director’s cut” type of RE5 project on the horizon. It turns out that horizon is Spring 2010, the same time Sony’s motion controller is due out.

However this turns out, there is no such thing as too much Resident Evil. Unless someone is involved who’s name rhymes with Villa Nova-stitch.

well its not bad its called.

OCZ OCZMSNIA Neural Impulse Actuator.

go look it up on youtube its very cool but the tech is lacking badly. I just cant wait till consoles and pc games have higher tech to improve this and then we will only be needing stuff like this. We need to move pass ps3/wii/xbox 360 motion and work on this tech for consoles !
Not everybody, well, not even a lot of people want virtual reality, we play video games to play video games, not to try and virtually live something else. Besides, I wouldn't trust anything attached to my head, especially in this day in age.

Thats not virtual reality i would look up the word virtual reality on google :) virtual reality is putting your self into the game it self. your controlling the game with your brain but still looking at the screen thats not virtual reality

Back to the subject at hand...

Other than the aestetics...resident evil 5 is a poor poor game. i spent £40 on this on the day of release(on xbox, dont go saying ps version is much better, cause it's still the same game!) and was horribly disapointed. fun for a day/week, tedious and just downright boring for a lifetime.

I went back and played RE1: directors cut just to ease the pain.
I miss the zombies...they should just call it "genocide evil" from now on really.

The main point here is, I don't want something strapped to my head, the Wii is not a failure and is a great console, and the PS3 motion controller is really cool and will bring new gameplay to the console.

I think you're being a bit harsh on the game. I'd put this in the same class as HALO 3. Too much hype for it's own good.

I'd say it's a love-it/hate-it kinda game.

Wiki Quote

"Virtual Reality is often used to describe a wide variety of applications, commonly associated with its immersive, highly visual, 3D environments."

So if you were immersed in an old NES game, could that be considered a Virtual Reality experience?

I think the term "Virtual Reality" is relative.

Topic derailed much?
I am glad as I will probably pick this up. Unlike what happened with persona 3 where they say fes isn't coming at all and then release it 2 months later, I won't get the raw end of the deal.

I'm letting this one pass by, considering I'm not much of a fan for motion controls I don't see this as personally bringing me much joy.

I think it will definitely add a new flavour and possibly more immersive, but I honestly don't want to purchase another copy of the game that I already previously played to death before.

I think I would for sure be more keen on this idea if it was a couple of years down the road because it would bring back that excitement, and perhaps nostalgia for the game, but as of right now I'm still at my fill.

It will still sell because honestly motion controls are appealing to many people, and those who missed it out to begin with can re try it now!

Please try and keep things on topic here guys, no more bashing, it causes too much negative defense.

That looks awesome Bediger!
But they would remake the game(considering they just released the GOTY edition). They would just patch the game, because the added use of the motion controller doesn't seem any bigger than the added water, or the paint gun they added through dlc.
