for me it would be:

3. Professor Layton: And The Curious Village (never been a puzzle fan)

2. Resident Evil 5 (I didn't like 4 for some reason)

1. Kingdom Hearts-Series (Disney with Square Enix what! but they Did It)

I only going to stick to this gen, in no order;

Saints Row 2, didn't like the first one but this is one of my favorite games this generation.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, I was never a Tomb Raider fan (except the movie) and I didn't think I'd like this game at all, but I ended up LOVING it and a beating it several times.

Valkyria Chronicles, when I first downloaded the demo I went in with very low expectations. This game surprised the hell out of me, I had seen gameplay on it and it didn't look like a game I'd like at all, boy was I wrong. I love this game, very good storyline and characters that you actually care about if they die. The graphics are very stylish and look fantastic and I had never liked cell shaded games before, another reason I didn't expect to like it =]

By the way, I really like this topic.

1. Perfect Dark Zero: I was never a fan of third person shooters, I saw the limited edition version of it on GameStop one day for like 5 bucks so I decided to buy it for collection purposes. I played it and it was a blast, this kinda got me on the mood of trying other third person shooters.

2. Professor Layton and the Curious Village: Well, back when my DSi is still brand new and only has one game (Children of Mana), I went to Blockbuster and saw this big pile of games inside a huge tray for sale. I dug on it and I saw it sealed for $9.99. The cover didn't really attract me and I remember thinking that it's a kids game but i bought it anyway since its cheap. The next thing I know is I stayed up all night trying to solve this one puzzle. And it's 9.99, it's normal price back then is still like 20 bucks.

3. Final Fantasy 7: I'm not a fan of the Final Fantasy series, but I gave VII a shot to see what the buzz is all about. Well, it has everything I've been looking for in an RPG, romance, awesome storyline and all those stuff. I still didn't like the random encounters and I haven't finished it yet but I will someday.

Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando - concept seemed weird, but I love it!
Diablo 2 - It looked horrible, but it is extremely fun and addicting!
The Sims Series - I was puzzled why people were so addicted by controlling a computer animated family of their own, so I tried it and loved it!

1. Dragon Quest 5 - Got the DS for 4, didn't expect anything out of 5 since 4 was the legendary one for me, ended up liking 5 more

2. Big Bang Mini - The name turned me off, didn't sound like something I'd ever consider buying (i.e. shovelware), but I got it, and it sure doesn't feel like shovelware to me. Very fun, very challenging little game.

3. Prism - Looked ugly in screenshots, but bought based on a recommendation. And I have to say I really enjoy this game. It's also very challenging.

My bad, again, I was never a fan of the genre so I'm still mixing both of them up.

I SUCK AT GAMES
[ * * * * * * * * * * ]
I'll just do ones from this year.

Dead Space Extraction; The first Dead Space was my favorite game of 2008, and when they announced that it was coming to the Wii I was really upset. I figured it was just EA trying to milk their new franchise with a throwaway game, but it ended up being a really awesome light gun shooter game. The graphics are fantastic, and the developers were able to keep that spooky vibe that the first Dead Space game had. They also made it a lot more story driven than the first Dead Space game which was a nice touch.

X-Men Origins Wolverine; The movie was garbage, and since movie tie-in games are usually trash I didn't expect much from this game. I was totally wrong! Turned out to be a really fun, and violent action adventure game with some great boss battles. Loved it!

SAW: The Video Game; I don't know I just like this game so far. Haven't beaten it yet, but I had no expectations for this game, but so far I really like the puzzles in it. The combat system is horrific, but they do a great job of capturing the vibe of the Saw films, and the graphics are pretty good too. I think only SAW fans will enjoy this game though since it's definitely not for everyone.

I wasn't expecting to like Assasins Creed as much as I do now, I thought it was gonna be a game that I could never get into but as soon as I decided to play it it all felt just so right, it was like I had been missing out on something important. The games not perfect of course, I hate the beggar ladies with a passion and i hate the people who randomly punch you even more. But I like it, which is the main thing.

Hitman Blood money: Yeah, contracts was ok. But nothing spectacular. Again, Blood Money looked good, but nothing spectacular. I was just blown away though, the storyline was emersive, really got me hooked. Good weapon usage and upgrades. Good stuff Eidos.

Airline Tycoon: Not many people probably know about this game :P. Really really good. Not that good graphics, can be picked up for £4 at a superstore. But still a really really well made simulator, really good fun.

Burnout Paradise: Big boots to fill from previous burnout games. Really honestly did not expect this. Great graphics. Fantastic cars and handling, and some great expansions.

1) Quantum of Solace- I picked this up for under £5 and wasn't expecting much however this game is a really fun game to just sit down and play. The storyline for me didnt get boring at all!

2) Xmen Origins: Wolverine- I actually borrowed this of someone and I'm so glad I did! I loved this game. The gameplay, graphics and storyline impressed me.

3) Call of Duty: Classic- Recently redeemed my free token for this game I got with the Hardened Edition of MW2 and I was suprised that this game is as fun as it actually is. The graphics arn't the greatest and neither is the storyline but this game started of one of the most played game series ever. It was also the last game I needed to play in order to have played all of the main Call of Duty games!

Quantum of Solace is another one that surprised me. Most of the Bond games released since Goldeneye 64 have been disposable, but I liked this one a lot. The gameplay is similar to the Call of Duty games, so I guess that's why I liked it. Less clunky controls = a better game overall.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii) - I went in not expecting much since I had been let down by Homecoming, but I was pleasantly surprised to see how original this game was. That being said I don't think it should have been a Silent Hill game, but a new horror series.

The Darkness (360) -I thought it looked like a game I might enjoy, but I didn't expect to love it nearly as much as I did.

Illbleed (Dreamcast) - I hated this game when I first started playing it, mainly because I went in thinking it was going to be a serious horror game with a deep story, but ended up being a parody of b-horror/teen slasher flicks. Once I realized that I ended up loving it.

Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands: It's the new Prince of Persia game and i didn't think i would like it because the last PoP game for this generation wasn't really that good. I didn't like the combat at all, but this game really felt like the other ones i have played for the playstation 2 that i love so much and i really enjoyed playing this one.

Batman Arkham Asylum: I have never been a big Batman fan, I always thought that Spiderman was more badass than him. But i took a shot when i bought this game and i had my doubts in the beginning and i thought i wouldn't like it at all, but it sure proved me wrong! I love this game even though im not really into Batman, it's really well done and im looking forward to Batman Arkham Asylum 2.

Metroid Prime: A friend of mine talked about this game all the time and said i would miss out on something good if i didn't buy it. So after like a month of him trying to convince me to buy it i finally did, and it was worth every penny! This is one of my favorite games of all time. Im ashamed to say that i had never even heard of the Metroid games before but this really opened up my interests for the other ones and im glad my friend convinced me to buy it because it is simply amazing!
