Nintendo has just announced this for Japan:
http://ds.ign.com/articles/103/1039028p1.html
Seems cool, but too soon. Why can't they just wait for the next gen DS? Why didn't they just put in the DSi to start with? They're obviously doing this in fear of the psp, but it just won't work for the ds. I can't believe nintendo is stupid enough to make a new model of an already improved model in the same year!

I've got 2 major concerns:
1.Two PSP size screens would make the system much larger, assuming that they keep the same basic design.
2.Assuming that they will be widescreen, how will they get the regular games on the system without stretching the image? Games are simply going to look worse.

I think that they will just have a black box around the outside for older games.

Oh Nintendo, why do you keep doing this, I'm all about the DS, but come on, the DSI already boasted on slightly increasing the screen size.
Especially on a dual screen system making them any bigger also compromises the battery life.

I have the same concerns as you Matt, I think Nintendo should just save their idea for their whole new handheld instead of making re-installments of the same system.
Especially so close after the release of the DSI.

I'm hoping this one is fake.

I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, but I was just looking online and it looks like Nintendo has (or will) release a new handheld console called the DSi LL in japan soon.

Just wondered if anyone had heard this and whether or not it was just a rumor. If it came out in the states would you buy it? Not really a question as to whether or not I should get it, I just thought I'd see what others had to say about it.

If this is the new DSi with much larger screens and such there is a topic about this already, I will combine them.

It's confirmed:

Glad to see the screens are still 4:3.

Looks nice(love the red color), but bigger screens and stylus, better battry life, and a cool color arn't enough for me to upgrade from my current black dsi.

EDIT: confirmed US and European release: http://gear.ign.com/articles/104/1040495p1.html

Here's some comparisons between DSi XL, Dsi, and DSlite:

Click the button in the bottom left hand corner to switch between DSi and DSlite.

Doesn't seem that drastic.

BETTER battery life? I've read that the LL has WORSE battery life than the DSi. :|

Anyway, I just used my Mac's magnification feature and held my DS Lite up to the screen of the on-site comparison thing to see how much bigger then LL's screen was than the DS Lite's.

While it does make the DS Lites screen seem almost pathetic in size, the LL is GIGANTIC, I'm seriously questioning how comfortable that will be to hold and see that it will be notably less portable than the DSi and DS Lite.

Also, if Nintendo were doing anything out of "fear" of the PSP they would have done it back in 2004. If this is in response to anything it's the fact that the DS market is virtually saturated in Japan (IE, nearly every man woman and child owns one) and the emergence of the iPod Touch as something resembling serious competition to the DS.
