I have just found out that my xbox 360 has decided to not power on for no reason whatsoever. I put it away to focus on school but after the paquiao/cotto fight I wanted to play some fight night round 4 for alittle bit so I tried hooking it back up. But it won't turn on. The Power Brick lights up orange, pressing the power button doesn't work, pressing the eject button doesn't work, and hooking up a wired controller and pressing the xbox home button doesn't work. Calling Microsoft only screwed me over since they told me I have to pay 119, just to fix it. I feel like smashing my 360 with a baseball bat in an open field, then stomping on its smashed guts till it turned into powder. But is it worth it to fix? I've kept it in perfect condition, never dropping it or abusing it or putting dirty games in the disc drive and it breaks for no reason. Should I just throw away my money and buy that way expensive Modern Warfare bundle pack? (This also happened a month after my 40gb ps3 broke on me after beating bioshock in 2 days. Right after I beat bioshock, I bought demon souls and nba 2k10 and after playing one online game of 2k10 and maybe 2 hours of demon souls the ps3 wouldn't read discs anymore so now I'm left with a bunch of games and two broken systems.) The great thing about the 360 isn't beating the games. It's showing everyone online that I did

What is up with generation of consoles and systems breaking? If you really want the Modern Warfare pack, then get that. |

If it is going to cost $119 to fix your 360 I say go buy a new one for $200. It is $80 more but you will have a brand spanking new one. Plus if your broken 360 is older you will be getting the newer chip-set as well. |

I guess its now a matter of which I should fix first, the ps3 or the 360. Buying a 360 arcade is probably alot better than fixing the old 360 or maybe even a used one from gamestop for 140 +tax. but if I transfer the harddrive will my xbla games still be playable? As for the ps3, the new mini looks good but I'm told a lens replacement is much less expensive but I question the durability of a new lens and right now reliability is a top priority. But then again price matters too so its a tough choice. Which would be better in the long run to replace first? And btw I have 3 super nintendos, 2 original, one mini. Snes is great, it just can't play fight night round 4. |

One of the reasons so many of the "next gen" consoles crap out is due to new laws being introduced banning the use of lead solder within some consumer products. Soldering points now have a higher chance of cracking, thus increasing problems. I believe this to be true, however please correct me if I'm wrong.

I read that somewhere as well. But I think the bigger reason is that all electronics (including game consoles) are not made to last as long as they used to be. For example, I still have my parent's stereo system from the 1970's and it still works perfectly, whereas something I bought 5 years ago has since crapped out. It's called "planned obsolescence" - your console is only made to last until the next system is released. Cheaper parts, rushed manufacturing, and buggy software are problems that affect most game consoles nowadays. The other problem is that a game console is no longer *just* a game console.; it's a media hub that is meant to do several different things. As is the case with cell phones, the core functionality suffers when other features are piled on. I pine for the days when all I needed to do was pop in a game and play! |

Actually its a funny story, since so much was put in the console they didn't have any space for the DVD player so they reduced the size of the cooling system and then the solder melted on some chip which led to the evil RROD which i've recieved twice in two years but luckily didn't pay a penny. I think thats the story. What i did when i got it was visit the 360 website and send them your xbox serial number and if the warranty is available, you send it over to them and you get it in about a week (Don't kbnow why you have to pay for it). |
