Today on one of Gamespot's YouTube videos "Today on the Spot", the news update section mentioned that Sony was planning on offering a premium PSN service to get premium content and features, but what we have now will remain free. Here is the video, Gamespot's Video

To see what I'm talking about, go to about 1:30 of the video.

I think this would be great and I will happily pay for those extra features, with the amount of time I spent on my PS3 a better experience will be welcomed with an open wallet. What do you guys think of this?

At least the current service will remain the same. I wonder what will be those extra offers? Cross-game chat? Party system?

If Sony are introducing a two tier system, will MS have to raise their game?
If a silver XBOX live account allowed you to play online, would people stick with their gold account?

I dont think Microsoft would change a thing. I hope that if Sony adds cross game chat or party chat it will be in the free current version as well because most of my friends probably wont pay for the service so it will render the features useless to me.

I think this is a great move for sony if they only charge for premium features.
I don't think they'd charge for all online interactions; that's one of their philosophies they express in ads and such.

as long as what they have now remains free then i guess i am fine with it, depending on what is offered for the paid service.
