Graphics don't make the game

Ds Games!

I've gotten to the point where I don't see good or bad graphics any more, just a graphical style that a game tries to take. If the game executes this style well, then in my mind the game looks great. A good example of this is the dark spire.

Graphics are important to me to an extent as I take all things into consideration when rating a game. For example, I am currently playing FFIX and I love the graphics for the most part. It is a 10 year old game and I am judging it based on a 10 year old view.

Now, if I am playing a modern game and the graphics look like they are from last gen I will complain and hold it against the game. There are some reasons that a game can have lower graphic quality such as being a huge populated open world game, but certain games just have plain bad graphics and it should be a category.

Some games chose to still use sprite based graphics in this era. Do I hold it against them? No I don't. As long as those sprites/world/environment of the game are using the new systems capability somewhat. If it looks like I am playing a snes game on a ps3 then there is something wrong as even sprites can be made to look nicer. Also, if someone is going to use sprite based graphics it would follow that we get a sprite based price because that shows that the game took a much smaller production budget and those savings should be passed onto the consumer.

I wish the Wii was in HD and had the power of a ps3/360, but it what it is. We even get a $10 discount on a new game. Also, if I am playing a Wii I judge the game on the Wii's hardware. To me the mario galaxy games graphics are absolutely amazing.

The sky shines gold,not blue.
