One of the things I've noticed is the lack of well read posters on the forum. No, it's not a crime, but I think reading is essential to the developed mind. I've been interested in this for a while, since I've read quite a lot, I would head the club.

What I'm Proposing is opening a thread in which we all read the same book, and after maybe two week time limit we come back and discuss what we've read. This will take dedication from posters, but the pay off it a more educated mind.

Each two weeks would be a new book we'd all read, and we can discuss as we read.

For those interested please post here and let me know. Know this though, I would not select walmart trash novels. It would clearly be classics of literature and novels met with critical success.

1. I was reading 400 page books in 5th grade. A lot of kids are with Harry Potter out.

2. Libraries carry all forms of media. All books listed would be covered.

I would be possibly interested after i finish this series of books, which may be a couple years from now lol... I don't, but it would have to stay to the sci-fi/fantasy realm i think.

I agree because most non-fiction novels could appeal to some people, but easily turn away many others.

The books will be strictly fiction, but for the most part not science fiction.

The whole idea of the book club would be to expand your horizons. What would be the point of sticking to only science fiction.

We would read novels like Albert Camus' The Stranger, J.R. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, Cormac McCarthy's The Road, and Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes(which by the way is Sci Fi).

If you don't want to improve your intellegence, expand your taste in reading, grow to know the world and yourself better through fiction, let me know now.

If you would like to follow me down a path of literary excellence, then let me know.

Well, I read my science fiction and fantasy, and a whole slew of science related non fiction, like Hawking, Brian Greene, and George Smoot, but the latter don't really lend themselves to book clubs... Anyway, since I'm midway through the series, I wouldn't be opposed to reading some new material provided it was easy to find.

I'm not opposed to science fiction mind you, some of the books will be science fiction, some wont.

Personally no because it would make sense to do this kind of stuff on a website or forum specifically made for reading rather than a forum directed towards gaming. I doubt that some people here would be dedicated to buying books and the number of those who would post.
Don't let me stop you. I wouldn't mind if this went ahead because knowledge is power!

I'm glad to see people are jumping on board!

Keep in mind people, you don't have to buy books, the library has them for free. If the library closet to you don't have it, you can put it on hold, and they will ship it from another library.

This is a good idea, though it will be hard to organize everyone to read the same book since many individuals have different taste, especially when it comes to a board spectrum like literature. If you're picking books, you may pick something that someone else has no interest in reading.

Although it could turn into a situation where they end up reading something they normally wouldn't and greatly enjoy it.

I would be up for it, but I can be rather picky with my books, and enjoy more books based on real life experiences and occurrences.

I also wish I had more time in order to complete books at a quicker pace.

Well I was thinking that We'll read one book a month. If we start with short books around 200 pages, then it will be a breeze.

Even if it isn't a book that interests you, I'd say why not give it a try? You may find you like it quite a bit, and why not expand your mind?

It's definitely interesting, though the nearest library is quite hard for me to get to, and in a pretty bad area of town. Wouldn't be too bad if I had a car, otherwise by bus it's quite the adventure, a dangerous one at that

There isn't even an easy accessible book store around where I live, the one that was the closest to get to shut down due to bankruptcy of the company, I was actually pretty pissed, now I have to order books online instead of being able to browse them in the store.

I'd be interested in trying this out. I love reading books, as long as they aren't focused on a love story. I'm sorry, but I just can't stand those.
