Anime's you can reccommend?

I Like Games.

I know you are really into Macross, but I was wondering if you could give some reccommendations on some of your favorite anime series? I prefer shows that clock in at under 30 episodes (so that way I have a chance of finishing the series), I also love feature length films that have no connection to any pre-existing series.

Not HCG but...If your have never seen Bleach...it is a freaking awesome Anime Pete. I usually don't get into anime too much. But Bleach and Inuyasha are the best two I have seen.

I have an extremely low tolerance for anime, it's all about dudes with magic powers and/or huge swords shouting catchphrases at each other, or girls with insanely annoying nasally high pitched voices shrieking...

However. Cowboy Bebop. Clocks in at 26 episodes long, and one feature film, 'Knocking on Heavens Door'. Bebop shrugs off all the stereotypical anime shackles, and just does it's own thing. Not only are the characters amazing, but the soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal. I still have the full OST on my ipod to this very day.

Anyone that claims to have an interest in anime beyond the Disney / Ghibli films needs to watch Cowboy Bebop.

That is certainly the case with most of the modern anime, to be sure, but in the past anime was praised for being creative and original. For those who (like myself) loved cowboy bebop, here are some other, older anime series you might like:

Tylor, the irresponisble Captain
Record of Lodoss War
Trigun <-----previously mentioned, but so good it's worth mentioning twice
Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket
Galaxy Express 999
Serial Experiment Lain
Blue Submarine #6
Ah Megamisama (Oh! My Goddess)
Outlaw Star

Outlaw Star has got one of the most kick ass intros of all time. I didn't like the anime, but the intro was top notch.

Trigun... I enjoyed the first few eps, but never finished it. One I'll have to revisit. But first, gotta listen to Outlaw Star intro again.... :D

Naruto is most definitely not a under 30 episode anime, even though most of it can be skipped.

Dug up some of my old anime to add my opinion :)

Cowboy bebop is really up there, anyone would pretty much recommend it.

Princess Mononoke (I believe that's how you spell it), is a movie and made by Hayao Miyazaki. He's pretty legendary when it comes to anime movies, I recommend it.

Ghost in a Shell is highly rated, I recommend as well. Made by Masamune Shirow, just a well made psychological detective anime in general.

Samurai Champloo is from the same creator as Cowboy Bebop I believe but has a hip-hop/samurai genre (if that is a genre). Made much more recent than cowboy bebop, but still a well done series from what I have watched.

3 x 3 Eyes is a horror anime, very short series (4 episodes?) but very long episodes 1 hour each at least. If your into horror, its a very well made older series.

.Hack//sign which is a psychological anime based off of the video game (not sure if it really ties in with the story of the game, never played). Not very action packed but still excited, especially if you like both games and anime.

All the series clocked lower than 30 episodes (Ghost in a shell maybe an exception), glad to offer my help.

Death Note!!!!!!! By far is my favourite anime of all time! Incredible visuals, brilliant voice acting (the english dub is one of the best dubbed anime EVER), really intriguing characters and of course a fantastic story line which keeps you guessing for a long time! Try the manga series too XD

I could not agree more with either Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo or Death Note.

All great action-packed shows with an intelligent story/setting.

Highly recommended out of the thousands of anime shows available!

If I remember correctly, Death Note only has about 30 episodes, but you've probably seen those. Have you ever heard of Niea Under 7? If you haven't give it a try, it's a really nice light hearted anime series about aliens living here on earth and becoming victims of discrimination. If you're into cyberpunk, Ergo Proxy is a really good one. Serial Experiment Laine is another cyberpunk anime but it's kinda hard to follow. Higarushi no naku koro ni Kai is a perfect horror/mystery anime as well, God I love that anime.

I'm also sick of the 1,000,000 episode long series like Naruto. Not to mention, I lose just a little bit of manhood every time I sit through one of these shows, lol.

However, I'll second Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Death Note. I feel they're a bit more mature (and they're all 26-52 episodes in length).

I would have to agree perfectly. I don't really watch anime but Bebop and Shamploo are two that I have seen and always recommend.

I personally really like Satoshi Kon's work. His movies include Tokyo Godfathers, Millennium Actress, Paprika, and Perfect Blue. The only anime series he's done is Paranoia Agent, which I think has ...24 episodes. I can't remember, but its twenty something episodes long.

My two favorite anime shows ever are Cowboy Bebop and Gungrave. Both are 26 episodes. Most people have seen CB, but many have never seen Gungrave. Gungrave came out in 2006 I believe and is soo underrated, everyone should check it out if you played either of the games and liked them (although the anime is WAY better), you like CB, outlaw star, or just good crime/drama/mafia type stories.

Samurai Champloo is also very well done, great show but I did not feel as connected to the characters as in Cowboy Bebop. I thought the story lacked some of the magic that great animes have, maybe because the main plot was a little bit too simple and predictable, but the show is still really good.

I would recommend:
Death Note
Trigun
Chrno Crusade
Full Metal Alchemist
I know Full Metal Alchemist is longer then 30 episodes, but it's worth watching.

also, if you like anime on the more serious tone, or anime with philosophical/spiritual messages, there's a newer-ish show called Mushi-shi that I think is pretty good. It's 26 episodes. Very smooth animation and great style to this one.

The World Looks So Damn Beautiful
One of my favorite animes (though ive yet to finish the series because I dont want it to end...) is Chobits. Its a story about a guy who find a "persocom" (essentially a PC that looks like an android and has AI) and him trying to teach it about the world and it failing to understand concepts that we find simple, as well as a story about her trying to understand what exactly love is. Its incredibly sweet and quite funny. Its about 24 episodes at ~20 minutes each.
And although its not technically anime (conceived/written/voice-acted in America and animated in Korea) its got the same heart and its "Avatar: The Last Airbender" which is the story of a young kid who is tasked with keeping balance between the different nations (each with an assigned element to wield like fire and water) as well as having to master each of the elemants. Its got some great action, funny characters and (especially for a kids show) it poses some interesting questions though because its a kid show it tends to answer them slightly too quickly for my tastes.
