Gamestop and EB Games are in it to make money and their shady practices and price gouging should come as a surprise to nobody. It's a good store for people who don't like to shop around or who don't care about the condition of the games they buy; it's quick and convenient. I don't hate Gamestop personally, but I make the choice not to shop there. Better options for both quality and price exist where I live, so I have no incentive to buy anything from or trade anything to Gamestop. I will not pay full price for a game that's been opened and adorned with stickers, nor will I buy a used game for a paltry $5 discount when I can get a $20 to $30 discount elsewhere. |

I recently started work at EB, and I know just how stupid the company is, I even say it to my co workers, it's not the people who are working in the store that are shifty. It's really the head office people that are a bunch of jerks, all my co workers agree with me just how stupid some of the practices are. They make no sense, they really are in it to make money, they don't care how. |

EB games works as a double edged sword. I under no circumstances whatsoever will ever buy a second hand game at EB games just because I'm a little anal retentive about the quality of my product. As Richard has said, the majority of my business with EB games deals with getting pre-order bonuses over brand new releases. Not necessarily all EB game stores are bad. I do have one store that I like to go to in which I'm really good friend with the manager and the majority of the staff. He knows that I collect anime style games. Unfortunately if the anime style game is not a popular title, they'll be lucky if they get three to four of that specific game. Even though he is not allowed to do this, he'll always have one copy factory sealed and he'll hold onto it for me which I'm really grateful for because for most games that don't have a lot of copies they're usually taken out of their shrink wrap and put on the shelf. I have been ripped off from EB games before buying games that were shrink wrapped under the impression they were mint, in which they were not. It has only happened twice, but things like that are bound to happen. If your so picky about your games being factory sealed, I always like to go to Wal-mart because pretty much every game in their glass case or bargain bin is factory sealed so I have no problems doing some of my game shopping there. I do buy second hand games, but I stick to my flea market seller, that understands the high standards I have for my gaming. The majority of games I get from him are either very good to near mint. There is also a great little store called Games X-Change that goes above and beyond to make sure I get a used game in the best possible condition. My biggest problem with EB games, even though the staff at my favorite EB games in town is good at it. Is their ignorance when it comes to selling M rated games to minors. I've seen some staff not even bother to tell the parents or talk to the kid about what consists in the game and that really pisses me off. I have no right to tell a parent how to raise their kid, but to you as a representative of the company, you have an obligation to let the parent know what they're buying. If the parent is ok with it, then fine, but they still should have a right to now the kind of game their kid wants. I've seen sales reps just push the purchase but the staff at my local eb games is really good about letting parents know what they're buying for their kids. |
