I was thinking of getting a 2D side-scrolling shooter, i really love them. Does anyone know a good one for one of those consoles? : Wii Ds Ps2 I'm looking for something like Contra, Megaman. I love Hard Games (not too hard, if possible). I absolutely like games where i have to use strategy. Thanks a lot! |

Metal Slug 7 for the DS would be my first choice, you can never go wrong with a Metal Slug game. |

I was just going to say Metal Slug 7 as well for the DS, the metal slug games are fantastic, the animation is great, and it's really fun! There are a lot of little things to the games like the types of enemies you face, camels with guns that you ride that will make you laugh. Solid side scrolling shooter. |

The Metal Slug series seems to be the gold standard for side-scrolling, balls-to-the-wall shooters. For the PS2, the Metal Slug Anthology is a god choice because it contains many games in the series, and it is also available on the Wii. If you want something faster, the original Metal Slug for Neo-Geo is available for download on the Virtual Console. |

Everyone has covered the obvious choice for the Metal Slug Series....and rightfully so....however another good choice for a 2d side scrolling Shooter/Shmup is the Air Zonk series from the PC Engine/Turbografx16. You can download these from the VC onto your Wii.

Im going by what i can see available For VC in pal region, just cause its my region. Alien soldier...possibly one of the megadrives/genesis' best games. Alien solder playthrough (MD/Gen) Gunstar heroes...best in two player mode. Gunstar heroes playthrough Mega Turrican(turrican 3), port of amazing amiga action. Mega turrican intro and playthrough I think them with the awesome metal slug back catalogue could keep you busy for a long time.

Some Questions: 1. Is Metal Slug for the PS2 playable in Two? 2. Is it more confortable to play these games with a Wii Remote Controller or with the PS2 Controller? 3. One really awesome one I found was Life Force for the NES, but you can get it on VC. It's really hard but you can use the 30 lives code at first!

If you can play PS1 imports on your PS2, I highly recommend GUNNERS HEAVEN. It reminds me a lot of Gunstar Heroes, in fact its so much like Gunstar Heroes you would think it was a sequel. This game is nothing less than EPIC and why it didn't get a North American port is beyond me. The only bad thing I can say about the game is its lacking a 2 player mode. This was one of the very first PS1 games released but looking at the graphics you wouldn't know this, they even hold up very well by today's standards. If you like the Metal Slug series or Gunstar Heroes this is a must play game! You can get the game off ebay for under $20 US. Edited by majinpowers, Mar 25 2010, 02:54 AM.
