Recently I've noticed that I put on a few pounds, currently I weigh 190 LBS. My goal is to get down to around 155-165 LBS by September 2010 in time for grade 11. My plan is to cut out drinking pop (soda for the US, not sure about anywhere else), cut out all sweets (chocolate, candy), and run on the treadmill for at minimum half an hour a day. I also plan on cutting out my time sitting down and playing video games. I want to slim down and start building a bit more muscle and with taking the weight training course this year I think it will really help.

Now, this thread is NOT for people to be criticized, don't come here and make fun of other people. One GOOD thing to do is to give support and try to give them some tips and share the knowledge you have.

UPDATE:

I want to start this up again. Over the summer I became very lazy and didn't do very much of anything other than work. Now, with school starting soon, I want to get back on track with losing weight. I am going to be running for at least half an hour every day and have been for about a week now, I gotta say, it feels great. Being more active and eating healthier has made me more energetic and I overall feel a lot better. I may occasionally post on here if I remember to and just state how things are going. Hopefully this will inspire people to get in shape and get healthy.

I too looked at the scale and realized I needed to lose weight.

Currently I'm at 225 pounds and I want to get down past 180 by the beginning of the next school year. I don't want to start out 11th grade the way I am now. I used to weigh around 240 but I cut out all soda out of my diet. I only drink water, green tea, milk (I recently went from 2%, to skim.), and sometimes Gatorade. I have been between 220-230 for about a year now. Food is where I have the most problem. I don't eat very often. Usually 2-3 times a day. When I do though, I eat a whole lot. Way more than I should be. I really want to start lowering my portions, and eat healthier. Once in a while I would have a burger or something, but I need to cut that out as of now.

I want to start walking to and from school. I usually get a ride but my school is only 4 block from my house and it seems really lazy of me to just get a ride. I have been playing my drums a lot more and that's really like a workout when you think of it. Then I want to walk in the evenings. Probably to my school and back. That way I can get a good distance in for that day. This should give me ample time in the evening to do homework, and do a bit of gaming.

Now during the summer I'm going to be getting up early and walk for am hour or so. Then play drums a good bit, then I have the day to myself to game, and whatever else I want to do.

I'm probably around the 140-50lb mark, so I'm good. But here's diet tip to follow. First of all, whenever you eat something (candy bars, fastfood) always check the calorie count first. Don't eat anything that has over 400 calories in it, and try to only consume no more than 2000 calories a day. Running is the best way to lose weight, along with proper diet. Try to run 20 minutes, 3 times a week, just to keep your body sweating. Avoid fastfoods as much as possible, they might have good food but they also have high calorie counts. Try to eat fruits and vegetable as much as possible. Avoid soda, those things won't do any good for you. Drink V-8 or Fuze instead.

Here's also another diet plan that is very popular amongst Japanese people and from what I heard, it works very well, although I never really tried it personally. Only consume Bananas for breakfast, eat as many banana as you can, that's all, only for breakfast. Then you can eat like you normally would for lunch and dinner. Give it a try and see for yourself.

These aren't the droids we're looking for.

Soda was incredibly hard for me to quit. I went from drinking a full sized bottle or more of Coke a day, to drinking water with Crystal Lite in it; after awhile I got lazy and stopped using Crystal Lite. That was 5 years ago this past February, and I haven't drank soda since. All water these days. After the initial crash (during my soda days I would regularly stay up for 2-3 days without sleep), my body got used to not having all of that caffeine in my system. As much as I miss the taste of my favorite sodas, I don't regret quitting.

I don't particularly need to lose weight, but I have been interested in getting into shape. I've started doing 20 push-ups when I wake up, and I can feel a difference in the way I feel during the day. This week I'm going to start walking again (I used to walk a ton in 2008-2009; 3-6 miles a day, 3 days a week). Weather permitting, I'll probably start tomorrow. I might start going to the gym as well.

Good luck to everyone and all of their health-related endeavors!

I am currently in the 235 lbs range, which is overweight for my height, even though I am tall and I have a bulkier build. I eat pretty well and I get in a lot of walking, but I've always been a bigger guy. I would love to get down to around 200 lbs, so perhaps I will set that as a goal for myself.

Haha what a great idea, it's great to start up some goals, and you feel more motivated if you can get on board with other people and make it more of a group effort! It makes it less easy to get lazy because you feel more obligated in keeping the ball rolling!

I would get into this, but I'm so teeny as it is, I eat probably more than many of you do in your daily life and don't gain anything. I actually can't afford to lose any weight!

Good luck to all of you guys joining, I would recommend that even if you don't post them here, take before pictures, and take an after picture every week until you reach your goal and see what the end results are!

Whatever you do. Take pictures of yourself right now. Clear pictures of just you, infront of a camera. It makes the comparison amazing. This is something I regret not doing!

I got up to 225 Pounds, which is something I truly regret not recording. I'm now right down to 155, and it took me a little over a year, I'll share some tips that helped me. But with all things, this is my preference, what works for you might be completely different!

Diet - Do not cut out the things you love. I eat like a caveman for 6 days a week, and on the 7th day, I eat like a pig. My caveman diet starts with steak for breakfast, nuts and fruit all the way through the day. A tuna or chicken salad for breakfast, and then usually a vegetarian option for main meal in the evening. Throughout I am eating nuts, fruit and various vegs.

Avoid cereals, grains, bread, any of that. Have all your carbohydrates through your vegetables.

Exercise - Find an exercise you enjoy, and stick with it. If you're anything like I was, you can't through yourself into running. If you have the opportunity to go down the gym, do it. Start cycling, Cross Ramp Trainer, Versa-Climber, start off easy, set yourself goals - smash those goals and then set yourself some fresh new goals.

When I started, I couldn't run for 30 seconds. I started on the cycle bikes, rowing, versa climber, for a few months, then started running. I've recently done a half marathon, and I aim to start training for a full marathon fairly soon.

Mentality - The physical act of losing weight is f***ing easy. It's mentally that you'll struggle. You've identified that you want to change, now is the hard part. Putting the wheels in motion, and then STICKING with it.

Plan your work.
Work your plan.

I really like seeing overweight people join the gym, sticking with it, and the change unravelling before our eyes. It's amazing. I do not like the fatties that turn up, stink to high heaven, and then disappear after a few half arsed sessions ;(

Just remember, your body doesn't want to be overweight, just by changing a few things like you mentioned ie:- no soda, you've already ditched alot of weight. Help your body, to help you ;)

Just on a closing note: Do not look for a quick fix. They rarely work, and when they do, the side effects are nasty.

Acai Berries? Bunch of bullshit.

Alli - Kinda works, exercise is better. And exercise doesn't make you drop your ass in a liquidy pile in the middle of walmart. :|

If you wanna know more about my experiences, lemme know :) I got a 'now' picture I like showing the ladies. :D I just wished I had a 'before' picture to compare it to. :(

260... i was at 285, and lost down to 240... I'm 6'3", and would like to be right around 200... Watching portion size, and eating chicken, vegetables, and cutting out alcohol, and sodas helped me go from 285 to 240... Beer helped me get back to 260... Learning to count calories, and watching sodium and fat also helped me loose the initial weight. Too bad i fell off the lifestyle(it's not really a diet to just watch what and when you eat).

180 currently, was about 195 a couple months ago, diet and regular exercise will do wonders. If possible, drink water as much as possible as opposed to sports drinks or soda even if they're zero calories. Water doesn't have the extra sugar and ingredients so it's the best alternative although skim milk is great too. Adding fruits and vegetables to your diet and sticking to lean meat like chicken (no skin!) helps too.

Exercise can be tough because, well, it IS tough. If you don't know what to do, start jogging but if you don't like that find some other cardio you like. Make sure you do it regularly and ramp up the difficulty/length after a while so you're progressing rather than becoming comfortable.

If you're lifting weights in addition to cardio, don't be put off by the numbers on the scale not disappearing fast. You're building muscle and losing fat, so the actual weight might not be less, but you're losing the extra fat which is what matters.

If you need to gain weight then you would need to consume lots and lots of protein and lift weights. No Cardio. Eat tuna, chicken, eggs, steak, protein bars and drink protein shakes. Any and all protein you can get your hands on. Then lift heavy weights with medium reps to max (6-8 reps for 3 sets 3-4 times a week... and not too heavy...don't hurt yourself)

I have severe problems with my blood sugar that cause me to have rapid weight gain and loss because of the extreme diets I must force myself into. I generally stay in the 130-140 weight range, and I'm 6 foot 2. So I'm really tall, really skinny, and I tend to be unhealthy at all times. I can't build muscle because of this...but can we possible make this a "Healthy Lifestyle" club instead of a weight loss club? Just curious...haha.

I really need to get a new scale, because currently there is no scales to be seen. Last I checked I was 120 Ib. which I am pretty sure is about average for my age. I would like to lose a few pounds, but it is not crucial at this point. If I can maintain this size until grade 8, I will be alright.

If you're under 18, don't worry about weight. You get an automatic pass. ;P
You got exams and the other modern day stresses of growing up + a changing body, weight isn't an issue.

18+ no excuse :P
