Yup. They're doing this thing where once you popped in your game to a system, it will register a code online that will only make the game playable on that specific system.

Oh wow, boycott time. This is ridiculous look if I think a game is worth it i'll pay full price but other wise I buy it used. I really wish they could understand I don't have a freaking money tree I can't pay 60 for all these games.

While I agree this is very bad for the customer I wonder why there was little to no reaction when Sony did the same thing with SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3 on PSP.

"it will register a code online that will only make the game playable on that specific system.
The article says only online features will be affected.
But still this is terrible.

Typical EA :/ Good thing i'm already not feeding their juggernaut-wallet any of it's soul-less fuel, but if this catches on, the gaming community is headed towards a large downward spiral.

there are veeeeeeeeeeeery few games now-a-days that are actually worth mentioning anyways, so I hope the industry crashes horribly and comes back better then ever a few years later.

Just like the Hollywood strike... hehe

I don't think so because although EA is part of the mainstream gaming community but it isn't part of our community of hard core collectors. I mean what games are EA creating or even have created that aren't some sport related dumb game. I mean don't get me wrong they have created a decent number of classics but not enough to hold firm with me. It's just a dumb decision by an even dumber company.

Back in the Playstation1 days they were my favorite company, with titles like Future Cop and such...
Now they suck. Like pretty much anything not nintendo

Ds Games!

I had a feeling EA was going this way when I read that downloadable maps were free in bad company 2 for anyone that bought the game new, and anyone that bought it used had to purchase them. That alone didn't bother me much being that I was going to get the game new and there are few games from EA I enjoy, but this seems to be taking it a step too far.

Well of course they don't want you to buy used games since they make no profit off of it.

I'm just glad I don't really buy EA Sports games too often or this would really suck. I got Madden 2010 so I'm good with football games for the next 2-3 years, and the only other sports title they have that I'm interested in is EA MMA which I'll probably buy new anyway.

Actually quite frankly the only title I really have to play online that EA has is Battlefield (maybe the new Medal of Honor game too) so if they do something similar with that franchise then I'll be angry over it.

That is good o'l Electronic Aggravation for ya! I understand why they dont want customers buying up the used games from gamestop. but what about people who want to resell there games? or collectors for that matter? It is absolutely stupid to put those kinds of limitations on gamers. I NEVER buy a game with ANY kind of DRM. Spore was stupid, 3 installs for a 50 dollar game? No thanks. The only thing that EA is doing is making people who actually BUY their garbadge DRM BS suffer, people who Pirate don't have to deal with the BS. All I can say is WTF are you doing EA? You want People to Pirate your games and NOT buy them? geez they are hitting an all time low with this one.

This isn't a surprising move considering big companies like EA probably lose more money from second hand game sales then to pirating.

This seems like a bit of a drastic move.

Out of all games I own, EA titles make up a tiny fraction of them, so I won't lose any sleep over not buying their games anymore. This is typical of corporate greed getting in the way of consumers enjoying a product. I rarely spend full price on a game, preferring to buy it used, so this would totally screw me if there was a particular title I wanted.

If other game developers decide to follow suit, the gaming world as we know it is over!

well, one thing people forgot to mention:
Aren't current gen consoles very prone to breaking? So every other month when your Xbox RRoD's you'll have to buy all EA games brand new as well?

What a load of !@#$...

I hate current gen, I hope they all go bankrupt so we don't have to deal with un-tested-, underdeveloped-, gimmick driven-, !@#$ty games anymore.

So, what happens if I want to bring a game to a friends? Basically a game becomes worthless once it is used to anyone, but yourself?

Great...I actually thought the day 1 downloadable content idea was fair and a descent strategy(free for new game), but this is going way too far.

This will be terrible if it makes it to games such as Dead Space 2 and Mass Effect 3. I dislike EA's attempt at making used gaming a thing of the past.

Maybe this move will give a bit more love to the digital downloads which is only tied to your accounts and not the console (at least on the PS3).

The 2nd hand popular retail market is relatively new for software, I don't like it, but I can understand why EA have done this and I can't say I blame them.

Would you pirate a game instead?

By that logic...

Can I buy your games new @ launch WITHOUT online functionality then please EA? At a reduced price of course. I never play my games online, so why should I be charged for something I never use?

Hell. This is ontop of the £5 a month I'm paying for XBL. Which I rarely use ;/

Slapping restrictions to a game like this is not right, you are buying the license to use the software on that CD. if you choose to sell the license you should be able to do so. I don't rent games for 60 bucks, not going to happen. If I walk into the store and buy the disk version of a game, its because of the possibility of re-sale or for collecting purposes. These things in place only hurt the consumers who actually pay for the product, plain and simple. If EA needs to make more money, then they should put a little more time into good titles instead of pumping out crappy sports games over and over and over.

True.

Just offer a bonus for buying a game new rather than creating a penalty for not. More positives=a happy consumer.

Yeah this is EA hurting the hardcore gamer in their time of need, which is simply perverse. I can't imagine them doing too terribly though, with the every single frat-boy dollar pumped into the new Madden...
