Pre-Ordering Games

There was a time a few years back where I feel into the trap of Gamestop employees and pre-ordered a game everytime I walked into the store. They always made it seem like there wasn't going to be enough copies for the demand, but the truth of the matter is that there usually is always enough (at least for the high profile games).

Over the years pre-ordering has changed and I have found myself doing more pre-ordering than ever. Now it's just not about making sure you have your copy of the game but there are also swag or unlockables that you can receive if you put your money down. I think the best pre-order bonus is definitely the $10/$20 credit off your next purchase!!!

While I don't believe that all pre-order bonuses are worth it(exclusive weapons, armor) I still do like the fact of getting something back in return. So.....Do you guys pre-order your games, and if so do you think it's worth it?

I use to not pre-order, but with Amazon tacking 10-20 dollars credit to your account for almost every game, its hard not to.

For this month already I'm getting 50 bucks back in credit to use towards video games on that site. 20$ for Red Dead Redemption, $10 for Alan Wake, and $20 for Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I usually only pre order my games if I am getting the special edition of the game. That way I am guaranteed a copy of that edition. Other than that I usually wait a month for any game I want that didn't have a limited edition.

I don't preorder that many games, last game I preordered was Dante's Inferno because you got a 9" (I think) Dante Figure. I got it a day before release so I was happy :D I'll probably pre-order the Fallout New Vegas Collectors Edition though!

I pre-ordered Street Fighter 4 Collectors Edition, Mass Effect 2 and Lost Planet 2. Those games I'll be playing years down the line like I'll still play Mario. For other games I usually wait for the price to go down. Lately it seems that if you wait a few month they'll move stock just to break the black tape for the quarter.

Bayonetta, Halo 3: ODST, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Assassin's Creed 2 are prime examples of that. So I try to make my dollar stretch so I can encumber new PS2 games off amazon.

Might also have to preorder Singularity for end of June. Amazon giving it the $20 dollar gift card treatment but also the first print of the game comes with a code to send off for a free copy of Prototype, at least this is for 360's edition, not sure about the others.

A free Prototype only seems to apply to 360 versions of Singularity. 20 dollars off next game purchase is for both. I might have moved on that if it was for the PS3.

depends on the game and now after pre-ordering Heavy Rain and Final Fantasy XIII and having those games be more useful in buying next gen systems...I'm going to be more careful!

Basically I usually try to pre-order a game that I KNOW I will still have and want to play after a month but those games are seriously getting harder and harder for me to find right now. I find myself play more retro games rather than pre-ordering cos well right now its one of those "its not worth it anymore" things.

funniest case for me recently was when I was in EBGames(and Dani hasn't been there..life sucks!) the guy there was asking me if I wanted to pre-order DQ IX and I told him I could get the same game for the same price with the "Ultimate Hits" designation on it from an import store with it already being out!

in short I do pre-order games but I'm going to be more picky from now on!

I'm going to stop pre-ordering as much from Gamestop. I just pre-ordered the Alan Wake Collectors Edition, Split/Second, and Red Dead Redemption from there a few weeks back and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get the pre-order bonuses that come with them. They definitely aren't consistent with giving out those bonuses.

Amazon, on the other hand, has been rocking and rolling with their pre-orders. They're going to be getting more of my business

These aren't the droids we're looking for.

I've never pre-ordered anything in my life =/ I've never been to a GameStop or anything, and the closest to buying a game on launch day was Pokemon SoulSilver and HeartGold. When I get a job I'll definitely do some pre-ordering though, especially for the bonuses and stuff. Let's face it though - how many games a year are completely and utterly sold out on launch day? It's the bonuses that everyone is interested in :P I'm still not sure how I feel about places offering in-game bonuses; I'd be more interested in physical stuff.

I don't pre-order games because I like to seek out the best price and not be locked into getting the game from one specific place. I think game stores exaggerate the supply and demand of a game and will strong-arm you into pre-ordering from them based on the supposition that the game will sell out quickly.

The truth is that all games I wanted to pick up on the first day, even the highest profile titles, were readily available and in ample supply. I think these game stores want to prey on your need to play a particular title right away and approach you with the "pre-order it from us or you're screwed for getting it" mentality. It's total BS in my opinion.

If you pre-order in store they print the code on the receipt now. You have to activate them through Live! redeem code or PSN store redeem code. At least that is how it worked for Lost Planet 2 that I pre-ordered and picked up day 1.

You don't even have to pick it up for months as a buddy of mine who works at gamestop told me and so did the manager of our bodega gamestop. As long as you have a driver's license (in florida) or telephone tied to your pre-order the system reserves a code from a block for your purchase and will print on the eventual pickup even 6 months down the road.

Ds Games!

I usually only pre order for large scale multiplayer releases like Super Street Fighter 4 or Battlefield Bad Company 2. Everything else I try to buy used or on sale as I buy a ton of ds games.

I've never pre-orderd anything. I was in there a few months ago and I was talking to my friend about getting New Super Mario bros. for the Wii and this girl that worked there said "you better pre-order the game becuase you might not get one". I said "no thanks I can just get it the day it comes out", but she kept on with this for about 5 minutes as I was in the store and finally I told her to leave me alone and she acted all snobby about it. I haven't been in there since. I hate Gamestop.

I ended up buying the game at GameExchange the day it came out. Those b***** at Gamestop will tell you anything to get you to pre-order something.

I have actually never pre-ordered a game.

Before I worked at Gamestop, there were a few times that I wished I had, just to get the cool swag, but now I just take whatever extras are left over.

In addition, the only game that my particular store has run out of since I've been there has been Red Dead Redemption (every day since it has been out we've gotten new shipment of it, and every single day -- including today -- we have sold out long before the store closes).

I don't usually preorder, but I decided to this time to with Red Dead Redemption because of the $20 gift certificate back. Since that pretty much makes the game $40, I figured it was a good deal.

I pre-order and buy all my new games from Amazon anymore. I try and only go to EB like once a month just to check out the used games.

On a side note its getting harder and harder to beat Amazon on prices plus all the bonuses and cash back rewards you get from them.

I usually pre-order from Amazon since they seem to have good deals. Got 2 $20 dollar gift cards for buying Red Dead Redemption, and Mario Galaxy 2 which knocked UFC Undisputed 2010 down to about 23 bucks!

Sometimes, like if it's a game I'm really looking forward too I will. I was going to ask for Fallout New Vegas for Christmas but since you get something for pre-ordering it I might as well. I'm gonna get the collectors edition for it as well, like I did for Fallout 3.

A couple of days ago I preordered the Limited Collectors Edition for Halo Reach. I've decided I'm either going to preorder Fable 3 or Assassins Creed Brotherhood. Not 100% sure which one I'm going to go for.

I almost exclusively pre-order from Amazon. There are exceptions, such as official sites such as Capcom's own that are well worth pre-ordering from, but like Steph mentioned, the $10/20 credits that Amazon often offers are a huge incentive for me to do this, as are many of the other pre-order bonuses they offer which include exclusive items, characters, etc. I also really like the pre-order price guarantee and free shipping that they offer, not to mention the ease of the process and the fact that they generally have their act together.

Gamestop constantly rubs me the wrong way (and too many ways to coutn) so unless there's just a crazy pre-order bonus that I'd rather not do without that is exclusive to Gamestop (most recently the Slime Plush for pre-ordering DQVI), I avoid pre-ordering there, and even then I use the online pre-order function directly to my door.

I don't really pre-order, but when I do, I usually pay off my game entirely in advance. I know I'll definitely be pre-ordering The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Mass Effect 3, both on Xbox 360. I also have Gamefly as well, so the game must be a MUST HAVE for me to even think about buying it.
