I know Pete has talked about this sometime before, but I dunno if there is a Thread about it.

The game looks great, but I was wondering just who exactly is behind Watermelon games, and how many people. How long has it taken them, and when will it be released?

:D

I know it started a small group but many are helping out with translations and such and its taken a damn long time, i pre ordered mine a year and a half ago and they are still doin the Japanese translation and fixing the bugs that crop up when using various systems.

Prob still be a while yet.

Yep, been waiting a LOOOOOOOONNNGGG time for this haha.

Theres no confirmed release as of yet but i just keep up to date every couple of weeks here: http://www.piersolar.com/pier-solar-news.php

Im a bit pissed its taking so long but im glad they really are making an effort to make sure its perfect...if its buggy the chances of them being able to recall them and send out fixed versions would be pretty slim i bet.

If this werent a brand new, old sega console game though, then i reckon i would have asked for my money back ages ago.

Sega Does What Nintendon't

I just got a e-mail yesterday (August 23rd) confirming my shipping address for Pier Solar saying the shipping date was approaching, so maybe the wait is close to being over!

It's probably at least a couple months away as they are still looking for people to proof read and still doing more bug testing. It is drawing near however!

Hmm Sounds pretty interesting but I'm not sure that they will be willing to ship out to me. Still I'll give it a shot because I missed out on Beggar Prince a few years ago.

Edit: It appears that they are totally sold out.

Just read the most recent news. Pretty much they removed the JP text because they could not find a good translator. Therefore the JP releases will be in English.

Also the bug testing has gone well and they are just fine tuning the difficulty level and testing the cart on all hardware and consoles that will play Genesis/Megadrive carts.

I received my shipping email as well in August so hopefully with the latest news coming from September maybe we can finally get Pier Solar by January 2011. :)

The more recent screenshots for the game look amazing....my biggest concern is that the game may become unbalanced, as in either too hard or too easy. I imagine striking a nice balance in an RPG is hard to do.

It would be nice if we could get it before christmas, i would like a new/old rpg to help me through the cold nights. Chocolate, christmas ale and the "whirring" of my mega cd would be bliss.

It's definitely going to be a photo finish. In just the past couple days, the development team announced that the game is in the "packing stage", which means, at the very least, that the game is finally DONE.

It might be shipped in time for Christmas. I can only hope. If not, we'll be playing it some time in January.

Is it sold out? When I checked, it was, and they wouldn't say if they would make more...I really want it.

Yes, the pre-orders are completely sold out. They do have back-up copies, should any copies of the game be damaged in transit, but if all goes well, they say they'll sell those extra copies off. They've no stated how many additional copies exist.

They're very wishy-washy about future production runs. They've left it open to a second run, but they've also said that future releases of the game will not be like the initial release, which I believe means that any extras such as maps and posters will not be included in the future. However, they've never expressed any plans of doing a second run.

I'm very excited for this, if the screenshots and brief gameplay they showed off is any indication, this could be a top notch 16 bit RPG. I can imagine there will be a lot of unboxings for this on YouTube, but I will still do one since I was originally the first person to even make a video about Pier Solar when I first learned about it nearly 2 years ago. Can't wait!

Even if I got JUST the cartridge, I'd be happy.

So what is actually included in the package now?
I searched through the forums and couldnt find an actual list of contents.
Obviously the cart, the manual and the cd for the ambient sounds but are they packing anything else in?

On the preorder page it says it includes:
1 x 64MEG Pier Solar game cartridge.

1 x Audio/Data CD allowing enhanced HIFI soundtrack and sound effects, when used in conjunction with the Sega Mega CD / Sega CD add-on.

1 x 24 page glossy printed story book similar to those found with Japanese Sega Genesis Games.

1 x Uniquely styled gloss cardboard clamshell with incorporated storage for both the Audio/Data CD and booklet.

1 x Pier Solar Poster.

I don't know if this has changed at all though.

I'm glad you posted on this, Pete. I had actually swung by these forums to find out if maybe you guys were going to talk about this on the show. I'm definitely looking forward to you doing an unboxing video yourself, Pete.

The coolest thing about this game is just the technical aspect of using the game cartridge in conjunction with a CD. Truly getting the best of both mediums.

By the way, did anyone else here, um, get the posterity package when it was available?
