Who is Your Favorite Game Developer/Designer?

Musicians get credit for their music. Actors get credit for their movies....but game designers and development teams don't get the same kind of acclaim for their art.

So I thought I would post a thread where people could give their favorite games designer/development team a little recognition.

Mine would be a close call between Shigeru Miyamoto (cliché I know) and the head designer for Team Ico; Fumito Ueda. I also have a soft spot for Clover Studios games.

Miyamoto had birthed more 5 star games than any other person in the World. He revolutionized fun on home consoles, something he still does to this day.

Ueda is known for designing two of the most artistically appreciated games of all time; Shadow of the Colossus and the very allusive Ico. I find his games to be awe inspiring and true pieces of “interactive art”.

So. Who is your favorite game designer? Who is your favorite development team? And why?

Hideo Kojima...
He is my idol. His story direction and relevance to geographical location and current/past events is astonishing! It's almost as if he's telling the future

I have been playing allot of Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 on the PS2 lately and I really love the games. I think he is really talented guy in his own right.

I am intrested in Metal Gear Solid: Rising which I expect to hear about at E3. Do you think it will be as good with Kojima only producing it?

Uhm, honestly I have mixed feelings about Metal Gear Rising... While we have already had a Raiden only part, which was amazing, the whole "lightning bolt action" tag-line does worry me a little. I think they are going to concentrate more on action, rather then espionage (not that they haven't done that already with MGS4).

On one side, it'll be very interesting to see how Raiden came to be Ultra-Ninja-Raiden, but I'll sure miss Snake.
Also, MGS4 wrapped up the entire story so perfectly, with no loose ends what-so-ever, that I hope the extra content introduced by Rising won't make it too ridiculous (like what happened with .hack//G.U., don't get me wrong, I love it, but super-killer-coma-computer-viruses from outer space? Give me a break...)

Keiji Inafune - for his work on MegaMan, Dead Rising, Onimusha, and Lost Planet.

Hideki Kamiya - Bayonetta, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, and created Devil May Cry.

I guess Miyamoto too ;)

Honestly I don't think I could really name too many Western developers outside of Ted Price, and Peter Mol.....creator of Fable who talks out of his ass a lot. I can't spell his name. :P

Favorite studios:

Bioware
Capcom
Naughty Dog
Insomniac
DICE
Rareware (primarily their older games)
Valve

I'll pretty much buy whatever they release day 1.

Capcom is awesome. I'm going to take a shot in the dark and guess that Hideki Kamiya worked with Clover Studios? Am I wrong?

Yes most western developers arn't very well know except for that dude who created The Sims, lol.

Love Capcom and Incomniac. Naughty Dog has a nice track record too.

The only game I would even consider playing by Bioware is Knights of the Old Republic on the X-Box. Never cared for the genre they develop for.

That's actually why I love Bioware so much. I'm not a fan of RPG's at all either, but somehow they're always able to make me like their RPG's. I loved KOTOR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect 1 & 2, and Dragon Age Origins.

Yup Kamiya used to work for Clover Studios (director of Viewtiful Joe, and Okami), and now works at Platinum Games which I hear is where a bunch of former Clover employees went to as well. They made Bayonetta so that's definitely a company that knows how to make a good game!

For PC games I think it has to be the CCP guys who created EVE Online. They also merged their company with White Wolf so they are also a table top company too. They'll be bringing out an World of Darkness MMO in the next 2-3 years.

They are also making a MMO First Person Shooter called Dust 514 that will interface with EVE Online's servers. It is based off the Unreal 3 engine and the EVE China development team, which is headed by one of the original Icelandic devs who heads up the China Dev team.

Secondly, I'd have to say BioWare is the next favorite. Color me impressed. I have the original Never Winter Nights, KOTOR and the Mass Effects. Their games are amazing and they care about their fans.

Next... well Capcom... I love their devs.

Then... Visceral Games. Deadspace, Godfather, Dante's Inferno... yes please.

Atlus is more of a publisher than a development studio if you get down to brass tacks isn't it?

He created the Dragon Warrior/Quest series and co-created Chrono Trigger with Final Fantasy creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi. Every RPG fan should thank him for making console RPGs more popular to gamers everywhere.

No one specific developer, but I used to be a big Nintendo and Square fan. Nowadays, can't seem to find a company that brings the magic Nintendo and Square did in the NES & SNES days. Would be nice to find such a company though, and perhaps, within that company, one particular developer that I would know by name.
