Due to the success of my other topic, I thought of another good one.

Because Sonic Colors is coming soon. I thought we should discuss our likes and dislikes of the series! Here's mine! I can only do ones I've played...

Sonic the Hedgehog- Pure Greatness. A great start. Classic.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2- In my opinion the best EVER. SEGA really outdid themselves!
Sonic the Hedgehog CD- Great, but not the best in my opinion like many say...
Sonic the Hedgehog 3- Second best. Could be better than 2, but a tinny bit short.
Sonic & Knuckles- Also awesome. I don't consider Sonic 3 & Knuckles a game together, but if I did it would outdo Sonic 2.
Sonic Adventure- Best 3D Sonic game in my opinion. Besides Big and Amy a sure classic.
Sonic Adventure 2- Almost as good as Adventure 1, but I don't like how there's no "adventure" like in the first.
Sonic Heroes- Meh. I didn't like the team thing, and it felt like a really sloppy attempt.
Shadow the Hedgehog- Meh. I actually liked this game, but looking back at it it was only decent.
Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)- Bad. I could have been great... but so... glitchy... and not well put together. I can't get myself to finish this one. Sonic's levels were fun at times though.
Sonic Unleashed- Daytime was cool but could have been a bit better. Night was just incredibly stupid. Meh...
Soinc the Hedgehog (GameGear)- Very Good. Not as good as the Genesis version, though.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (GameGear)- Same as Sonic 1 on GameGear.
Sonic Chaos- Ok, but kinda a weird spinoff.
Sonic Triple Trouble- Same as Chaos but a bit better.
Sonic Advance 3- Great. I really enjoy it.
Sonic Rush- Good, but too much boosting like in Sonic Unleashed. I prefer the old style momentum based gameplay.
Sonic Rush Adventure- Ok, but felt like a re-hash of Sonic Rush...
Sonic and the Secret Rings- Ok, but I didn't like the controls at times.
Sonic Spinball- Good. i liked it.
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine- Devilishly HARD....
Sonic Drift- ....
Tail's Skypatrol- Decent.
Tail's Advenutre- Decent.
Sonic 3D Blast- Good. I liked it more than most other people.
Sonic R- Decent... musics horrifing...
Sonic riders- Good, but could have been better...

...Sonic X-Treme- WHY DIDN'T THEY FINISH IT!!!! It could have been great....

Ok, guys. There's mine. Now it's your turn!

Ds Games!

My favorite in order, and I'm only picking ones I've played enough of to form an opinion:

Sonic 2
Sonic The Hedgehog
Sonic and Knuckles
Sonic 3
Sonic Spinball
Sonic Rush

The platforming sonics on genesis were great, I felt Rush was a decent game, a nice refresher after the long line of horrible sonic games to come out before it, and spinball I found to just be an overall fun game.

I grew up a Mario fan, so I have never got into the Sonic games until years later when I bought an old Genesis at a garage sale and it came with three Sonic games. As platformers go, they are quite solid if not a little too fast and chaotic at times, but the gameplay has grown on me in recent years. My favorites are the first two games and Sonic & Knuckles. I have played a few of the 3D games and I wasn't crazy about them, so this is one franchise that is best appreciated by playing the old school games.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles (I do consider them 1 game) is probably my all time favourite game out of any series. Sonic 1,2 and CD are all great. I enjoyed the gameboy advance games but they weren't overly exciting. Sonic 3D Blast was decent but not compelling enough for me to go back to it regularly.

Sonic R I actually enjoyed until I unlocked everything, then I lost interest. Sonic the Fighters/Championship is fun but not all that deep. I play it occasionally.

I'm not into the game gear/master system games.

Sonic Heroes was pretty crappy, controls were horrible.

Sonic Rivals could have been cool if they had scrapped the racing game idea and actually made it a proper platformer.

I think that's all the games I've played.

Although Sonic 3 & Knuckles were going to be one game, I just can't conisder it one because... it's not. They connect, but they are on different carts. It's like saying Adventure and Adventure 2 are one game. (I know they don't connect.)

You should try out the GameGear ones if you can they're good sometimes.

Agreed on Sonic Heroes.

Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing

That's pretty much the only Sonic game I've enjoyed. I've played the Genesis versions, Sonic Adventure, and Sonic Unleashed, but I just don't like them for whatever reason. I just don't like how fast they move since a lot of times it feels like I'm not doing anything but letting Sonic run with little interaction from me. I prefer Mario personally.

Hmmm... that's true for some, but the Genesis one's can be pretty darn challenging. Mario is amazing and I do think it is the superior series, but I love the old Sonics. Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing looks cool, but I never flt like the Genesis one played themselves. You let go of the controller he stops moving (after a second or two), but I agree in Unleashed and stuff.

The only reason I call Sonic 3 and Knuckles one game is because I only play them together. I think the only time I ever played them separately was back when they were first released.

I've got the mega collection and gems collection for PS2 and they have a bunch of either game gear or master system games (can't remember which). They were decent games, but the main problem I had was that the game physics were pretty crappy. And there was one (the one with Knuckles I think) which had horrible graphics and the screen was zoomed in so close you couldn't see where you were going.

My faves in this order:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - My first Sonic game I played when I was 7 and in my opinion it's the best. Not only is it my favorite Sonic game, but it's one of my top 10 faves of all-time. It's also what got me into gaming :)

Sonic 3 & Knuckles - It added so much content and was so much fun I couldn't put down

Sonic Adventure 2 - One of my favorite Dreamcast games and was even better on Gamecube

Sonic 3D Blast - I only liked the Sega Saturn version, I loved the bonus stages in that one and I didn't think it was nearly as bad as people said

Sonic Adventure 1- I remember being blown away by the graphics when it first came out, loved it enough to even get all of the medals

I haven't played many of the newer Sonic games (after Sonic Heroes) aside from Sonic '06 and Sonic and the Secret Rings, both of which I hated.

The only 2 that stand out in my mind are Adventure 2 and Sonic & Knuckles, both some of the various favorite games of my childhood.

Personally, I found the original sonic a lot harder than the original mario. The originals are challenging fun games with amazing music. Sonic is one of the best designed characters ever.

I have never been a hardcore or even what you would consider a big fan of Sonic so my comments aren't worth too much. My little brother on the other hand is a huge Sonic fan and he says he still likes some of the modern Sonic games though he is only 14.

Most Sonic games from Sonic 1 to Sonic Adventure 2 are fantastic with the exceptions of:

Sonic Spinball - Not a very fun pinball game
Knuckles Chaotix - The level designs and gameplay are horrendous
Sonic Labyrinth - Probably the worst Game Gear Sonic game of them all.
Sonic R - It is Mario Kart on foot except it is not as fun.
Sonic 3D Blast - Sonic Labyrinth Part Deux
Sonic Shuffle - Lame Mario Party cash in

Everything else after SA 2 is just as bad as the games I listed if not worse.

Really? I can breeze through the Megadrive Sonic games losing hardly any lives, and I play those games pretty carelessly.

Mario, on the other hand, kicks my arse all over the place.

Admittedly I've been playing Sonic since it was first released and I never owned a NES or SNES. But the fact that rings = health makes it really easy for me, and you can collect rings that you drop. With Mario it's one or two hits and you're dead.

sonic - Great game my favorite one out of the 3 actually

sonic 2 - another great sonic game and the one i would recommend considering it's the most liked

sonic 3 - My opinion but this one wasn't that great it was good but no where near as good as the first two. would still recommend this thought considering its also well liked

sonic and knuckles - same as 3

sonic 3d blast - a mediocre game not horrible not the best though gets a 5 out of 10

sonic adventure - a very good sonic game did not like the free roam aspect though so much. also the chaos (the cute little blue things not the boss) felt lacking

sonic adventure 2 - This is actually my favorite sonic game. I loved the missions it had and also the boss fights were amazing. They kept the sense of speed got rid of the freeroam and added 2 stories and a half. Also the half had great difficulty making the ending feel more satisfying. I was also addicted to the chaos

sonic heroes- Not a horrible game but no where near as good as the first 2 sonic adventures. the gameplay mechanics were unique though and i like them.

shadow the hedgehog - I actually really liked this game it reminded me of sonic adventure 2 a bit. Not as good but i thought it was a really good game.

sonic and the secret rings - I really liked this game too and i felt that most critics didn't give it a chance. Yea the controls were kind of weird but you got use to those soon I actually would recommend this game too it has to be cheap now

sonic unleashed - the daytime levels where extremely well done and obviously the best part of this game. The night time levels well don't compare to the daytime levels but ehhh there not horrible i mean their playable.

sonic rush- i really good sonic game i mean its very easy but its extremely fun. Also the music is truly amazing one of my favorite sonic soundtracks if not my favorite

sonic riders - hated this game. long story short i rented it got to last level, game froze, didn't save. and the game sucks too anyways.

sonic battle - this is a pretty fun game never beat it but had fun. this isnt a rush buy but if you see it i say pick it up

sonic advance 1,2, and 3 - all three are very good and i highly recommend them. Their like a updated versions of the original games in how there played.

sonic r- stay away

dr robotnik's mean bean machine - I found this game to be one of the most addicting games the gensis has to offer. i really just fell in love with this game and it's my second favorite puzzler

I was 6 (19 years ago) when Sonic 1 came out and it was one of the big reasons I become a gamer at an early age.

My love for Sonic was huge during the Megadrive/Mega CD era but came to a halt with Sonic 3D (which has still left a bitter taste in my mouth).

I bounced back with Sonic Adventure which I thought wasn't too bad except for the voice overs (Tikal's VA go get some acting lessons!). In my opinion its still the greatest 3D Sonic game.

Sonic Adventure 2 was alright but the stage design wasn't that great compared to 1.

I'm not too fond of the Advance games. I thought they added a lot of unnecessary crap to the formula and the stage design wasn't as good as the Megadrive games plus it was long winded. Neither was the music.

I was prepared to start collecting Sonic games left right and center but at that time Sonic and the Secret Rings came out .... and wow .... the game was "extremely" unplayable.

The controls were probably the worst on the Wii next to Red steel at the time my whole gaming family was there and we couldn't get past the first stage .... suffice to say we were all very
embarrassed. (Since we have all been playing games for 10 to 20+ years ).

So I basically still collect different versions of 1,2,SCD,3,S&K and SA but the love stops there.

I have a lot riding on Sonic 4. Unlike those few who are boycotting it I actually like graphics even though it is in 2.5D it captures the Megadrive essence well. Plus the music is amazing!!! It's a trip back to the good ol days!
