I have an old Panasonic DV cam (probably one of the first) and that means right now I'm importing my videos to Premiere, editing then exporting to virtual dub and doing deinterlace then conversion to Xvid, but I have to say, the quality isn't the best. Maybe I need to adjust my settings.. How do you guys record and compress? Do you do it right from your webcam or maybe your camera compresses it on the fly? I'd be interested to see what people do or what equipment they use. |

What I have been doing is taking the video from whatever source, capture or camera, and putting that into the Studio program. Was using Pinnacle 12.1 but now using the iMac. Once the video is made, h.264 mp4, I run it through Handbreak for x.264 which is h.264 but Handbreak has more aggressive settings which do not take from the quality at all. I usually get a 30-50% reduction from my movie. Handbreak is free. You just need to download it and viola. Oh, and you'll need to play with the aspect ratio and autocropping settings if you don't want Handbreak to tinker with the video. |

I wish I had a mac again. All I needed was Final Cut before, Windoze has really made editing a bit of a chore

I used to record with a Pansonic GS250 (great cam, look it up) but since it broke I've been using my Kodak Zi8 which is awesome. I do just usually import my footage into my video's folder then import into premiere. From there I then export and finally compressing with one of the greatest (and free) programs, MPEG Streamclip. Hope this helps! |

Well here are the ways. If you have a real Camcorder, make your video with it. ON VHS, or whatever. Then plug it in, and record it on coputer then compress to file. You will probably have to record the sound seperate, since my capture device is video only. I also have a Digital Camera that has a reasonable resolution, for direct computer recording. Also any USB webcam, or the mac/pc built in cam will do. For USB camera's you wil have choppy pictures, however a digital camera can be used as a really nice/cheap webcam. In terms of intenert. For youtube just make a WMV9 type file ( since that is the best on the internet so far ), and then change to Mp4 or whatever they are using for the PSP, or iphone, then upload. |

Well for starters, I have nothing against the camera, but nowadays when buying store products I would stay away from them. Try uploading it to youtube first, then they will rencode it. Otherwise search for a Mp4 editor, something that could convert back and forth. Then you could try running the recording threw the computer. |
