Final Fantasy 8. After I was spoiled by 7 I was expecting greatness after it and didn't get anything close to it.

I guess the most disappointing thing in my personal gaming history was when I let a "friend" borrow my copy of Phantasy Star Online Ep. 1+2 for the Gamecube. I never got that back, took me YEARS to find another reasonably priced copy.

Well...

I think my most disapointing moment in gaming was when my mom took back my Nintendo to Toys R Us and got the cheaper atari 7800.

Next would be the Nintendo 64 day-and-date launch. Mario 64 and Pilot Wings. I personally didn't care much for Mario's 3D revolution and still played Mario World like a boss. Pilot Wings was hokey. Even if I could find mario tolerable... it felt like months before the next good game came out. And it was... Xmas in 1996 felt like the real launch of the N64.

Because it's an extremely overrated game. Mario 64 just didn't work. It was too early too make Mario into 3D. Also, just the overall style of the game and the way it worked was not very appealing.

I thought the game was great. Granted, I liked the ps1 competitors better, but mario 64 was revolutionary to say the least.

For me it was the Wii. Thus far it has neglected one of my favorite Nintendo franchises (Starfox), and there's barely any 3rd party titles for it that I'm interested in playing. I don't care about games like de Blob, Cursed Mountain, No More Heroes, The Conduit, Monster Hunter, etc when there's so many better 3rd party games on the PS3, and 360.

I think Mario 64 is a pretty darn good game and still love it now but mario world is still better. :D

Biggest disapointment? Cant name a specific one but i'll try a few.

Parasite eve 2, we in the uk didnt get the first PE and only got the 2nd which is totally poor in comparison. Love the first one.(My friends dad ended up getting a copy from abroad)

Fable 2, alright game but is nothing compared to the first. The spell casting mechanics are awful and the lines that appear on your body after casting magic really annoys me.

I had been playing 3D games on my PC since 1993. Mario wasn't special to me as a gamer. If it was my first experience with 3D and I didn't play my eyeballs out of SMB1-3 + World maybe it would have been different.

But when I had played a my share of games on the Saturn and PS1 and took what I loved about the SNES to a new level the 64 betrayed me a bit. It's not a bad game, but I don't like it. I don't like Sunshine Either.

I have not played Universe 1 or 2 or New SMB but I plan to get them.

Mario 64 was not revolutionary to gaming as a whole. Not one bit. It was revolutionary to consoles gamers in some ways. Revisionist history detection meter going off again :P

Hey, if someone likes Mario 64 that is fine by me. I can see why it would be cool to people. It just wasn't for me and the launch of the 64 tainted it in many ways I am sure. 64 was 200 bucks. You had to buy your game. Mario 64 was pretty much it for 6 months. While the PS1 shoveled out games like crazy, there were already over 100 games by the time the 64 came out.

Can a single mario game, who is arguably worse depth wise than the 2 previous titles, make up for such a bad step? It didn't for me.

Biggest disappointment in gaming? Microsoft's press conference E3 2010. They managed to take a conference about gaming(which is suppose to be fun, or you would think so anyway) and turned it boring.

well you know what they say, once something has more then maybe 10 fans, it's overrated... =/

My biggest disappointment was that Microsoft didn't cancel that xbox crap while they still could.

I was part of the hardcore Gears of War community for 4 years and when everyone had seen the GoW2 trailer they all were going crazy it; pre-ordering it and about to flock to it the second it was released, throwing GoW1 in the trash. It was such a miserable time for me, I knew the community would fall apart and I'd never talk to or play with a lot of my friends- plus I had a feeling that it wouldn't be half as good (I had read up on Cliffy's blog and he told us GoW1 wasn't what he wanted it to be and GoW2 would be his original idea.) Turns out the game was terrible in comparison to the first and thankfully enough people realized that so most returned to GoW1. But it was still a disappointment that I knew was coming.

My biggest disappointment this year was Red Dead Redemption. All I would hear is everybody praise it for being amazing, so I had to check it out, I bought it new at K-Mart for 60 dollars, worst 60 dollars I've ever spent. The game was an extremely boring wasteland of extremely boring quests to do for extremely boring people. Maybe I'm spoiled from the much better sandbox games out there Like Infamous and the GTA series, but still, HUGE disappointment, I traded it in about a week and a half after I bought it

Wow, we had totally different opininon but that's cool. I personally thought Infamous was my least favorite sand box game, just seemed so repetitive.

I loved Infamous, you have no idea, The story was great. It put you right in the action, and the whole comic book style story telling was amazing, plus I loved how you could upgrade you powers, and Infamous was probably the only game to get the Good/Bad choices correct, Depending on your actions, the story would play out differently, and the townspeople would treat you differently,it is one of the best, if not the best, sandbox games out there.

I have to be honest, I was not blown away for Mario 64 when I first played it back in the 1990's. I grew up with the 2D side-scrolling Mario games and I found that I didn't like the transition to 3D that much. I gave it the old college try but I didn't get into it and I soon gave up on it, so I still think that it's overrated. However, I loved Mario Galaxy and I am more accepting of 3D Mario and Zelda games now, so I might go back to it and see if I like it better this time. Your taste can change a lot in 15 years!

By the way ctx, your "most disappointing game" seems to be less about the game itself but rather a defective disk. To say that the game was disappointing based solely on not being able to play it, that's more about circumstance rather than a game that didn't live up to your expectations. Just saying.
