To be honest, I don't think that it is possible to make a top 10 best games ever. No matter what you say is the best game ever, there will be someone who disagrees and there will be two completely valid points on why it should or shouldn't be a BGE, but I guess that we could all decide somehow. ![]() I guess I will go with Morrowind and Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2). Morrowind because was one of the first games to perfect an open world environment. The sound is phenomenal, the graphics are amazing, even to this day! The attention to detail in Morrowind is ridiculous, with hundreds of books all with writing inside, the environment with thousands of enemies, plants, buildings, unique characters, and countless other goodies! The gameplay is pretty good, nothing really original, but the vast amount of weapons, spells, armor, clothing, accessories, and other "attachables" are just the icing on this delicious cake of a game. Dark Cloud 2's upgradeable weapons and georama make this game extremely addictive, and this game has one of the best non-MMO replay values of any other game. The gameplay is simple, but that is what makes it so good in my opinion. Dark Cloud 2 can be described as a hack-and-slash dungeon crawler, but doing so would be like calling Antarctica kind of cold. The story is anything but average, though I will refrain from giving a full review jam-packed with spoilers. I LOVE the minigames! There are two fishing events in the game, one of which requires raising your own fishies that you caught from rivers, ponds, or the sea, raising them by feeding them food which makes them faster, stronger, have more stamina, etc. This took up half of my total playing time on most of my files, because it's so damn awesome racing your fish! I think that we do this in a sort of democracy by voting on which ones we want.

@Richard That is not an attack towards you, it is just something that comes along with attempting to form a top ten best games ever. The Paper Mario series (particularly the first two) are amazing games. I am not basing it on my favorite games of all time, I am basing it on the best. If you just ignore a game and throw it aside, that is just as bad as basing the list on your favorites, and we will never have the best list possible. Not to mention the massive replay value that comes with the series as well. I could replay TTYD 100 times and never get bored. Although I can tell by now, there is no way you are even going to take it into consideration, so whatever. Here is another suggestion. Don't shoot it down just yet: Animal Crossing No, I am not joking. The original, more specifically, made simulators what they are today. When I think of simulators, I think The Sims (another one that could be argued for the list), Harvest Moon, and Animal Crossing. And when I think of casual games, I immediately think of Animal Crossing. Animal Crossing made working, doing errands, organizing furniture, and buying clothes all fun in a video game. I have clocked on easily over 150 hours on this game because it demands you to come back every day and each time you won't be disappointed with the rewarding experience. This game made people think twice about how fun work can be. Sit back and relax: Go fishing, dig up fossils, catch bugs, decorate your house, do errands, travel to your friends towns, meet the neighbors; there is TONS of things to do in Animal Crossing and it is one of the few games that can keep you hooked for months straight. I even know people who continued to play this game through YEARS. What does that tell you about the game? Smooth gameplay, a relaxing yet rewarding and fun experience, and immense replay value. |

Honestly Richard, this thread is ridiculous and unachievable. No, I didn't expect people to accept Paper Mario as the top ten games of all time, but then again you haven't cited any reasons against it beyond 'r j00 kidd3n m3h!'. There are too many games, too many opinions, and no way to settle on 10, especially with your intolerance and scrutiny here. Best games? What does that even mean? Genre-perfecting, industry impacting, fad starting, what? This has just turned into your jaded loud mouth yelling at people for not copy and pasting the lists of various other sources. Here this is IGN's 2008 Reader's Choice list, hope you're happy. 10: Shenmue II 9: Resident Evil 4 8: Metal Gear Solid 7: Goldeneye 007 (good call pokemon) 6: Super Metroid 5: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 4: LoZ: A Link to the Past 3: Soulcaliber 2: Chrono Trigger 1: LoZ: Ocarina of Time IT'S SETTLED! YAY! 10 BEST GAMES OF ALL TIME (No one's opinion matters now!) |

That's another reason I mentioned it. I like the game a lot and try to encourage others to play. It's very underrated. I wouldn't mind if others tried to copy the game's formula more often. Closet would probably be Zelda, but that's more on the action side. It's only $5.99 on PSN anyway, so it wouldn't be much of a loss if you don't like it. |

Spyro the Dragon and Jak and Daxter both deserve a mention (although I really want Spyro on the list) because they both two of the greates platformers of all time for both the PS1 and PS2. Although in my mind Spyro is 20 times better just because of the level design, music, gameplay, story line, graphics, replay value, characters, etc. etc. Don't forget how many sequels its even spawned ( although the first two sequels are the only good ones). |

Why I find the greatest game of all time to be The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask, and I will tell you why. I understand many people may not go for this one, but simply the time didn't put any pressure on you at all, and without it the game wouldn't feel right, and certain things wouldn't be met, it also shows a slight amount of realism. If you use the Song Of Inverted Time, all three days add up to about 2 and a half hours. That seems like enough time to complete each dungeon. Also, people do not like the masks, if they'd got rid of it, that'd be stupid. The masks are what made up the game, and they found their place. Each mask did something different, and the transformation masks had amazing controls. The story has to be the greatest and most deep Zelda story. Link's horse and ocarina get jacked by Skull Kid, while trying to meet Navi again. Then, he's fighting to get back home, and to live. If he did not do any of this, the moon would crash into the Earth, therefore causing the world ending. Also, the music is well-written I like the sound of each place, and find each quite fitting. Then, there's the dungeons, there is a small amount of dungeons (four), but each dungeon is really complicated and hard (except the first one), and it will take you awhile before you beat each. Then, it also slightly improved graphically from Ocarina of Time. Then, the final boss is easy if you are a cheater, if not it could be quite challenging. There aren't many dungeons, but tons and tons of sidequests, thus making it enjoying. That's exactly why Majora's Mask should be in top 10. |

This thread is starting to take a turn for the worst and im starting to agree with some of the other members. There does seem to be some biases here and apparently the term 10 best games ever could have multiple definitions. Also i dont think some people are trolling when mentioning certain games. Thats not the definition of a troll or trolling anyway lol. We do have hardcore and maybe even people who dont have that much gaming experience on this forum. Perhaps even people who havent looked at too many top 10 lists. If these people view a game as one of the best then that may be there opinion. However i do believe since Richard is the topic starter he does seem to be taking charge and it seems that he has been basically burying or passing games. If this thread was called "name games and richard will decide if its top 10 worthy" then the thread may be working but it isnt. While i agree that some games will most likely not make the cut i believe that a better method could be used for dismissing or passing certain games. Such as letting members vote rather than letting this thread be ran like a dictatorship. No offense to richard i just think everything could be decided better so no ones choices are questioned or viewed as non important. Either that or the topic can be closed. |

That is pretty funny my last post on the thread was over 2 weeks ago. I let others take it over check out my last post date. Once it went downhill I didn't bother with this anymore and I am still not going to. Since I am the OP if you want I could put a list of recommendations and a voting system of some sort and sort it out, but that is far as I am going to go.I'm not posting another comment on this thread except to edit my original post with a vote counter. Close it if you want it doesn't matter to me, but I don't think it would be fair to everyone else who has contributed. |

My Top 10 10. Final Fantasy VII - Despite the hype and the opinion of the general public I found it to be a solid RPG , great characters, great graphics, awesome music, materia was a great skill/advancement system, tons of side quests and an unforgettable story. This was the first FF ever released in Australia (ummm does Mystic Quest Legend count? :P) and is responisble for 75% of todays Australian RPG community. 9. Phantasy Star - The first RPG I ever played and I was only 5 at the time but I had trouble understanding it, thankfully my brother and my dad helped me and thanks to the them I got to enjoy Sega's masterpiece. I couldn't imagine what would of happened if I didn't play it , I'm glad I did. lol I remember I used to have nightmares of Succubus (which ironically is a nightmare in the game). But that didn't stop me from finishing the game. What's interesting out of the 3 JRPG Forefathers (Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star) Phantasy Star was the only one released in Europe/Australia. 8. Metal Gear Solid 4 - This is the only non-RPG game on the list. The finale to Hideo Kojima's Solid Snake storyline was an experience unlike anything else. The greatest cinematic gaming experience ever! 7. Golden Sun & Lost Age - Frankly I consider the Golden Sun experience to be both games together and cannot be separated. It was sad when the Takahashi brothers left Sega and Shining name behind them. But if they never did we wouldn't have got Golden Sun. I got the first game for my 16 birthday with the GBA. I was glued to the screen day and night. Lost Age continued its greatness but the only thing that bothered me was the ending and I always thought there would be another game. Luckly after 6 long years of waiting finally the story continues! I can't wait for Dark Dawn in December. If Nintendo Australia pulls the same crap they have done for DQIX (Aug 19th! a month after the US what a joke!) I will simply import. 6. Shining Force 2 - My family and I were obssessed with Sega's glorious strategy RPG, actually this was the first Strategy RPG it ever played. I absolutely love the story and its characters. The combat system to this day still holds up as still as one of the best. The chess battle in the game led me to actually play chess in real life. ^^ 5. Phantasy Star IV - This was the last game I played on the Megadrive and as the old saying goes you save the best for last. Simply put PS IV End of the Millenium is the greatest Megadrive game ever and is was the best way to end the series. I think this was the first game that the characters made me laugh. lol Grandpa Dorin and Raja ... ![]() 4. The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time - While most people were controlling Link for the first time Ocarina of Time this was actually the 3rd Zelda I played. My Family and I didn't own a N64 so we used to hire one now and then to play it. My brother and I were glued to TV screen during the holidays journeying through Hyrule. lol I remember my brother getting angry trying to figure out the riddle atop Lake Hyrule and I said "Why don't you shoot and arrow into the sun?" he said "what? thats retarded but I'll do it to prove that your an idiot" .... lol I've never let him here the end of it even to this day. ![]() Ocarina of Time and Zelda still have the best real time sword fighting ever. 3. Dragon Quest VIII - DQVIII was the first DQ game released in Europe/Australia and I'm glad they did. Not only is it my favorite RPG on PS2 its my favorite PS2 game period! The game reminded me why I love rpgs. The battle system was simple and fantastically entertaining to watch. The artwork was simply one of the best I ever laid eyes on (level 5/Akira ftw). The symphonic soundtrack was so good it had me humming the tunes when I wasn't playing the game. I loved the game so much it led me to cosplay the hero at the state anime/video game convention. 2. Ys Book I & II - My relationship with the Ys series has been an odd one. I played Ys on the master system when I was 6 but never got to play 2. 3 years later I got to play Wanderers on my megadrive then nothing until Ys VI in 2006. These huge gaps never allowed me to get to attached the the series as a whole but in 2008 that changed forever. Australia never got the PC Engine/Turbografx until Virtual Console on the Wii. I was amazed to see a CD version of Ys for 800 points so out of curiosity I downloaded it. And within 10 minutes I was transported back to 1990 and for the 2nd time in my life I felt like that 5 year old kid enjoying Phantasy Star ^^. Ys Book I & II made me realize how much I love video games. The combat system was faster than the master system version, the characters are amazing and I got easliy attached to them. But most of all it has the best soundtrack ever made. Since then I've become obsessed with the Ys series and anything from Falcom (maybe not Gurumin .... I can't seem to get into it). 1. Suikoden II - This game is very very dear to me. It to contains the greatest story ever written! Better than any book, tv show or movie ever made. I loved the first game a lot but Suikoden 2 was a experience that is incredibly deep to the point of madness. I talked to everyone I saw thrice. Read every book in the libary, played every mini game, won and lost millions of potch, cooked up a storm in the epic iron chef mini game, changed the story were it seemed impossible (Ridley anyone) and fought the greatest evil known to gaming kind: Luca Blight. I've forgotten how many times I've played it (somewhere between 7-10) and talking about it makes me want to play it again ... *turns on the PS2* |

Doesn't really seem fair. If this really was a Top 10 Revolutionary games of all time then all games should be considered if someone brings it up. Give us reasons man, you can't just shoot it down instantly. There are so many games out there, I sure haven't played them all so it's hard for everyone to just automatically know what's considered better than others. Don't forget it's a forum there's many different kinds of people on here with their own opinions. Please talk to each one of us like we're individually important as we all are
