I have been toying with the idea of buying Dead Space for a while. Sorry if this offends fans of the game, but it really just looks like Resident Evil 4 in space. This is what makes me not want to get the game. I didn't really like Resident Evil 4. Combat was slow and boring, the environments were ugly and all looked way too much like eachother, and I thought that it really wasn't all that scary. 2 hours in, I quit. So would I like Dead Space? I like the Sci-fi look and all. |

If you like good games then you'll like Dead Space. One of the biggest complaints people have about RE4, and RE5 is that you can't move and shoot at the same time in combat. In Dead Space you can, and rather than just going for enemies heads you have to shoot off as many limbs on them as you can in order to kill them in Dead Space. It's pretty damn satisfying, and adds a little bit of strategy when thinking about how to conserve ammo. Storywise Dead Space kicks the shit out of anything Resident Evil has ever come out with. The overall ambiance and setting is wonderful due to the fantastic graphics, and the enemies always having their eyes on you. The nercromorphs travel through the vent systems and can always pop out and attack you whenever they feel like. Sometimes they'll pop out, attack you really quick, and just go back into the vents and you'll never see them again. lol. Pretty suspenseful when that happens, and you always have a deep sense of isolation while playing this game. Despite me loving the hell out of Dead Space the environments are indeed repetitive. Personally it didn't bother me too much because typically the rooms look gruesome due to dead bodies being all over the place, or I just didn't pay much attention since a group of Necromorphs were attacking me. I don't think it takes too much out of the experience, but since you're on a large ship it's hard for it to not be repetitive looking I suppose. There's also a bit of backtracking which I'm never a fan of, but luckily they mix it up by adding enemies into rooms you were already in (sometimes mini-bosses), and there's a really nice HUD display. It's basically just a line on the ground that shows you where to go, but it's very helpful if you're lost. Resident Evil 4 & 5 are action games as far as I'm concerned. Even though I didn't find Dead Space to be that scary (aside from a few parts...like the beginning!!! ) it definitely has a better horror factor than RE4. That's primarily due to the way the game makes you feel incredibly isolated and alone, the wonderful graphics, and the superb audio. Yes buy Dead Space! I have it on PS3, and 360 I love it so much |

The 'problem' with survival games like Resi and Dead Space for me, has always been about the lack of fear, I've usually always brushed off all the 'scary' parts as lame 'jump' tactics. However, I approached Dead SPace differently, I bumped the difficulty up, way out of my comfort zone, and played it through that way. It actually changed my attitude towards the game, and made it more tense, and at times, more scary ![]() I enjoyed it, the combat was fun. Trying to aim correctly when you have a necro coming towards you, and the death animations were sweet. The environments were well designed, but I could only manage a chapter or two at a time. I dunno, I liked it. However if survival horrors aren't your thing... You're not gunna like it. |

Dead Space approaches horror differently than Resident Evil and it doesn't resort to spawn scares like Doom 3 either. Dead Space will completely screw you up if you expect action when the music starts to ramp up or safety when it ramps down. It may, or it may not. Moreover, some things are dead on the floor one hour, and not the next. If you didn't like the RE4 game play then it may not play the best for you but I find it better than RE4. |

I think the reason why it looks like RE4 to you is just because its a 3rd person horror game. Its quite different from RE4 in nearly everyway. It's not worth going into all the detail on why they are different, but it is NOT RE4 in space. If you like good gameplay and being scared, then yes get this game. Most importantly the game is probably no more then 20$ now. So its worth trying. |

Heads up, you can get Dead Space for 9.99 new plus a little tax. http://eastore.ea.com Add Dead Space to your cart, apply code 'fbdeadspace10buxoff' then apply this code 't8jwp3y4b' First code knocks off 10 dollars, second code gives you free shipping. EDIT: make sure not to copy and paste the annotations with the code :p Edited by Mett, Jun 21 2010, 04:30 PM.
