I, personally, love the PSP. It's a great handheld. But let's face it, it's getting blown out of the water by the DS/DSi. It feels like the PSP is starting to die out. Sony has been focusing on the PS3 so much, they forgot about its marketing situation with the PSP. And not only has the DS/DSi been pounding the PSP, but the 3DS comes out in March of '11 (supposedly) and according to the people at E3 2010, the 3DS is going to be cutting edge. So that's going to be hard for the PSP to be competing with the DS/DSi/3DS(soon to be). My advice to Sony: Either start working with the PSP more, or take it off the market. Because when the 3DS hits the market, the PSP will be a distant memory. |

The PSP has been hurt by the dismal failure of the UMD format (wow that reminds me when I thought Mini-Disc players were pimp and then MP3 players destroyed those lol). Anyways I love my PSP. It hasn't always got the best support or games, but it is more versatile than say a DS so that is why I like my PSP. I do use custom firmware, but it's not because I'm pirating new games I just like to use the system to its full capability. It's like how Sony removed the Other OS/Linux option because someone potentially found a way to hack the PS3. I didn't use Linux myself, but that's just punishing everyone because one guy finds a way to abuse it :/ I guess that's just how life is. Nintendo has always been the name though in portable gaming, so it's not really a huge shock that the PSP while more powerful never fully caught on. It had its share of marketing campaigns but it just proved too hard to surpass Nintendo. |

Sony is thinking about if they should pull the life support plug or not, knowing they sunk a lot of money into the handheld, especially with this psp go now, so to just give up on it would be losing a ton of money. Maybe they pull the plug and go in a different direction with the next psp. The umd format wasn't too great, and for the psp go, I know a lot of people prefer owning a physical copy of a game, and combine that with the high price point, I don't see it being around real long. |

I believe the PSP has another 5 years of official support left given the 10-year lifespan. It would be hard to trust Sony if they broke that promise. I don't see it as a bad system. I just wish the battery life was longer and we didn't have load times. Other than that, a truly great handheld. I hope battery life and load times are major concerns for them with its successor though.

I really feel the system has a couple years left in it. They're coming out with some new great titles within the next few months in Japan and They are releasing around 40 or so new titles before Christmas in the States. If this push of theirs fails, I have no idea if they'll continue handhelds or what@_@ |

I think the PSP has 6-7 more years left in it. And you can still get new games available for it even after that on the Playstation store, so even though the hardware may quit selling after a while, you'll still be able to buy new games on the Playstation store and not have to worry about them being scratched and used (nice feeling). I'd stock up on memory cards before then though. |

I really don't see how one could think the PSP was on its last leg. The hardware is superior to the DS in every way. The OS uses the same tech from the Bravia TVs to the PS3. It has HD TV out (slim models), which is really an underrated and undervalued feature. The big issue I see is that they've not committed full force to the platform as a first party developer. This doesn't surprise me because Sony is really busy pushing the PS3. While Nintendo doesn't have to do much work with the Wii for an entire gambit of reasons, the Wii's market success and hands off approach allows Nintendo to focus on the DS platform. I think this is why you see a lot of ps1 and ps2 re-hash titles on the PSP. Also, games that were never released in the US are finally ported over from the PS1 and/or PS2 to the PSP like the first Persona and Star Ocean games. This allows Sony to let the 3rd party developers bring out fan favorites that my not translate well over to the DS graphics wise and almost guarantee sales. Still, Sony is changing their stratagem a bit and I think Mon Nation Racers, God of War and the commercial coverage with Marcus is showing that Sony wants the PSP platform in tact reputation and market share wise before they invest in a PSP 2. I want a psp tbh. |

The truth is that it should have been taken off the market years ago, mainly because of the huge piracy issue the system has. It sells horribly compared to the DS and everybody who buys it uses it for piracy. But in reality Sony will probobly keep it alive for like 3 more years cause there idiots and can't see how poorly their handheld is doing. |

Isn't the PSP also part of the 10 year lifespan plan? It's about halfway there, so of course, 5 years minimum. I'm sure a part of us would all die if Sony broke their word and ended support before then. |

I'd say the DS is more pirated than the PSP. The R4 devices and easy access to Roms for GBA and DS titles is stunning. 30 bucks and an internet connection gives you infinite games for the DS. |

I still like my PSP. It does get more use than my DS, but the PSP Go didn't do so hot, it might be on its way out in a few years. |

The PSP is doing what it needs, I suppose. Not making much money, but stealing some customers from Nintendo. The PSP could still be great if some awesome games show up soon. |

i think the psp is dying... slowly but surely. the lack of good releases and the dissapointing psp go are the things killing it and lets not forget the big amount of pirates on the psp. i think the only real thing (or country actually) that i think is still keeping the psp really up is japan (psp is really popular atleast right after the ds) |

Well when you think about all PSP models have sold over 50 million units. Not a bad number at all, just not great compared to the 120+ mil of the 4 DS units. But I do think that the PSP is a better system and does bring more serious and more ports of really good games, it also has many 8-16-32 bit generation games in collections on it. |

i think it's a nice system that could sell more if sony would give it more love. just release more games like monster hunter 4 or gta SA. that way the psp could sell more. |

I agree ctx. Sony, look man, just keep releasing good games and we'll buy. The PSP should stay on the market a minimum of 10 years to hold to Sony's promise. |

It is not really the DS stealing the PSP's market share, it is iPods and iPhones. However I believe that the PSP will continue to sell for another 4-5 years at least, keeping Sony's 10 year promise. It may even last longer, like the PS2, nearly 11 years old and still going strong. |

I also think they need to start marketing more. PSP go was a fail. Sooo yeah, they need to focus more on the psp, rather ps3. I think it'll be a lot longer, if they get the hint to start working on psp. |
