now that the new xbox 360 with all the USB things and wifi and a hard drive will all come with the new xbox the other xbox's will be shund a little, the new xbox i hear costs the same as a reguler old xbox. witch means the orginal xbox 360 is gonna have waayy less buys. so now im gonna get to the point of this topic, when a new system comes out all the dead systems will increas in value.in like three years the orginal xbox will be a thing of the past ( im not saying the orginal xbox is dead) and pepole will try selling there old gaming stuff on epay or amazon or somthing like that, dont do that. keep your old systems dont sell them. in like 5 years from now the N64 will be worth ALOT. so what im saying is, when somethin ''brand new'' dont trash your systems, keep them and ther be worth some cash one day

This is not the case when newer improved models come out, than older models that have less capabilities go down in price, as well as in personal value just as the original xbox 360 will. The new xbox comes with a bigger hard drive, built in wifi (finally), smaller, quieter, and far far less prone to Red Rings, as well as extra USB ports, and a port that is specially made for the Kinect so that you do not require to buy an extra adapter, or whatever they are making for original users to be able to purchase the Kinect. For those who do not own a 360 it will be a lot easier for them to purchase a used one for less from places like Ebay, because a lot of people will be going towards the new slim 360, so you can save money that way. Otherwise I do not see the original xbox 360 becoming more valuable over the years. One of the reasons the PS3 60GB and older models were so sought after is because they were fully backwards capable, had it built in right into the system, and with the PS3 the hard drive it uses you can purchase another larger hard drive and place it in. It also had memory card slots, SD slots, and an abundance of USB ports, the newer models lack in the backwards compatibility and have lost out on slots/usb ports. So the point I am trying to make is that when it comes with newer models of systems that are more reliable than their older counterparts, the older models tend to phase out. Some may say there are exceptions like those slim top loading dual systems for the snes and Nes, in that case the original super Nintendo is worth more, but that is because the new models are not manufactured by Nintendo themselves and can be quite faulty systems. Some games refuse to play on them. But as far as newer generation game consoles go such as the PS2 compared to the slim PS2, the slim tends to go for a bit more. It's only been as of recent years where companies have started this whole slim/newer models of their systems. |

I really doubt the older xbox consoles are gonna be worth more. My 2006 white xbox is louder then a lawnmower. Dont think people wanna pay more for that. |

Original xbox 360s are everywhere. There is no way they are going to be worth any real money in the future, especially with their high breakage rate. the N64 as you have mentioned, is also only worth around $20-30 on ebay and it's been dead for quite a while. If a system sold millions (most non-failure game systems do), they generally do not hold much value over time as they were so mass produced, they are everywhere. The only way older game systems will gain any money is if the supply of them goes drastically down while demand stays the same or rises. It's the basis of economics. |

For a system to be rare down the road, it helps if it had a very short life span, like the Virtual Boy. The N64 will never be an expensive system, there is just too many of them out there, pretty much a dime a dozen. Although the Pokemon edition N64 is worth more then a normal N64 and it may go up in the future, but thats it. For some of the older systems, later models are worth slightly more then the original. Unless its some obscure model like the JVC X'Eye or the Turbo Duo in which case its worth quite a bit more then previous models. I think at best those limited edition xbox consoles will be worth more in time. Edited by MeanBeanMacheen, Jun 26 2010, 09:26 PM.
