I'm looking to expand my DS collection, I'm buying Pokemon White for sure but I can't decide whether to buy either The World Ends With You and 999: Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors OR Final Fantasy IV and Hotel Dusk Room 215, any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Do you have a PSP? If so wait for the Ultimate Collection of FFIV coming out in a month or so. I would go with The World Ends With You and 999 even if you don't have a PSP though. You can't go wrong with any of those games but the TWEWY/999 combo holds more replay value and challenge than the other package.

Thanks for the input I think I will indeed go with the TWEWY+999 combo, cheers!

All four of them, those are four amazing games on the ds. Hotel Dusk is really cheap right now and FF4 I believe is like 20 dollars, the world ends with you was previously 15dollars on amazon as well, but i think its back up now, so if you can, get all four, you will not be disappointed with any of them.

I live in Japan and the US version of the games have barely lowered in price, being import titles here and all, so I can only afford either TWEWY+999 or FFIV+Hotel Dusk.

I cannot recommend TWETY and 999 enough. Those are my favorite DS games out there. Give them a try!

Another Code, Hotel Dusk and Last Window are good as well. And of course the Ace Attorney and Layton series.

Which one should I buy, a 32X, or a Dreamcast?

They're both brand new, and cost $50 each. I only have a spare $50, though.

Dreamcast all the way. Amazing library, mostly pretty cheap too.

Another question, I was wondering if I should buy Mass Effect 2 for the PS3?, I don't own a 360 or a powerful enough PC to run Mass Effect 1, so 2 on the PS3 would be my first entry in the series, I heard there is a digital comic that brings you up to speed with events of the first game, but is it enough?

Definitely buy it. The PS3 port has all of the expansions that was only available as DLC on the 360 and the digital comic ensures you won't be scratching your head at the story. It seems illogical that they would port the second game without including the first, but you are getting the better game in the series and it's well worth it.

I would disagree. Wait for the opportunity to get Mass Effect 1. I am a huge proponent of playing 1 before 2 and I actually think it is the better game. It has more flaws, but it is more expansive and has one of the best villains in any video game I have ever played.

Not only that, but you can have your decisions carried over from 1 to 2 including some other things including the look of your character incase you are into customizing that.

Know any good Metroidvania type games for Wii, DS, 3DS, PSP, PS1, PS2, etc. (except for Metroids and Castlevanias)?

I recently discovered Scurge: Hive & Monster Tale on the DS are similar to Metroidvania games, and was just thinking how much I love those style games but don't really see them hardly. Surprised they're not copied more.

Will probably definitely get those two games, but wondering if I've missed any other great games that could be classified as a Metroid or Castlevania: SoTN style game?

Thanks.

This thread could really be useful!

I finished Deadly Premonition a couple of weeks ago and that game skyrocketed into one of my favorite of all times (even though it nothing being a really good GAME). Does anyone have any suggestions of other games that got that extra IT factor? That there is something about them.

I'm thinking about getting Nier, can anyone who's played it confirm my suspicions of Nier having IT? (I realize that the explanation I provided for IT is pretty dumb to work with.

Genre doesn't matter, just games that are (in lack of a better word) unique.

And my two cents on the Mass Effect discussion:

I agree with Richard in that in a perfect world you should definetly play 1 before two, because your choices are carried over and it introduces and immerses you in the world in a way I think is hard for a comic to achieve (haven't read it so take it for what's it worth). But on the other hand, I'm going with Browlands answer. Pick it up if you don't feel like splashing the cash for a 360 (or upgraded PC). Mass Effect 2 is one of the best games I've ever played, and I can't recommend it enough.

But the best option is picking up 1 and then playing 2, prefrably back to back :)

I was wondering if The Sims 3 is any good on the 3DS. I've heard it doesn't have all the features the PC version had, but I never played it so that doesn't matter to me. Also, on the 3DS is Asphalt 3D as bad as people say it is to me it looks like I would enjoy more than Ridge Racer 3D.

So I've been itching to get NBA Jam since it released but I didn't want to pay full price. Now that it's been a while, the 360/PS3 version as well as the Wii version have both dropped to around $30 at Gamestop, the Wii version a tad cheaper.

Which version would you guys reccomend? I understand that the Wii version has more modes, but the 360/PS3 version has online.

Basically, if the Wii version is still a lot of fun when you play by yourself (I don't really have people to play locally), I'd go there, but if it's a game you have to play multiplayer to enjoy, I guess I'm gonna have to go with the 360 version.

Seriously EA, why did you have to make the Wii and PS3/360 version different?

Anyways, what is your reccomendation? Thanks.

The only games I can think of off the top of my head are Kirby Superstar for the SNES or DS & Shaman King Master of Spirits on the GBA. Kirby Superstar has the Cave Adventure mode which is very Metroidvania. Shaman King is very strong storywise in the anime itself, however I felt that it was a pretty decent game ignoring the story.

If anyone else has some recommendations, I'm looking for them as well!

Hey guys!

I'm looking at purchasing a Nintendo DS for some rpg gaming. However I'm not sure with which handheld to go for, i.e. NDS XL or N3DS. I know everyone is hyped about the 3DS but I'm wondering If a bigger screen will be better for playing rpg's.

I understand the 3ds is backwards compatible, but from what I hear on the all gen gamers pod cast (episode 33) the resolutions is not that great.

Any ideas?

DSi is a safe choice, the XL is nice if you want a big screen but its really bulky and isnt good if your a mobile gamer.

3DS imo is bad for DS games because the visuals dont look as good as they would on a DS type system. I got a headache after 5 mins of playign Pokemon White =[

But if your sitting at home playing RPGs then the DSiXL would be the best choice because you can play with the system plugged in and watch the big screen in your hands and have a lot of fun.

I use the XL because I play at home and usually have it charged =]

While the XL is awesome and the resolution is a little blurry on ds games on a 3ds screen, I have to say go with the 3ds because of all the rpgs that will be coming out for it. Sure your ds games wont look as good, but you'd still get to play them and have the full library of 3ds rpgs as well.

I'm really looking forward to purchasing one or the other. I have also been looking up some of the rpg's on the ds and I think I'll be picking up Radiant Historia.

You've got a lot to choose from. If your from the US, amazon has a lot of games with reduced prices so have a look around, check the dragon quest and final fantasy games especially.

Since i'm out of money and i need a game to pass the time until Skyrim comes out, i'm looking for a game with the following:

-A very high learning curve
-I would like it to be online, but not necessary
-It should be playable for a a decent time in a row without getting bored
-It has to be on the 360 or Mac, Wii goes aswell in the worst case
