I sold my PSP-1000 a while ago, and bought the PSP-3000 Peace Walker bundle the day it came out. However, my PSP had a problem, the square button was very loose, so I have sent it in for an exchange. When it gets back, hopefully fixed, I want to build up my PSP library, as it's such a great system, I think I should own more than 6 games for it. There are a few I've wanted for a while, and a few that I have never tried, but I want everyone's opinion on them.

Phantasy Star Portable.

I have only played Phantasy Star Universe on the PS2, and I quit playing for 2 reasons: Bad voice acting, and getting lost every 6 seconds. Is this game the same, or is it different?

Yggdra Union

I've played this on the GBA, and I'm wondering if it's any different on the PSP...from what I remember, when it came to battles in this game, you literally just watched them happen.

Riviera: The Promised Land

Once again, a GBA game, but I can't remember much of the gameplay for my life, it was turn based, right? Is it the same in this game?

Metal Gear Acid 1 & 2

Okay, I really want these games, it's MGS AND it's strategy, that's pefect for me.

Killzone: Liberation

I really like the top-down view and gameplay of this game, but is it worth the money? I hear it's rather short.

Resistance: Retribution

You're going to think I'm ridiculous for my reasoning behind why I'm not sure about this one, but here it goes. I really like the Resistance franchise, and I don't doubt this one is fun, but I have one problem with getting into it: The main character's name. Don't ask why, but I have a tendency to hate damn near anything with that name or nickname.

anyway, I just wanted to know what you guys thought, and what games I should get.

My favourite Game on the PSP is Monster Hunter, it doesn't change much if you get the first/second or the third one, they're all similiar.

Oh, and my favourite fighting Game of all time is on that system. Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes. Again, 1/2/3 are similiar, they're just updated, so i reccomend picking up the Third one.

Tekken 5:Dark Ressurection simply the best fighter on the system by a long shot the controls are suitable for the psp which makes this a great game to pick up and is relatively cheap now

Dissidia:Final Fantasy - another great game simply suberb and a must own for final fanatsy fans even though its a spin off of sorts even if you dont like final fantasy its still worth a purchase.

Also as overtime said the monster hunter tri games are great even though they're similar. I would reccomend the third one most

Final Fantasy Crisis Core FFVII again a must own if you like ff

Wipeout Pure is a solid sci-fi racer if you are looking for one

Lumines is also worth a look in as its really addictive puzzler

I owned WipeOut Pure at one point, but lost interest since there was no mode where you progressed or anything.

These aren't the droids we're looking for.

At least you have 6; I only have LittleBigPlanet (loving it by the way; lost track of 5 hours the other morning building a level).

I have a limited selection of games to choose from though; my Wal-Mart only has 7 PSP games, and I have one of them xD

-watches thread, waiting for Matt to show up-

Lol, okay Nostalgiaking, I'm here.

In terms of the games you listed, I've only played Resistance Retribution. I thought it was a great game, but I much prefer the Syphon Filters.

From what I've played, I'd say these are the top 8 PSP games PSP owners should play/own:

Patapon 2 I always say this should be the first PSP game you download. EXTREMLY addictive strategy/rythmn game with tons of depth. It's just so satisfying to level up each and every Patapon.

Loco Roco 2 Basically the platformer equivalent of Patapon 2. The level design is fantastic, it's ridiculously cheery and cute, the art direction is fantastic, and there's a lot of replay value in finding each every little item and leveling up each stage. My favorite PSP game.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy I liked every Final Fantasy game I've ever played, but I wouldn't call myself a big FF fan. I can tell you that you don't need to be to enjoy Dissidia. There is a RIDICULOUS amount of content here. I truly consider this the PSP's and Final Fantasy's Super Smash Bros. Brawl, because it's packed with fan service and is easy to get into. Imagine the gameplay as Power Stone with RPG elements. Oh, and the Soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard in a game.

Wipeout Pulse A solid Sci-fi racer with great graphics and audio. I didn't like Pure for the same reason you didn't, but this one has a great Career mode.

Lumines 2 Probably the best Puzzle game I've ever played. The fusion of music with the gameplay is just so cool. Turn out the lights, put on a pair of headphones, and you won't get up for a while. MAny prefer the first one over this one for it's soundtrack, but I'd definatly liked this one more. This one simply has more content, and it's generally cheaper. My big complaint: No downloadable version. I want this on my Go damnit!

Rockband Unplugged One of my absolute favorites on the PSP. I really loved playing through the career, with a band that I named with individual members I named. If you get the UMD vesion it'll come with 40+ songs, if you get the $5 download you get 5 songs. Then you can just build on top of that with DLC.

Little Big Planet This is one of those games where you really get a lot of bang for your buck. Free and priced DLC, user-created content, developer levels, tools to create your own levels; you won't get bored soon.

Hot Shots Holf: Open Tee 1/2 (I've only played the first but I'd imagine the second one is better) Addicting arcady gold right here. You'd be surprised at how addicting it is. Making a nice chip-in or snagging a hole in one give immense satisfaction.

(I haven't played Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker yet, but if I did I'd imagine it woulld be on that list as well)

I love the PSP, and there are more games out there besides those 8!

P.S. You could say I'm a hardcore PSP gamer ;)

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (Vice City Stories is garbage as far as I'm concerned)
Half Minute Hero
God of War: Chains of Olympus
Syphone Filter Series
Age of Zombies
Loco Roco: Midnight Carnival

No and no, really. The developer levels on the PS3 are much better (as there more platformy while the PSP levels are more puzzly), The creation tools are deeper and- to an extent- easier to use on the PS3, the PSP's community is tiny compared to that of the PS3's: You're just getting the better game on the PS3. The PSP version is still good, but if you own both games it's hard to want to play the PSP version unless you're on the go.

I recommend Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles. It's usually $15 in most shops I've seen online and $15 on the Playstation store. I'm a big 2D Castlevania fan and this was my first PSP game. It's a lot of fun and has great graphics for a handheld game. Also, Symphony of Night and the original Rondo of Blood are included. Also, haven't had a chance to play through it all the way yet, but I really enjoyed the hour or so I've played of Jean D'arc (strategy game). It's cheap on the Playstation store, too. Not many recommendations, but I've only had the system for about 2 months now. Haven't got to play too much except my 5 games and a mess of demos.

You're mistaken regarding Yggdra Union. You don't watch the battles, you have a small degree of influence. And it is a tactical RPG, not a beat 'em up. Those battle screens are more for flash than anything else, all of the gameplay is in the stats. It's really awesome, and you should defintely pick it up.

Riviera The Promised Land is a wierd amalgation of turn based game mixed with text based adventure. But once you get used to it, it's easy to enjoy. You should defintely pick this one up.
