For me its call of duty people rant and rave about this game like its god's gift to gaming, It also has a bunch of whinny racist kids playing it every single day and it gets annoying, Not saying every kid is annoying but the vast majority playing mw2 are like that. Overpriced map packs are another thing why pay £11/15$ for 3 new maps and 2 maps which i can play by inserting cod 4. Hackers are also a major drawback which realy takes the fun out of the game. Its obvious activison are just milking the franchise now don't get me wrong call of duty is a great game just overated

Halo by a mile, overrated by the players and by the media. You can almost smell the brown paper bags filled with money changing hands every time you insert the disk in to the 360. MW2 comes in a close second.

Yeah definately Halo most overrated, my friends always tell me how good it is even though i've played it for a while and its good but nothing special. Mw2 is second i agree, after playing for a bit i realised how overrated it was and traded it in.

a close second would have to be mario seriously whats the draw in jumping on goomba's fighting the same old enimie bowser at the end of every game gets boring quickly. It also has a bunch of lame spin off like mario tennis golf baseball etc. Also he is a plumber but we've never seen him near a bathroom

MW2 might be a bit overrated but It's still a very good game. Other Overrated games that come to mind are Halo, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Goldeneye to name a few.

I don't think there's something like an overrated Game. Shure, YOU might think a Game is overrated, but for example if you love Shooters, you'll probably love Call of Duty. By the way, i really like Halo, and i don't think it's overrated, because everything in that Game is just made well in my opinion.
Oh, and if a 11 year old Kid comes telling me Halo is the best Game of all time, just.. don't lissen. :)

Yeah I can't really think of an over-rated series. I would have said GTA but I can understand how much they've impacted gaming; both Halo and CoD have done a lot for the industry as well, I wouldn't say either are over-rated. I'd say Modern Warfare is though... :P

Modern Warfare 2 is. That said, Call of Duty and Halo as a franchise have impacted the FPS genre in a big way. Halo 1 was pretty revolutionary for its time and COD has set the standard for console FPS's for a while now.

Call of Duty multiplayer is the most mind numbing crap I've ever played. It feels so monotonous to me, and I do not see the appeal of it at all. Battlefield is superior in every way.

I won't talk bad about the single player though because I actually like the campaign in COD2, COD4, WaW, and MW2. They just feel so hectic, and great like a summer blockbuster film with lots of explosions. ;)

Oh Kirby too. Kirby is the one Nintendo character whose existence is a mystery to me when Mario, DK, and even Wario are WAY better platforming games than that franchise. Don't care at all about the new String Kirby game either.

Well, They really haven't impacted the FPS Genre that much at all if you think about it. Everything the games did were already around before they were released. I think Wolfenstein, DOOM, and Goldeneye should deserve the most revolutionary FPS games.

Oh I agree with you completely. The basic seeds of the FPS genre were already laid well before Halo and COD. But Halo and COD refined and almost perfected them, IMO.

Perfected is a strong word. Lol, there is so much wrong with the Call of Duty games it's not even funny. Halo one was there, I agree with you there, but 2 3 and ODST hardly had anything to offer.

I think dpower was correct in saying Halo and CoD perfected the Console FPS. Sure other PC shooters came first but the translation to consoles was almost non-existent before Halo. Even Goldeneye's controls were shaky... Sure, Halo hasn't innovated too much since, and neither has the Call of Duty franchise, but both of them together single-handedly defined the console shooter. Regenerating health, dual analog control, efficient online lobbies and solid connections-- none of those would be staples of the genre if those two hadn't implemented them so early.

Half life for me. What they spawned off was "great", but the game themselves aren't, atleast for me.

Halo and Call of Duty are overrated. CoD isn't even the best Combat game on the PC, it is mediocre at best. If they want to fight over the small ant hill of FPS shooters on the console go for it. They are overrated to their genre siblings on the PC in nearly ever way imaginable.

No one said Cod was the 'best Combat game on the PC.' And thanks for that fact-tidbit at the end, at least you proved your point huh?
/facepalm
You completely missed the arguments me and dpower are making and instead of trying to comprehend you just shoved your barely-relevant opinion down our throats for all to see. Hey everbody! Guess which one of us prefers their FPSs on a PC! Go ahead, guess!

For me this has to be halo. They are all really great games i mean i even like odst but come on people. I hear so much praise on how halo 3 change the fps genre forever. To be completely fair it really didnt do anything new or different from halo 2. Also this is my opinion but to me grand theft auto 4 did not do much. I mean San Andreas had pretty much everything in grand theft auto 4 and more.

I'm going to have to say Call of Duty, only because of Modern Warfare 2. If any other game had released with a campaign that short, and a multiplayer that is filled with that many glitches and bugs, it would have been shunned by the gaming community. But since it bears the Call of Duty name people consider it the messiah of the first person shooters. Don't get me wrong i love the game but it's no where near as good as everyone makes it out to be. Plus it seems like they made it more casual friendly, and the maps seem like their made for camping, but those could just be things that only i see.

i would probably say the grand theft auto series. ive had my fill of "mature" crime based sandbox gameplay.
