I'm definitely not trying to be a hater, but the franchises that I find to be the most overrated are:

1. Grand Theft Auto - cloud_leonhart sums up very well how I feel about that series.
2. Halo - too many people take this series entirely too seriously. Arguably, it did great things for gaming, but that still doesn't change the fact that it is just getting monotonous and wearing away it's luster.
3. Call of Duty - I absolutely love Modern Warfare 2. It happens to be a favorite game of mine; however, how many spinoffs can they make for this? They are pushing way too hard on this franchise. Stop while it's still popular before ratings drop. Go out big, making fans want more, not leaving us with the memory of "Ugh...don't remind me of Call of Duty."

I have to say this; in my opinion, the Pokemon Series is overrated. While Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow and Gold/Silver/Crystal are some of my "All Time Favourites", i think the series is just getting to apoint where it's kind of ridicolous. They are releasing the same Game every year, with different Pokemon, and different Main Character. As i said, this is MY opinion.

I really don't get why people keep calling call of duty 'overrated'
I mean personally i kinda agree but then again, call of duty is one of the best if not the best (imo the 3rd best) first person shooter series. There arent many fps games that are even comparable with the newest call of duty games. I mean seriously.. the controls, guns, maps, etc.. are AMAZING.

But yeah to answer this: One game series that has been getting on my nerve for a long time already has been the pokemon series. I loved it when i was a kid and then grew out of it. I can still acknowledge the awesome idea of pokemon but cmon.. The only major upgrade the series has had in the last 5years has been the removal of those freaking zubats that everyone hates.

I have a few for various reasons. Just my own personal opinions

1. Grand Theft Auto - I am not one for mature games in general (minus a very select few games), aside from that, I do not see the point in these games. Going around committing crimes and doing hateful things really does not appeal to me.

2. Call of Duty - This series used to be good, mainly for the single player as I enjoyed that more than the multiplayer. Nowadays the single player seems so rushed and the multiplayer is not balanced to use not good with quick reactions and disabilities. Plus the community online (at least for the PC) for Black Ops is pretty bad, ran into a lot of hackers and racists so that brought down the experience for me.

3. Uncharted - While I do love Naughty Dog's work on the original Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter games, I personally find Uncharted to be a bit lacking compared to those games. It seems like a non mature rated Gears of War to me with the cover system and how the combat is. Also the games to me were rather short. I like the series though, I think the graphics are amazing but I got bored of them quickly.

4. Metal Gear Solid - While I liked the third game a fair amount (the Subsistence version), I personally could not really get into the other games in the series due to having difficulty with the controls. Great graphics and music though, which is a plus.

5. God of War - I honestly cannot stand these games at all. While the graphics are nice and the music is okay, it just seems like one big long quick time event and mashing the same combos over and over. The over the top story and voice acting ruined the games for me as well.
