Hey how is everyone, Uni is starting for me in a fortnight (First semester ever) and I have to ask. I have a side job its a data entry one at a government taxation office, its only temp but its 4 hours a day (2:30-6:30pm). Anyways with uni starting which would be 3 long days if I quit work or 4 shorter days if I stay at work, I was considering leaving the job, but I am really unsure, like the last 6 months have been like hell for me I dropped out of a uni course, I done nothing up to last month when I got this contract job and I haven't felt great but atleast I know im doing something, now however I am worried if I leave the job for uni, I will become very lazy again and struggle to go to work again. Starting this Tax job was really difficult its self the first week I just felt depressed and unhappy but starting with the 2nd week its been good, its easy work (repetitive) but coming from someone who worked at Mcdonalds for 3 years its like heaven :P. I am not sure what to do, I fear both situations, I fear them both at once because I don't want to get miserable of constantly rushing here and there, but I also fear leaving and then never wanting to work again :S? Thanks heaps |

Do you have a loan sorted / enough money to last you through the year? My one major regret in life is not going to university, and the fresher year is to be enjoyed to the max. Study hard, drink and party harder. You don't wanna have to skip on social engagements due to a shitty data entry job. Have a bit of fun man, dont worry about it. Enjoy yourself.

Well yea the loan is automatic here in Australia and you only start paying it off once you earn over 60,000au. Money wise I have about 220au a fortnight I know its nothing because after everything I only have about 120 left, but saying that it IS enough, just not as much as I'd want.I think my main concern is looking back because I dropped out of uni last time, I just fear being in that position again where I am at home, doing nothing feeling like a loser :S that is my biggest fear. |

No disrespect to you Dazz, you can't live your life like that, with failure always being a huge concern. The more you worry, the more you fuck up, the more chance you have at failing. If you're honestly scared of failing, use that fear to drive you forwards, so you won't fail. No matter what. My opinion still stands, I'd personally shitcan the job so I can focus entirely on Uni. Less distracting me from whats important. Studying and women ;D |

Just saying, it's 4 hours out of each day, which you can use in other areas, extra study, or something to relax, take the stress off the day. I did 4 shifts at McDonalds. Never, EVER. Again. Ever. I still have nightmares. |

I done atleast 300 at Mcdonalds in my 3 years there hahahaha, Im glad for that though my expectation of a work place is probably 10x lower than a person who hasn't worked there. |

Back to topic... See how it goes. As it's a temporary job, it should be pretty easy to quit. Start Uni, if the pressure seems like too much, you can quit your part time job, and focus on your studies. When it comes to second year, I'd strongly advise against holding a job in addition to studying. That's when stuff gets really tough. Incidently, what are you going to be studying? |

Teaching... As I'm sure you're already aware, teaching is an extremely stressful occupation. My mumma was forcibly retired from being a teacher at the age of 50 due to stress induced mental illness. Keep it simply matey, just do the Uni course

I've worked countless shifts at pizza hut but i dont think i could hack McDonalds...i dont like to eat it so i couldnt bear to make it haha. Hell you could even see how it goes in the first year with the job, save a bit of cash and when the second year comes around just kick the job. Though as andsy said...the uni work is far more important. |

In reading through your posts, it seems like you approach life changes with a sense of fear and dread. While fear of failure is common and understandable, you can't let that hold you back from doing what you need to do. Take it from me, get your schooling done while you're still young. I didn't start university until this past year, and now I am balancing that on top of a full time and high demand job. I am not complaining, but there is a part of me that wishes I had done my studies earlier. The jobs you are talking about, such as data entry and food service, are supposed to be temporary. Put your schooling first and you'll be much happier in the long run. |
