Some PS3 games will NOT DISPLAY CORRECTLY on my widescreen TV; Fallout 3 stretched out and is the only game that does it.

I'm sure I have the settings right, as most games look as they should...but one that I own in particular does not. Fallout 3. No matter what I change the settings to, it doesn't display the way it should. All the circular objects are ovular, and I can't get them to display right unless I change the settings on my TV from wide to normal, which just makes it harder to see, and is quite annoying. There has to be some way to fix this...

My PS3 is connected with AV cables, not HDMI, could that be the problem? None of my other games have this problem, so I don't see why it would be.

Any help is really appreciated.

When you say AV, could you expand on this abit further please? AV stands for Audio / Visual, so you're not really giving us any information.

Are we talking:

SCART?
VGA?
Component?
Composite?
RGB?
S-Video?

Uhm...honestly, couldn't really tell you. They are the typical red, yellow, and white ones.

You're using RCA connectors then, which we call RGB / SCART over here in Europe.

Basically, 2 of the wires are for audio, the 3rd is for video, using the Composite standard.

The composite standards were used previous the NES era, and do not support nice HD graphics or aspect ratios. So yes, your shapes will appear distorted.

If you want the full experience, I'd suggest upgrading to HDMI. Or at worst, component.

Ds Games!

It's 100% worth the money to go with HDMI, If you have a tv supporting HD, and a ps3, you owe it to yourself and your ps3.

If you do plan to get an HDMI cable, avoid retailers. They like to charge a fortune for a $5 ebay cable :/

At the very least you need to use component: red blue green + red and white audio. That will do 1080i/720p but if you want to do it proper then HDMI will give you blue ray superiority.

Hmmm... Fallout 3... perhaps the issue is that you made your character too short and he has a skewed view of reality :D

In all reality, the 360 and PS3 both have the capability to 'simulate' the 16:9 instead of using the 4:3 aspect ratio. Considering that you are using A/V this comes into play. I would check in your video settings on your console, and try both aspect ratios trying the game on each one. It may be the case that the game just doesn't work well with one of the settings. Also, while in both settings on your console, try both settings on your TV as well. That should give you at least 4 different combinations of TV/Console setups, and one of them should work well.

Take the advice in this thread and buy an HDMI or Componenet cable. You'll be blown away by what you've been missing.
