About:

Dragon Quest 9, is the latest installment in the longrunning Dragon Quest series, and the first installment to be released exclusively on a handheld console (the Nintendo DS).

DQIX is a turn based RPG, with additional multiplayer components. You'll be able to connect to up to 3 friends LOCALLY to take on the main quest. Unfortunately DQIX doesn't support online play. However it does boast an online 'shop' where you can download additional quests for free, and purchase additional items using ingame currency.

My thoughts:

I hate JRPGS. They really, really suck.

I love DQ9. It swims in personality, the storyline isn't your stereotypical crappy Japanese angst-ladyboy nonsense. There are no huge ass swords, not does the storyline get in the way of you smacking the crap out of monsters.

Player customization is a neat feature, but isn't as deep as Nintendo would want you to believe.

Picked up the game yesterday and I'm about 3 hours in.

I'm really enjoying the game. The character customization is really cool, I really like how everything you buy and apply to your character is always showing on it, whether you're roaming around or in battle. On top of your experience and class, it really makes you attatched to your character which I really love in RPG's. The Story is much better than I expected, it's one of the most original RPG stories I've ever seen. It's really interesting to see how you, an angel who answers prayers, interacts with those who make the prayers. I'm constantly surprised at just how religious games in this series get. The graphics are very nice, it's all very colorful, and the items and environments have a nice sense of detail. I also like how there are some sprites thrown in for bushes and some characters. The music is all very nice, there's some original stuff (AWESOME battle theme), and some more familiar stuff that's still good but may tire more veteran DQ fans. And I'm enjoying the battle system, it's not outrageously new but I don't think it has to be. I like how each monster and character actually attacks their opponent rather that attacking the air Pokemon style. I also like how the characters move around the battle screen to add some visual flair to battle.

I'm loving it and totally ready to throw a solid 100 hours into it.

Ds Games!

Do you guys have a favorite monster so far? In nintendo power there was a list of some of the monsters and they're are some really great looking ones from what I see, either because they're interesting or just plain funny. That Cruelcumber had me laughing when I saw it.

Hmm, lemme boot the game up and look at my Monster List...
Here we go! Let's see here... I'm gonna say that the Spirit from the Zombie Family is my favorite. It's just hilarious to me that a Grim Reaper-looking creature, something that looks like a being that controls death, looks so innocent and cheery.

METAL SLIME. Because it gives you an obscene amount of XP.

OR

Sanchini, because it's a cute floating... mouse? That'll rough you up. :D

I'm about 16 hours in, and despite hating JRPGs, I'm loving this game and it's taking every spare moment I have.

Welp, I havent touched any of my home consoles in a week now thanks to DQ9, and I've just beat the end boss.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to finishing the post game quests and dungeons.

Anyone with a DS needs this game. Fact.

Cool! How long did it take you to beat it?

As for my progress report: I'm about 13-14 hours in, and still thoroughly enjoying it. The battles are getting a little tedius, but nothing making me want to stop.

Oh, 50 hours, no sidequests undertaken.

Post game is where the game REALLY begins. Gunna slam the side quests, dungeons, and collect all the gear I can :D

Man, I know I've said it a million and one times, but I hate JRPGS, and this game is definitely my game of 2010 so far. Dunno if anything will be able to top it.

I love this game to bits.

I went into this not really knowing what to expect. I saw a couple of reviews and heard one of my friends talking about how DQVIII was his favourite game on the PS2, which surprised me 'cause I would have thought it would have been FFX or SOTC 'cause he loves those games.

anyway myself I haven't really played any RPGs aside from Paper Mario and Pokemon but I have to say this by far is definitely an absolute must buy for anyone who owns a DS and like RPGs. I'm something like 15/16 hours in and I know for a fact I have barely scratched the surface.

I've had it for almost a week and I haven't been able to play it as much as I would like; I've only managed to get about an hour or two into it (at my pace, which is like 45 minutes xD). From what I've played, I'm really enjoying it!

Well none of the original Dragon Quests were whiny emo bs btw....either. They were though completely engrossing single player oriented games and had a story and varied character development (meaning some games had it more than others). Anyways....

I haven't tried this one out though because it's for the DS which I never bought and I thought it was mostly a network oriented game. As far as I know it is a local based experience, you don't just log onto a server and find people to play with. So not only would I have to own the game and a DS but I would have to know people here who own a DS and that game.

I'm still interested in this game, but I was trying to find some gameplay vids and stuff on youtube before and I just wasn't seeing it.

Slowbeef: Hold on it's the evil wizard who's spinning and striking a pose. And also giant swords, why the hell not.

I've been playing solo-only and I'm 14 hours in. And thoroughly enjoying it, I don't think too may people will have a problem with playing solo.
