Ive been cutting myself for a few years now and I was wondering if anyone else here cut themselves. I know that it is a very odd topic and that there are sites for stuff like this, but im curious. Dont be shy to answer. |

No and if you really do (can't tell if this topic is sarcastic or not) you should really get some help. Definitely not something someone of sound mind does, ya know? |

Im not being sarcastic, I started cutting myself for something to help relieve stress. I tried stopping for about 6 months before I couldnt take it any longer and I started cutting again. For the record, I cut my legs mostly to hide the scars. |

I'd cut myself too if I thought the NES was the best system... Joking. But really, you shouldn't be doing that- that's not the only way to deal with stress and it's probably only making it worse. |

That's creepy, no I don't cut myself on purpose. Have you tried other ways of relieving stress? What helps me are cardiovascular type excercises like bike riding, and jogging. Or if I'm lazy smoking a bowl or two helps

No, that's really gross, freaky, and weird to be honest =/ Use Bardabar's advice since there are definitely healthier, safer ways to relieve stress than doing that. |

I'll admit, I used to put my arm on the ol' choppin block back in high school. Looking back, I think it was a weird teenage phase. It's called self-mutilation. But let me warn you right now - those scars do not go away, so i'd stop now if i were you so you dont have people asking you when youre older why you have tic-tac toe etched into your forearm! |

Its actually called self harming. Self mutilation can be offensive nowadays. And about the scars, most of my really bad scars are on my upper legs where nobody can see them |

OK, I'll bite. I used to, as I thought it may ease some of the strain of the emotion baggage and OMG EMO TEENAGE PHASE I was going through, but let me tell you something... It's really fucking pointless. A) It doesn't help. B) It doesn't deal with the reasons why you feel down C) It makes you look like an attention seeking dumb ass kid Identify the reasons, deal with the reasons. |

The reasons I cut is that I feel lonely and worthless. It makes me feel good at first, but then it slowly goes away and I feel worthless again |

Well when you eventually find someone who you end up being with, I'm pretty sure they will ask why your legs are scarred like that. You said it yourself, when the "high" goes away you feel the same. Isn't that the same as an alcoholic drinking to feel good when they are drinking, but feeling crappy when it's gone? It doesn't solve the problem. If you really feel worthless or lonely then go do things that require you to do things that you are needed (i.e. team sport). Also, to relieve stress, why not just do something that you enjoy that doesn't involve hurting yourself? Being that it's something you enjoy, it's clear that it's important to you and you should feel good when you do it. You are a part of this forum, why not play some games that you really enjoy

Well I was a goth guy in high school. And yes, I took part in cutting myself. At the time I did it it was the cool thing to do. There was a huge group of us that did it. There was even hot chicks doing it. But after I did it I felt pretty stupid. I'm glad I didn't go all out like other people. Some people I knew had cuts ALL OVER their bodies and went to school like that. Either way, there's better things to do than cut yourself. Weed is good. And of course sex is always fun. Oh and tattoos and piercings might be perfect for you. |

I never have, but i knew a girl that did. It wasnt tiny little ones either, it was big gouges out of her arm with broken bottles and things that dont leave nice straight marks. Needless to say her arms and legs are a fuckin mess. Though she had some real mad issues. Like mentioned earlier, deal with the actual problem. Its strange how exercise can really improve your mental health and relief boredom etc. I've been through heavy drinking and depression before and taking time to work out or even just go for a walk can really help your mindframe. You may think you arent worth anything and your not as good as some other people but a lot of people think like that. Everyone is a little mad...some are just better at covering it up. |

I never have and never will self harm (or harm others for that matter) if i was ever stressed. This is just a very unhealthy phase that shouldn't be supported or promoted anywhere. I honestly sometimes resorted to playing my video games if I was angry or quite stressed but the best alternative is exercise to relieve it. Whatever your problems are you have to talk to someone about it, a family member is helpful or a friend you know. I'm going through a tough phase with my parents getting a divorce at the moment but I hang out with one of my mates to chill out and play some football and it helps. |

Cutting is not solving any of the issues you speak of, its a temporary and unhealthy fix that is not actually helping the root of the problem. You should seriously seek some help for that, not trying to sound like an ass or anything but cutting really doesn't help even if you think it does. Did it make the issue at hand go away? No. You say you get some stress relief....I have heard heroin addicts say the same thing, same with alcoholics. Your stress might be gone momentarily but it will be back. If you find the psychological root of the issue and learn to handle it in a healthy matter you will be much better off man |
