All my gaming career (83 to now), we've seen new consoles released rapidly, maybe around every 5 or 6 years, but not this time. This generation is supposed to last longer than all the others and it's driving me crazy. I don't like to see technology stand still. It drives me nuts if it's not constantly moving forward. Does anyone else feel this way? I know we can still get good games on our current hardware, but that's not the point. I guess I got used to expecting change. We go through a 5 year cycle and move onto something new. It keeps things interesting, keeps it fresh, renews interest in old genres remade onto new consoles. It's not even all about the graphics either. Just the fact that we don't have any new consoles to look forward to. Just seems to be getting stale. Anyone else agree or are you glad this generation is going to last longer than previous ones? I don't mean to rain on your parade if so, but I'm used to the 5-year-cycle and it's driving me nuts that it's being broken. |

I got into the Ps3 a bit late, so to me it's still not too old, although not new either. I wouldn't want a new one too soon because I've only had my ps3 a couple of years, but I would be interested in learning about a PS4. As far as hand held gaming goes, well we have the 3ds coming so this way I have one major release to look forward to

I think console lifespans will definitely be longer than the 5-6 year cycle we're used to. Developers haven't even tapped into the real potential of the PS3 at this point and it's been out since 2006. Heck, they're STILL making PS2 games! Nowadays, the cost of researching and developing new hardware wouldn't help these businesses. They lose money on the hardware they produce already, so as long as they can patch it up and release incremental improvements, from a business standpoint it makes more sense. I think in the long run this benefits the consumer as well. Instead of having to buy a new system every 5 years, you can buy one and have it last for 10 years (besides the whole red ring of death thing lol). Games only get better as the system gets older, so I think we've only seen some of the potential. |

The Graphics have nearly reached their max. (Except for Nintendo). Now with 3D and stuff, i don't think the graphics will get much better, so there's not much reason to make a new system, even if i think they're going to. And BTW the next Generation is going to start with the 3DS, Sony and Microsoft will try to hold up with Nintendo, and so we'll be going in the next generation. im happy that it takes time for the next gen, mainly cause it means i dont have to spend from 200 to 300 euros on a new system and hundreds more for new games every few years. i hope the 360 and ps3 last for atleast 2012-14 |

I hope this generation of gaming lasts a little bit longer. It doesn't really bother me, beause I'm quite a few generations behind anyway. I just don't really understand the need to play or experience something new. Like KingJames, I got into the PS3 fairly late. I bought my Frist X-Box 360 only just a couple of months ago. I have a pet peeve that I never buy a system when it first comes out because I obviously wait for the price to drop a bit and the bugs to be worked out of the system. I think that if its not broke don't fix it, and I'm not really interested in gaming consistently breaking the bar after every 5 years; I'll probably enjoy an older generation game just as much as playing a current generation game. We'll eventually move into another generation of consoles, but I say no rush, it'll come when it'll come because I'm far from being unimpressed or bored from this generation of consoles. I think its important to know, that we need to take pride in what we have, and never get too bogged down by what we could have in the future. Our attention spans shouldn't be that short. |

I agree with you that their definitely lasting longer then we're used to. Buuuuuuuut I think that's a good thing. It leaves more time to develop and release more games and add-ons, unlike having a console been thrown out as fast as possible with maybe 10 crappy games before moving on. *ahem*32x*ahem* |

I agree and disgaree at the same time, because there are some great games being soon released, and I don't want to buy them and have to buy a new console soon after buying a new game on an old console. Also, with the Xbox 360, they upgraded the console AND are releasing Kinect, so I seriously doubt a new Xbox anytime soon. |

The gaming industry is raking in more money than ever in the last few years mainly because of the latest generation of consoles. The oppurtunity and potential of them stretches furthur than any other. A wider audience is being targeted so the companies will keep producing more add-ons and games until they realise the console has reached its full potential and they decide to develop a brand new one. I'm not too bothered about the added few years on between each system, it gives me a chance to get the most out of each system without worrying about having to buy a new one to follow the trend. Although, I would like to hear rumours for the next generation systems soon. |

excuse me but what are you talking about "upgraded xbox 360"?? you mean the new slim version of it?? it has no real technical upgrades at all, only things new on it is guieter noise built in wifi and bigger memory and those are not really any real upgrades for the console itself it does not improve performance or anything |

My only real issue with current-gen console games is a lot of them have framerate issues. I like my games to be butterly smooth and not dips in framerates. I wouldn't mind the same graphics as long as what we already have just plays better in general. My only issue is I'm used to the 5 year cycle and finding it frustrating that we seemed to have hit a wall. I could stick with current gen for a long, no problem. Closest thing I can think of is expecting to get a day off work and then having to go in anyway. |

I think this generation has many years left and I find that a good thing. With advanced technology comes higher development costs. You already have games like Killzone 2 costing as much as some movie budgets. More and more development companies are either being bought out or simply closing shop. I believe that the motion control systems that are soon to be released will be a substitute for new consoles for PS3 and 360 and if any company jumps first with a new console I see it being Nintendo |
