For the past 10 years, I have been contemplating getting a tattoo, but given the fact that I'm a chicken with needles and lacking a good design, it hasn't happened yet. For my 30th birthday, I finally decided to get the tattoo I've always wanted and it will be something of special significance to me. I'm a big music fan and my two favorite albums of all time are "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd and "London Calling" by The Clash, and I want to tattoo the cover art from both albums on my upper arms. This may seem strange to some, but music has played and integral part in my life and both albums hold special meaning to me. I am probably going to get the first one in September and the next one sometime later, probably in the new year but this depends on the cost.

Anyone else here into getting tattoos? Any stories to share about the ones you have (or are thinking about getting)?

LONDON CALLING<3 One of the best albums of all time. I'd say go for it, you only live once. I think they're awesome and if I find a design I really like I think I'd get one (although I'm not a huge needle fan either.) The problem with me is, I'm only 18 and my interests change by the day. Although a reddish-pink heart with the word 'MOTHER' in black bold letters inside it would be awesome: citing both my love for my mom and the brilliant JRPG series.

Also, I'm thinking about getting the Clockwork Orange cover on my other shoulder. I think it's awesome, but as I say: my interests are ever-changing.

I would most likely get a tattoo of my last name on the inside of my right arm, it's something that's never going to change and it's also pretty unique.

I wouldn't get a tattoo of a band that I liked because I know that in 10 years time my tastes will change. Also, I feel sorry for all those people with "The Who" (Pete townsend, the convicted sex offender) tattoos or a Gary Glitter (convicted pedophile) tattoo.

^ Wasn't Townsend pardoned or something? Not really a huge fan of The Who, so sorry if I'm a bit ignorant to it.

But if I got an album cover tattoo, it would be this one:

But a tattoo I would most likely get is a Robin (The name of my deceased aunt) carrying a parchment listing the names of people I've lost.

That or one with a hawk with flaming tail feathers, symbolic of the English meaning of my name.

"Is the WHO’s Pete Townshend a sex offender? Depends on who you believe and what constitutes an offense. Was he dumb enough to use his credit card to access a child porn site? Yes. Was he cleared of Child porn charges? Yes. So what’s the big deal? Despite an investigation that turned up no child porn evidence in his home or computer, Pete Townshend still used his credit card to access a site which had child porn on it; he told the authorities it was for research he was doing. And for that offense he had to register as a sex offender in the United Kingdom from 2003 to 2008."

This proves that if you've got enough money you can get away with almost anything.

I believe that Pete Townshend was cautioned but never actually charged with a criminal offense. Accessing illegal images is a lesser offense than creating or distributing them, so what he got was pretty standard. If he was an actual pedophile like Gary Glitter, things would have turned out very different.

Back to the tattoo topic, the decision to get a band tattoo is risky for the reasons you have outlined, but moreso because tastes change and fads come and go. I've heard of people getting Twilight, Lady Ga Ga and Justin Bieber tattoos and I wonder how relevant these will be to them years down the road. In my case, Pink Floyd and The Clash have been my favorite bands since I was a kid and both albums are special to me, so I am less likely to regret it in the future.

10 points for nerdy awesomeness!

I have long considered getting a tattoo, but I've never been able to decide on the appropriate image. I don't want an actual picture or anything, but more of a symbol (preferably solid black, and fairly basic). I'm sure I'll come up with something, some day.

As for bands, the only music related tattoo I would consider getting would be the Audioslave flame logo (a small one, though, solid black), as their first album really helped me through some very tough personal times.

Maybe you can get the flame logo then then the Audioslave logo right under it than the whole album i think it would look better ;)

Big ZOE fan were you... yeah me too. :P

Seriously though, that's awesome!! And getting the W.Y. logo is such an epic idea, I'm jealous I didn't think of it!!!

I have a huge dragon on my left leg that I got when I was starting college, and will definitely get more tats in the future.

I'm working on a tasteful design to fit the 'staff of asclepius' on my left wrist with:

'Idiopathic Anaphylaxis' underneath.

Reason? I can go into anaphylaxis without any notice (throat closes). I have no idea what I'm allergic to, and it can kill me. By having this on my wrist, I hope it'll help if I ever fall unconscious through my condition.

You get bracelets and necklaces that do the same thing, but I HATE jewelary with a passion. Plus, I'd forget to wear them.

I love you, Andsy. :p

I'm terrified of needles, but one day, I hope to overcome that just enough to get a tattoo. I really want to get lyrics to the song "Drowning Lessons" by My Chemical Romance on my back, complete. Not as crazy as it sounds, the song doesn't have a chorus, it's all verses! So it's kind of short.

Why so? I think tattoos can be rather tasteful and expressive, and while overdoing it is not exactly something I'd do, each to their own. Some tattoos are cliche (barb wire across the arm, the "tramp stamp", etc), but I like it when people design their own and take the step to have it done.

I just don't like them. LOL

I wasn't trying to insult those who have tattoos, I just don't like 'em. ^_^

My first tatoo was of the Autobot Insignia on my arm. I had no pain when they were tatooing on my muscle, but when they hit bone I about went through the roof. It really hurts there. Afterwards I was told that it would be a horrible pain, it didn't hurt at all.

My next tatoo will be a portrait of my kids when they were little. Once you get one tatoo, you are hooked and want more.
