I'm going to be buying a DS Lite in 2 days due to my 360 red lighting again! Was planning on buying a DS anyway so it'll be a good time to get one now. I'm looking to get a good RPG to play whilst my 360 is shipped off. I'm also thinking of getting super mario 64 DS, anyone know if it's any good? thanks

Chrono Trigger is the #1 RPG you should have for a DS. Phantasy Star Zero is highly rated as well. Super Mario 64 DS is a good game. Not having an analog stick does have slight problems with control, but it still still a great game. |

I have to agree that many of these are very great game, but I think DQ 4 should be on the list, as well as the dark spire, etrian odyssey, nostalgia and maybe even glory of heracles. Tons of choices on the ds, so look into them all and see which your most interested in that you can find somewhere still. |

Another great Atlus game to check out is Legacy of Ys: Books I & II. Games like Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest are obvious choices, but this game often gets overlooked and I think more people should have it, especially in this collectin since you get two fantastic action RPGs in one cart. |

thanks for all the replies! i'm thinking of getting mario 64 and mario kart DS too possibly. I'm also probably going to get a pokemon game, even though im not a fan of it, i remember how addicting the games were on the game boy.. dragon quest is also an option, chrono trigger looks interesting too. anyone know of any RPG's similar to the pokemon style that aren't pokemon related? |

DQ 5 and monsters joker as well I believe both have monster collection aspects, and the SMT game Strange Journey let's you recruit demons to fight for you as you go through the dungeons. |

I'd highly recommend Magical Starsign and Summon Night: Twin Age. Just noticed they haven't been mentioned yet. :C |

If there is one rpg any ds owned should have it is The World Ends With You. Hands down my favorite ds game of all time. The battle system may turn you off for the first little bit, but keep playing and I'm sure you'll love it. |

Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest V are both amazing games. Some of these other recommendations are also good games. That being sad, the quintessential DS RPG is The World Ends With You. First of all, this is an excellent game. The gameplay is amazing and a one of a kind, the graphics are in beautiful 2D glory, and is one of the best looking DS games. The music all has lyrics, and is similar in style to Jet Grind Radio mixed with Final Fantasy, and just sounds incredible. This is a game for the headphones. So far, I've just been talking about how this is one of the best games ever. Big deal. So are Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest V. But the reason this game is quintessential is because it could only be done on the DS. It was built for the DS, and it shows. It even takes advantage of the qurkieer, less used aspects of the DS. Heck, the only thing it doesn't use is online. The World Ends With You is the perfect bookend to the DS. I just can't imagine a DS collection without it. EDIT Forgot to say the story is great too. Realy nice and interesting characters, and a very unique plot. Edited by RefaTheGreat, Aug 20 2010, 12:44 AM.

Can we please fix the quoting system? Pretty please?

Get Dragon Quest IX. It's the best RPG i've played so far on the DS. |

Since most of the other stuff has already been mentioned by other members in one way or another I'll throw these ones out Fire Emblem: The Shadow Dragon Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime Rhapsody: A musical adventure and I can mention that you should likely stay away from Rondo of Swords and Lunar: Dragon Song. Not sure about the Hoshigami remix and if it's scaled back the difficulty from the PS1 release or not but it could be interesting to check out if you like something with challenge. |
