So I found this article that says the PS3 slim will never get backwards compatibility as Sony is focusing on PS3 and Blu-ray. Doesn't matter to me though, backwards compatibility isn't everything, especially when PS2s are 40-50$ at gamestop depending on what version.

Yeah, I have one of those backwards compatible models and it has lots of problems with certain PS2 games, so I just ignore it and use an actual PS2. After all the loud crackling noises and popping in Dragon Quest 8, I had enough of it as a PS2.

I just hung on to my PS2. I prefer to play the games on the system they were made for.

Backwards compatibility can be useful, but I don't really care about it. My logic: if you want to play games on a system, go and buy that system.

Well I use my PS3 to play all my PS2 and PSX games (except for the rare couple that won't run on the PS3). It's pretty convenient that way and I got my old PS2 back and hooked up to my lcd monitor for the computer (which doubles as a lcd tv). So yeah now I can run two systems at once (again more easily).

A long time ago I had two traditional crt tvs in my room, but my room is just really too small to fit two crt tvs and my then I had a old traditional computer monitor too haha

As far as the slim not supporting PS2 games that doesn't surprise me as the whole reason the slim was sold cheaper was the fact that they removed PS2 compatibility.

The fact that the PS3 slim will never have PS2 B/C does not surprise me at all. I do not really mind either. I bought a PS3 to play PS3 and PS games. I have a PS2 (slim) to play PS2 games.

It is time to look ahead to the future, with a lot of older games becoming easier and easier to access, backwards compatibility should not be something that should define a video game system.

I know it was really great when the PS2 came out good while ago, and you can't help if its convenient. With a lot of older consoles becoming relatively cheap, it would be just as easier to buy the system that the game was meant to be played on.

Two things on this. Some of the older systems are starting to get a lot rarer to find in working condition. The PS1 and 2 may not be in that boat yet, but eventually they will be, and the only option upon buying one will be to play it and risk losing it forever, or to preserve it and stare at your pretty collection of games.

Also, when I buy a new computer or upgrade, I want it to be able to run the programs I had on my last computer without having to re-buy them all. Occaisionally they will phase out and be replaced, but even on my current gen computer I can run dos programs in a free dos emulator and it's completely legal considering I own the program. Today's consoles are basically computers with a specific purpose. Why should they be held to a different standard?

All that being said, I'll continue to buy newer game consoles regardless of BC, but it is a HUGE factor in determining how much I like the console. Sony lost points with me when they removed the BC in favor of reducing the price of the system. I think most people will find it's a ploy to gain sales on 2 consoles at once, since there was still a huge PS2 market at the time.
