Considering an original Xbox, but I have some concerns.

Seeing as I now have every major console I want, as I just acquired a Sega Dreamcast, I am now moving on to what I said I would only get after doing the above, and I may be possibly getting an original Xbox. I am NOT considering a 360, because honestly, I don't trust the things hardware as far as I can throw it. What I want to know is how the original Xbox holds up. Does/did it have any major malfunction problems, glitches, or anything like that? Or was it a decent system with far-and-few-between flaws?

Also, what games are there for me? I have a rule where a system must have at least 10 games I want for it before I buy it. With that said, I do NOT want any shooters for the system, INCLUDING HALO.

I know I want Jet Set Radio Future, but I also want some RPGs for the system...if there are any. Platformers would be nice also. I guess I'm probably looking for rarer games for the system just by stating that.

But anyway, let me know if you have any info, as it will ultimately decide if I shell out for it or not.

Also, keep the game suggestions to Xbox exclusives, if it came out on any other system such as the PS2 or GC, then I would get it for that system before I get it for the Xbox.

GAMES I'M CONSIDERING SO FAR:

Jet Set Radio Future
Advent Rising
Fable: The Last Chapters
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Voodoo Vince
KOTOR
KOTOR II
Whacked!

Surprised this has no responses, but I'm also wondering if there are any differences between models or anything. I look them up and I see that there are options to buy an 01/02 model or 03/04/05 model...what are the differences?

I don't know any differences between the models but the hardware is very reliable. I actually haven't heard of any stories of broken xboxes.
Funny how it's successor is the complete opposite.

Completely agree with this. I haven't had a single problem with my Xbox since I got it last year.

As for games, I still have very few games (probably somewhere around 10 games :P). I still need to pick up a lot of the gems, but the Xbox does have games like Elder Scrolls III and Fable: The Lost Chapters which are some great games.

Again, I don't know much about the system's exclusives and what not since I still have like no games, but the Xbox has great multiplatform games as well.

Yea the xbox beat the ps2 in reliability its a very safe system.
games
Star wars knights of the old republic
Star wars knights of the old republic the sith lords
Fable
ninja gaiden
The elder scrolls III Morrowind
jade empire
Arx Fatalis
I know you said no shooters but i think everyone who has played this game has to recommend it. It really is a great game. Its not a first person shooter either
Armed and Dangerous. The game has a sharkzooka so it is at least worth a look
Amped 2
Bloody roar extreme
Conker Live and reloaded
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO
Dead or Alive Ultimate
Dead or Alive 3
Enclave
Guilty Gear X2 #Reload
indigo prophecy
JSRF: Jet Set Radio Future
Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders
Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes
Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden Black
Oddworld Stranger's Wrath
Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee
Otogi: Myth of Demons
Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors
Psychonauts
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Project gotham racing
Project Gotham Racing 2
Quantum Redshift
RoadKill
Thief: Deadly Shadows
The warriors

This is just the general of my xbox game list that i want to get. Also why do you not want any shooters (or is it just first person shooters cause i will add more games if its just first person shooters your not interested in.) I'll just say this in case you didnt know but pretty much all of the unreal games are on the xbox and so are the starwar games. Unless your a pc gamer this is like the only place you can play those.

I wouldn't go THAT far...I've had my PS2 fat since launch day, and it hasn't died on me once. Now my slim did, but I also didn't take care of that one...

Are all of those games complete exclusives, not just souped up versions of other games?

Had mine for like 5-6 years and it still works perfectly and theres still heaps of space on the drive.

The only grumble i have is that you need a remote to watch dvds, you dont even get the option otherwise.
Not that it matters nowadays with DVD players being pretty common place now.

Also, if you are considering getting Fable; get Fable: The Lost Chapters. It is basically Fable with extra quests and decisions added into the mix at some point in the game.

My PS2, PS3, and TV will cover DVD and Blue-Rays. What I want it for is exclusive games that I may have missed out on.

I also have my original ps2 but looking at failure rates for all the consoles the ps2 failed the most. I know quite a bit of people who had to replace there ps2 and i dont know anybody who had to replace there original xbox.
And most of them are original if you said you didn't want multiplatform games then im sorry i missed that in your original post. Games like Psychonauts though which was originally on the xbox but got ported over to the ps2 later are better on the xbox. Psychonauts on the ps2 has a lot of load problems and i have experience more lag on the ps2 version. So since it was originally on the xbox i would say to get Psychonauts on the xbox. Indigo prophecy and the warriors are the only multiplatform games i believe i put up there though. I dont know if bloody roar extreme is a souped up version of the other games but i never saw bloody war extreme anywhere else so i think thats a xbox exclusive.

The original Xbox is a tank and there are some great games for it (Fable: The Lost Chapters is amazing,) but I have found 1 problem with mine, and it's one that my friends have had to deal with as well. I've had my original Xbox for 6? years now, and every once in a while the disc tray won't eject when I push the button. All I have to do is press it again and it works, but my friends' Xbox won't open at all anymore. Mind you, he bought his at launch. TBH not a huge problem, or a deal-breaker by any means, but just a tad annoying. And yes, it's a shame the Xbox hardware is so faulty, there are some amazing RPGs on it: Mass Effect series, Lost Odyssey, Oblivion, Tales of Vesperia...

So, here the games I'm considering.

KOTOR
KOTOR II
Jet Set Radio Future
Fable: The Lost Chapters (This is an extended version of the original game, correct?)
Advent Rising

Any really good action RPG's or turn based RPG's on the system?

I don't think there are any amazing RPG's for the XBOX, hence why it probably tanked so much in Japan.

I prefered the XBOX version fo The Warriors than the PS2 version. Great game. You've got Shenmue 2 in there as well, in addition to the amazing JSRF.

One thing I will say, is the 'hardware issues' with the 360 are blown entirely out of proportion by 14 year old keyboard warriors. You get a good warranty on the 360 in the event of any issues, and you have an obscene library of games you're missing out on. Oh, but their backwards compatability isn't great, so don't factor that into the mix :P
VSigma100: If I've learned anything on here it's that Andsy is a crazy bastard. LOL.

Here are the really good RPG's on the Original Xbox that I own. Sudeki, Gladius, and Jade Empire are the really excellent ones that nobody talks about.

Arx Fatalis
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II
Dungeons and Dragons Heroes
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Fable
Fable: The Lost Chapters
Gladius
Jade Empire
Justice League Heroes
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Phantasy Star Online Episode I
Pirates of the Caribbean
Star Wars: KOTOR
Star Wars: KOTOR II
Sudeki
The Bard's Tale
Wrath Unleashed
X-Men Legends
X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse

In my travels I've picked up some broken Xboxs here and there for refurbishment and they had usually disc read error or tray won't open. I've seen ONE with a red ring lol, and a couple that won't power on. They seem pretty well-built, I always see more PS2s than xboxs that break

All of these are awesome exclusives
Crazy Taxi 3
Conker Live & Reloaded - N64 sequel
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Jet Set Radio Future
Shenmue 2
KOTOR I & II
Fable Lost Chapters
ToeJam & Earl III - Genesis 3D sequel
Call of Cthulu
Stubbs the Zombie

If your not interested in a 360 at all then I would get an original Xbox for these games alone. I have one and it works great for it's purpose and goes back in the closet when I'm done :)

Also a note for Jet Set Radio Future: I would buy the 2 in one game that was packed in with Sega GT 2002 as it runs about $2. The standalone version is about $25. Most PnTs have the 2 in one version :)
