So yeah.. i watch alot of Movies, and i started really liking them. But i noticed something really annoying, and that is that 95% of the Movies are the same:

In the beginning something happens, something like he falls in love, he has a Dream, such stuff. They do everything, and realize their objective.
Everything gets screwed up by some'one/thing. They fix it, and Happy end.

^This is the storyline of nearly every single Movie.

Let's say.. Twilight (i hate that movie).
At the beginning Bella goes to a new school, and he encounters Edward. They fall in love, then something bad happens and they don't talk togheter anymore. They don't see each-other.
Edward saves her, and.. guess what. Happy End.

Another one.. let's just say love Movies in general.

Another one.. Avatar
In the beginning he encounters the Sky People, he gets strong and learns everything.. then mass destructions. Everyone's sad and such stuff. They counterattack, win, and again, guess what. Happy End.

I don't want to spoil to much movies, but you got the point. Just think of 20 Movies that come to your mind, and if you're not a Movie Fanatic probably 80%-90% of em will be like i told before.

I also noticed that nearly every Movie that completely doesn't follow that way, is a GREAT Movie. Often happens that they don't get famous though, because of the people being mad about how the Movie end and such stuff.

To me personally this is getting really annoying, especially because i can completely predict every movie.

I've seen a lot of great movies in my day. Which were some of the ones you've enjoyed? Were you just picking out popular movies? Check imdb for their top 250 list, a good 100 or so of them are very good movies.

I do get kind of annoyed with all the happy endings in movies. Like, during the climax of the movie, my heart is pounding and I'm scared for the character(s). But then I realize it's most likely going to end happy and it kind of ruins the moment for me.

For some reason, I got really tired almost immediately after I started watching March of the Penguins. Darn documentaries.

Someone once described that movie to be as basically being "Penguin Porn."

Yeah, that's what i'm talking about. I mainly mean that 90% of the famous movies are crappy and too predictable. And they actually are "un-original" as you said.

Anyways yeah, here are some movies i really enjoyed:

Déjà Vu (with Denzel Washington)
Forrest Gump
Perfume: Story of a Murderer (Great Great Movie. Can't reccomend it enough)

Yeah... there are probably 20 more but i'm kinda mind blocked right now. xD

There are literally thousands of great movies. TBH I don't exactly see the point of this post, I mean sure the medium is shamelessly crammed with shallow, cookie-cutter movies but that doesn't mean that there aren't good ones out there. And without the bad, how would the good be good? If you're basing a movie solely on how the plot turns out, I think you're missing the experience my friend. Do you want us to suggest good movies? We can.
But you're right, Twilight and Avatar blew IMO.

This Topic wasn't meant to say that there aren't good movies out there, not at all. I especially made it because i saw that nearly every movie follows the exact same storyline, and i wanted to tell and see if anyone else saw this problem. ;)

I thought it was a really good movie@_@ Rhett Butler was an awesome character, I thought.

Doctor Zhivago was a movie I found incredibly boring. I seen this when I was in high school. So, my opinion may change on the matter. However, when I did watch it, I thought it was a snorefest.

The main character in Gone with the wind made was the most annoying person I've ever seen. I'm sorry but I can't connect to a main character that acts like that.

And I have to point out I was like WTF when the little girl died, she fell into a fence when I was that young I got hurt a lot worse.

You have to start watching some classic movies. Look for citizen kane, easy rider, the magnificent seven, the godfather, the shawshank redemption, on the water front, raging bull, and schindlers list to name a few. Few of those follow the plot and have a happy ending the way you suggested. More recently there have been some good movies as well, like braveheart, life is beautiful, forrest gump as you said, and saving private ryan.

A Bittersweet Life
Lost In Translation
The Big Lebowski
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Just a few movies that I'd recommend. I don't think too many, if any of them, follow what you described. The first 3 on the list are probably my 3 favorite movies of all time.

You now have 4 and are tied for the lead.

That one had an ending that'll stick with you the rest of your life

I have seen hundreds of movies, having dabbled in film school years back and being a bit of a film buff since I was a teen, so I have seen both amazing and terrible movies. There are some movies that everyone loves but I can't stand, and there are some arty/foreign/classic movies that I enjoy but others would find boring. Everyone has their own taste.

Movies like Avatar and Titanic, both Cameron movies, are good from a technical aspect but a total snore when it comes to story and acting. I think both movies are terribly overrated despite being marvelous eye candy. But then there are movies like Crash, The Hurt Locker, 12 Angy Men, Sleuth, Kinsey and Glengary Glen Ross that are amazing but then to fly under most people's radar.

I'm happy to say Crash and 12 Angry Men did not fly under my radar. Back on topic however, has the OP been watching better movies and regained his faith that not all movies follow a similar plot?

Just because they have the same plot progress that doesn't necessarily mean they're bad. That's how most stories in this world works, whether it be a movie or a book.

Don't forget games as well. How many World War II shooters do we have? Everyone likes to complain about how all RPGs have the same storyline it seems too.

While I'm not a big movie person, the newest movie I've watched would probably be Transformers 2 - only because I was forced into that by my girlfriend at the time. They all have something to separate themselves, and even if the plot is similar to something else it can still be entertaining.
They've all got to have something unique about them, just watch a movie for what it is. Sure you can compare two movies, but if it has solid acting, a decent enough plot (even if overdone), etc. I would consider it a watchable, if not good movie.

Like as I said earlier, games which obviously we all play here are usually very similar to each other. There are over nine thousand RPGs with the same battle system, fps games that look and feel very similar, MMOs are always seemingly "Like WoW but...". Everything is going to be similar to something else, but it's not always a bad thing.

Not saying originality is dead or bad y any means. Just saying that it's more risky and these businesses only care about profits in the end.
