LINK: Episode 3

This week Pete, Gamester, and Johnny are joined by Ed "SplatterTrigger", who is most well known for his passion for the video game publishing company "Working Designs", and owns a complete library of every Working Designs title released before its closure in 2005. Working Designs was most well known for bringing over Japanese RPG's, strategy games, and top down shooters, from Japan to the United States. They are also well known because of their long time exclusive US publishing rights to the cult classic Lunar series. We hope you will walk away from this episode knowing more about this great little publisher, and why they are so missed within the video game world today.

I enjoyed the podcast. Good plug for XSeed. I really hope Ys Seven sells well. They need your guys' support. I would if I could@_@ I like the Q&A segment. It is really interesting what you said about Earthbound Pete. I have tried multiple times to sit down and play it, but I still can't enjoy it@_@ Hopefully, I can enjoy it some time down the road. Keep up the great work and have a good day!

Again great episode, I felt its length was just right but obviously I could just stop and come back to it on longer podcasts but its only an opinion.

And Pete wasn't really louder he was just a lot clearer and brighter which dominated the more muddy and compressed voices of the others. Should be great when Gamester and Johnny get their new mics :D

Hey guys,

Dean here again, just plowing through paperwork here at the office. I just finished listening to the latest episode. I gotta say, Episode 3 was another terrific installment to the “All Gen Gamers Podcast ” - and I’ll definitely be listening to it a couple more times before the week is over. Thanks once again for making a great day out of an otherwise boring 8 hours at the office.

I’ve always been a huge fan of JRPGs and Taito, and to listen to Ed (SplatterTrigger) giving an in-depth review and much-deserved tribute to Working Designs, was a real treat. Terrific guest choice in my opinion! Definitely on par with Spida1a, Lukemorse and Lotsofgames. And after listening to that segment on Lunar, I’ll definitely be picking up a copy this afternoon. Embarrassingly enough, I’ve never played any of the game’s installments, so I’m eager to check it out for myself. You guys gotta stop doing this! Seems every Wednesday afternoon, my wallet just gets lighter and lighter. I have rent to pay and a stomach to feed! In all seriousness though, I really appreciate you guys giving insight on these games and consoles. You are definitely playing a huge role in the additions to my collection.

Pete – just wanted to say that the mic is working great – definitely an improvement. Looking forward to hearing all of you with the upgrade.

In conclusion, I just wanted to say “Thanks” once again for all your hard work on this Podcast. I think I speak on behalf of all the listeners in saying that what you are doing is really appreciated, and we definitely enjoy what you all have put together for us. In my opinion, this podcast has become a keystone in taking us all one step closer to a community where anyone, regardless of age, experience, knowledge can come and enjoy all that the world of gaming has to offer. Keep up the amazing work guys!

Cheers,
Deaner

The new microphone makes a huge difference on Pete's end, can't wait to hear the quality with all 3 on the new mic's. 3 great episodes so far! I have a 45 minute to an hour drive to work and the same on the way back, so I'm loving the length (especially the first 2 episodes). Keep up the great work guys, I look forward to having an enjoyable drive to work listening to you all several times a month.

Once again, great episode, guys.

Over the years I've played a few Working Designs titles here and there. A friend of mine always loved their stuff, so I got to play Lunar, I once rented Alundra, stuff like that. A few years back I got my hands on Growlanser Generations and thought it was amazing. It's, to date, the only Working Designs title I have in my collection.

Again, incredibly informative and easy to listen to. Excellent stuff, and I await more!

Just got done with this episode, it was an excellent listen and I'm slowly getting closer to importing Lunar (Never released in Europe :<) after hearing so many good things about it from a lot of different sources. The microphone is working great Pete and it'll be nice to hear Johnny and Gamester with the higher quality mics.

Looking forward to episode 4. ^^

You know who made homebrew Halo for the 2600? Former vice president of game publishing at Microsoft, Ed Fries, the guy who supervised the developement of the original Halo. It's all so circular. Anyways, I don't think Microsoft would bother suing someone who makes a super super limited homebrew game (Halo 2600, I believe only had 100 copies at CGE), because it's a really small thing and wouldn't bother affecting the Halo series that they're selling, both of the games being so far removed from each other in terms of gameplay and design. It would just be too much trouble for them. And fun fact for all of us who weren't lucky enough to go to CGE.

Yah, it's free! :)

As for X-Seed, the other 2 Ys games are defintely coming out even if Ys 7 doesn't do as well as they expected (which would be sad; I preordered the expensive edition). The other 2 games have release dates, Ys I & II Chronicles being released January 18, 2011, and Ys Oath In Felghana being released November 2, 2010. Not that you shouldn't buy these games. Because they still need support so that X-Seed doesn't go under.

So suprised you're into emulation, HCG, but I totally agree with you. However, if someone takes the effort to rerelease an old game, and that person has the means to buy that version, I do think that person should buy the legal version.

BTW, another great episode, any chance you know when the next one will come up?
Can we please fix the quoting system? Pretty please?

I'm also a big fan of the Lunar series (except that awful DS game) so it was fun listening to other people talk about the series.

I know that some people are finicky about the length of episodes, but I don't think it's an issue. Personally, I like episodes to be as long as possible. That way I get to hear the most content. If I get bored of listening to the podcast because it's 2+ hours, I'll just turn it off and listen to the rest of it another day.

Thanks SplatterTrigger for all of the info on Working Designs. I have played a few of their releases in the past, but never took much notice of the Publisher at the time. Pete - Your new microphone is definitely an improvement.
