I listened to the episode earlier this week, and again today. Real good stuff. I found the conversations about wild picking real interesting, and was thoroughly impressed with the sheer volume of each collection that they were able to assemble with this method. Though I haven't had the kind of luck that they do, I always make a point to get to a retro shop, video store, thrift or pawn stores, etc when I can & see what I can find. My best acquisition was a TG16 with Keith Courage, Bonk, Samurai Ghost, and Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu for $20.00 at a garage sale in Iowa. Not a bad score. There's a real problem with wild picking video stores anymore, over the last decade they've become pretty much non-existent. When we are in an economy that has killed off Hollywood Video and brought Blockbuster to the brink; there's just no chance for the Ma & Pa video stores to thrive. The only places I still see these things are in the rural Midwest, but even there, they've become uncommon. It'll be interesting to see what new methods of retro farming will evolve over the next decade. |

Excellent as always! I don't think you can beat the feeling of finding something in the wild, compared to online for example. I can't really afford to get heavy into collecting at the moment, but the other day whilst looking for other things at a Yard Sale, I snagged a Dreamcast controller for 50 cents. ![]() MMO addiction has indeed become a big problem, affecting not only the player's life, but their family and friends lives too. I think the pull is a combination of the sneakily evil design and the community aspect. I have to admit when WoW launched I ended up playing it way too much. It was actually pretty easy for me to quit it around 9 months later. I still play MMOs in moderation to this day. |
